Its peculiar that after all the grand seikos i've tried to love. this one ended up in my collection. From the snowflake, mt. iwate, sbgm221, sbgw231 all were either too simple or too complicated. But this one achieved the balance i was looking for.
I have been eyeing this watch for a while now. It's exactly how you describe...a dressy casual watch and a casual dressy watch. I think for a guy like me, for whom spending $5k on a watch equates to a family heirloom, it's going to look great for my more dressy events. For a guy for whom $5k is an afternoon in Las Vegas, it's really nice casual watch. It's an incredibly versatile watch
Many mistake the spring drive to be a quartz movement compared by a mainspring. The magic is there is no battery here, all the power for the quartz oscillator, IC and Electromagnetic braking/regulation are all derived from the mainspring. So essentially instead of the escapement, you have the tri synchro regulator. Technology aside, GS never really appealed to me as I always found them outdated stylistically, but this one is a beauty, a classic case of less is more with the timeless white/silver dial and elegant case.
Great videography man and yeah what a difference a strap can make. I really find this way too cold on that black alligator but the minute you showed it on the tan leather, my interest grew. I don't really think think the Spring Drive is contentious at this point.I believe it has duly received mostly acclaim. I also agree with you that there is always something a bit "off" with all of their models, at least for my own taste. In this one, I find the shape of the case to look a bit too old fashioned and I prefer the ones they make with bolder angles. For once I enjoy the look of the power reserve on this model, though usually I hate it on the Snowflake for example. Also, yes, mostly the watches seem a bit too thick for me. I hope to own one at some point. Like you. I'm waiting for that "one" to hit me. I'm tempted by the 003 9F GMT, but obviously I fear the full quartz would turn me off soon, but I think as far as looks go, it is their best!
Couldn’t agree more. Obviously looks are up to the individual and reviews are just my own opinion, but I try and keep it honest good and bad and how I feel about the piece in general. I received a few DMs about the movement so it must be still a touchy issue lol 😂 thanks for watching mate
Very nice video of the GS SBGA293. I recently ordered the watch and am waiting for delivery. I also want to replace the existing strap. I really like the replacement strap shown. The colour and shape fits perfectly. Can you tell me the name of the manufacturer / reference and where can I order this strap? Many thanks in advance!
Thanks for watching and congrats on the purchase. Strap was a custom one off piece made by Martin Carswell here in Melbourne Australia instagram.com/carswell_leather?
You keep on hitting at this production level, it’ll just be a matter of time. You’ve set the new bar on production lighting, composition, motion, cinematography-as well as post production editing, music fx, not to mention excellent writing and voice talent. The only other production near you is Watchfinder & Co., who has developed his own style-and has been at it for years now. Keep up the brilliance! 👍👊
Every mechanical watch in the world, is regulated electronically. Either from your computer, your phone, or a different quartz watch. The main difference is for your mechanical watch, that regulation might be once a week or once a month. On a Spring Drive, they went through the hard work if putting a regulator inside your mechanical watch, and regulating it for you 8 times a second.
Your assessment of this beautiful watch failed. Great things take time to be appreciated. This model by far is the best ahead of snow and sky flake, and don't even mention colored dials. It's pure class. The holes by the way are so you can easily change straps.
@@jonreid6364 how so ? It’s my personal assessment. No one else’s. I said I appreciate Grand Seiko. This model didn’t do it for me. I’m also well aware of the holes use, but they do not belong on a dress watch… as I said in the review. They were used on military field watches. Doesn’t make sense and ruins the lines on a dress watch.

Glad you found the one 😉
I do love white dials! Looks like a winner and I love the smooth minute hand, spring drive is awesome! Great honest video review mate!
Watchbrocephus certainly is mesmerising that seconds hand ! Thanks mate
Superb video as always. Quality, sharpness and craftsmenship matches that of the watch. Well done brother !
Thanks so much buddy. Really appreciate you allowing me to borrow it for so long !
Awesome vid again Dale! Such a versatile piece!

Great review, my friend. Keep up the fantastic work! I'd say most GSs are dressy, casual watches 👍

Stunning work. Not my favourite GS but you make it look great.
Ben Hodges thanks for watching & I agree (not my fav GS) but glad I got to send time with one

Lol, it's ridiculous how good these videos look mate.
very kind appreciate that.
with regards to "the one" may I suggest the SBGW231
will check it out thanks
Most beautiful the SkyFlake SBGA407:)
lots of options!
That intro! Pure sex. It's my new favourite. Keep them coming. Big fan!
Haha thanks mate glad you liked it !
Which song?? Great video ❤️
its a licence from Epidemic Music
Nice watch, and nice review. More on the dressy side, IMHO.
Nolan Ketty thanks for watching and yes I agree
Very true about the winding feel and sound. Their 9S movements are much smoother.
spektrograf I would like to check one out one day with different movements

spektrograf thank you so much! That means a lot to be listed along side watchfinder !! Really appreciate your time to watch and comment 🙏🙏
When was this model launched?
Not sure
If you don't respect quartz, you are too snobby to own this watch. Go on and buy an IWC or Rolex or Patek. This watch is an engineering masterpiece
totally ! Love the Spring drive concept !
No battery + perfect sweep + high accuracy. What’s there not to like? I own the double logo version of this watch.
would this look good in a tuxedo?
Yes it would although technically no watch wearing a tux 😉

great info! And agree Spring Drive is awesome!
It is beautiful but very thick I find.
For God's sake why couldn't it be 39mm by 12mm?
haha yep
What's your wrist size ?
It's mentioned in all my videos unless I forgot here? just over 6.5inch (more like 6.75)
For me though it is ”the one”… :-)
That’s awesome!
It hurt my soul seeing the scratches on the case
haha yeah, lucky it wasn't me. But at least you know it gets worn !
The hand winding sound is indeed awful...🙉
It’s not the best but the tech inside is impressive
