This is just objectively true in regards to practice. It's the only way, as with most things in life. I've spent _so_ many hours on each move, just trying to hammer the movements into my clueless, previously sedentary muscle memory. I thought about giving up many times because it felt like I was making no progress at all and maybe I'm just not cut out for dancing. I'm so so glad I didn't! No shortcuts or ways around it. You're going to have to spend many hours of cringy awkward flailing before you even begin looking anything like Emylee here. Try not to get discouraged by comparing yourself to these very advanced dancers and just keep building that endurance. Remember that most of these really good shufflers online began just as uncoordinated as you. Finding songs that fill you with energy and make you naturally want to move was great advice that helped me a lot. Also, watching as many tutorials from all kinds of different people teaching a move you're having a difficult time with. RECORD. Then analyze and try again. I only realized that my left hand would do this weird goofy thing like it was trying to make a shadow duck or something? Not sexy. Not okay. I had no idea I was even doing it until I watched myself in horror. It took time but I was able to get rid of goofy duck hand syndrome because I recorded myself each and every time. The payoff is so satisfying. It's absolutely addictive. The first time you master a move you've been working on for so long and you look back and see the progress (because you've been recording every single session!) it just finally _clicks!_, like _Ohhhh shit, yup... that's it! Yay muscles! Good muscles! Lock it & don't you ever FUCKING forget!'_ Once it's locked in and you can just do it without thinking, and begin polishing it down even more? Oh shit, well now you're hooked. I get very upset if I can't practice now because I just enjoy it *so much.* I rolled my ankle a little bit which made it very very sore to dance on and it was the most upsetting few weeks. Trying to quell the urge to dance through the pain and just let my ankle heal. I am a very extremely lazy sloth person, so the fact that I now crave such an intensely physical activity is pretty great. If you put in the time and don't give up from frustration before achieving that first 'click' you will not need motivation to keep going. The dopamine rush will keep bringing you right back.
Fantastic post, recording yourself is a must when beginning. Even after a couple of days you can see the difference. I’m double jointed so I have loose ankles and hurt my right ankle on the first try, I don’t want to stop though 😖
I bought a full length mirror just to watch myself awkwardly shuffling 😂 it slowly getting better and I feel great even though it’s not enjoyable to watch myself dancing, but damn it sweats! Great workout anyway no matter what!

re: "I am a good shuffler, but I want to get even better." A grand master violin player was talking to a reporter about his practice routine. The reporter was amazed - "You're the best in the world, and you still practice?? Why??" The master replied - "I think I'm getting better!"
I've been dancing for fun since the mid 70's... discos, clubs parties etc. Dance is all about fun and joy so never let others rob you of either by worrying about what they might be thinking or saying....If you"re beaten in a comp...so what, it doesn't make you a bad person. The only important things to get good at when shuffling or any form of dance is let go of the inhibitions, let the music flow through you, SMILE and enjoy everything. That's my advice. Starting to sound like a Dad so Ii'll shut up lol. X
I definitely agree with the charleston. I tried other shuffling and cutting shapes moves first and my dexterity and muscle memory was lacking and i struggled. Learned the charelston and those other moves became much easier to pick up and stay consistent at higher speeds.
Thank you so much for this! I'm 36, stay at home mom & was looking for a new hobby to help boost my mood & motivate me to get healthier. I'm excited to start learning shuffling. It looks so much fun! I want to prove myself wrong that I'm not too old & out of shape to learn something new like this. Thanks again.
You're not to old to try ANYTHING as long as you take it slow, wear good shoes, stay hydrated, and have fun! Saw a 100 year old woman run in the Senior Olympics in Albuquerque and thing she started at 70! I'm in my 60's and plan on learning how to shuffle:) as I want to lose weight, stay in shape and have fun. Good luck and remember to have fun no matter how much time you spend on it.
I'm 51 and a grandma and I want to learn to shuffle. I go to raves with my oldest son (he's 34) and dancing is one of my all time fav activities (I'm autistic and I connect better with people through dancing than any other way, in general). I want to incorporate shuffle moves into my already established dance style (being an autist, it's very unique).
This is pretty interesting. I haven't been dancing for years and yesterday I came across one of your videos tutorial, more precisely that one about how to learn doing Shuffling. I loved it and I'll be practicing it for sure. Keep it up! A big fat thumb up. Greetings from Italy.
I started shuffling to your videos. You and Sven Otten have taught me how to shuffle and even though I'm still a beginner, you two made it so fun to learn that I find myself slightly shuffling to the music while I shop. Every piece of info you give here is great and has given me motivation :)
Deep house is the best ❤ .. Sorry about your injury and hope you'll be good soon .. Unfortunately many of the resources aren't available in my country plus the "join the channel" part .. But I keep trying to shuffle and I found that your videos are the best .. You're so cool .. Best wishes for you
Thank you! Great info and inspiration. I'm almost 60 and I'm damned determined to learn how to shuffle to the point where it becomes fun and second nature. Cheers.
@@sherbetlemons haha Yes, I'm secretly shuffling in my art studio and have become fairly good at running-man, slowly adding some steps, but damned if it isn't a sweaty endeavor! It IS fun, and that's the important part. Hope you try and stick with it, as you will laugh and get frustrated, but in the end you will love the effort when you have even a few great results.
First step that I’ve learned is basic running man, next is polly pockets. I’m about to gv up trying to do the polly pockets, where everything doesn’t seem right be it the cross, the twist & the speed until I found your video….thanks to you that I’m still continue shuffling today (Still new just 3 mths) ….I’m enjoying the shuffles and can’t wait to get into the moves everyday even though got to endure pains from the ankles & heels, managed to pick up lots of move but still working hard to train up the muscle memories.
This video right here is what I’ve been looking for! I found myself hitting a wall not knowing how to improve and push forward. I’ve been taking some courses by a shuffler named Kento baby, but even with the courses I felt no progress. This video however just reminded me that if I want to get better I gotta be determined to put in the work. I know this videos a bit older, but thank you nevertheless for the inspiration!!!!
Super helpful. I’m just getting started but I’ve always wanted to be good at this type of dancing. I love that it’s something I can practice anytime, anyplace. Excited to watch my progress! Thanks for the info and inspiration!
I was tearing it up to yura west and babrov..." Forget" really awesome song to move to. I live for this stuff ...it definitely makes a difference warming up to slower tempo....
I've been trying to learn the walking man move now like one week and your tutorial about it was the most helpful that I could find! Even though I didn't get it, but it was close, super close. Then last night I saw two girls shuffling in the corner of huge empty dance floor on the cruising ship that I went to with my colleagues. I ask if anyone one would come with me there to try to learn the shuffling with those girls, but no one was brave enough since the dance floor was, to be honest f***ing HUGE and of course completely empty😬 So I decided that I have nothing to loose and went all in there and after couple drinks and maybe half hour trying I got it! It was the the moment when I did 10:45 in my mind and closed the world out of it I got the beat and my feet just start to bounce around like I can't control them anymore 😅 After that we shuffled all night and everywhere and by everywhere I mean absolutely everywhere 😂 So my advice for all of you that are worried about the others that stare, try to close them out of your mind. For me it needed couple drinks to get into that flow, but do what ever suits you the best.
I caught a few of Sofia Sophia's Shuffle shorts. And thought that would be a fun routine to get back in shape to get back on the slopes for downhill. When your tutorial video for getting started shuffling was recommended I watched and listened to you and subscribed. It looks like a pretty good muscle toning program for your legs and core. I am determined to downhill ski again. Thank you!
Great answers. Thank you beautiful Emylee. I'm learning to sing the counting of steps and add percussive sounds like slapping and clapping and beat box. It takes me back to child hood when reciting limericks and skipping with a rope. Girls who could do this were very much admired. Being a lad, I had to content myself with being a spectator most of the time. Thank goodness young boys are now liberated from pretending to dislike being seen with girls and enjoying dancing.
