The SA Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) places great importance on providing driver training for members. Mahindra South Africa are great supporters, especially regarding off-road and 4x4 training days.
With the recent launch of the Dawn, Dusk and Storm special editions of the popular Pik-up models this provided an ideal opportunity.
The Western Cape session took place at the KlipBokKop facility in the Villiersdorp area. This was my first visit to the facility that provides all kinds of terrain and very testing conditions for 4x4 driving.
Our experience was limited to steep slopes on rocky terrain and then a longer session in the sand dunes. This was actually my first personal experience driving on heavy sand. As you can see in the video, I inevitably got stuck, but at least I wasn't the only one! All part of the learning curve and experience.
The special edition bakkies include upgraded off-road suspension and cutaway bumpers that increase off-road capability immensely. Add in more items like 18" off-road wheels and tyres as well. This was proven when driven by our skilled instructors Gerard and PG, nothing could stop them on the day.

I want to buy a Mahindra. I wanted to ask on the pikup can you put bigger tyres on and can you upgrade the suspension to increase the clearance. I have been to 12 upgrade centres and all of them say you cannot change the rins or tyres you cannot increase the tyres my 2mm you cannot upgrade the suspension. You have 210mm of clearance and you cannot upgrade it. You say you have upgraded the pikup 2.2 turbo have you increased the size of the tyres? Honestly be honest? Even Mahindra South Africa said if you change the tyres you loose the entire factory warranty and the tyre rubs against the vehicles body.

If I am wrong I will bring my new D/C 4x4 to you in Cape Town and I would like to see you increase the tyre size increase the clearance from 210mm I am already coming to Cape Town in a few months. If I am wrong I want to see and I will apologize online.

Mahindra is paying you for this video. The clearance cannot be increased otherwise all 12 upgrade centres lied to me.

Anyone buyer a Mahindra is buying it because they cannot afford a real off-road vehicle. Just like me and I wasted my money I would have been better much better getting a used anything at least I could have gone off-road.

Which specific model did you look at? This video specifically refers to the Special Edition models, the Storm/Dawn and Dusk that have numerous modifications done by Mahindra SA
