When I was in BMT in the ‘90s my section commander was what we nicknamed Fido Dido, a comical character in the ‘90s, because he looks like one. He appears to be a very mild, gentle, and meek guy, and was always seen with a novel in his hand. The first impression he gave us was that he is the most civil and most gentle sergeant in our platoon, but when it comes time to “tekan” us all hell breaks loose. He is the most sadistic sergeant in my platoon when it comes to punishments. Under him we went through hundreds if not a thousand push ups, sit ups, and jumping jacks a day. Everyday is a torture under him. Lol!
Well the US army is mainly composed of regular forces, meaning they choose to enter into service. Singapore army are comprised of people who have no choice. So obviously, the soldiers in the US and Singapore have very different mental modes.
My company in bmt!!! leopard!!! Although times were tough then but it was legit one of the most memorable times of my life and the amount of things I learn were soo much :) miss my bmt section soo much man . It really true, from boy to man !
Instructors at Tekong these days are very very different from those of my era in the late 80s. Commanders/instructors of mono-intake BMT at Tekong are usually nicer and kinder/more welfare toward their recruits (because they look at long term commanders and men relationship when they are back at their own units) but the training itself is more intense than the normal Tekong BMT companies.
Sigh, to test any command ability, throw a commander into an operational unit. BMTC is where recruits already have command potential and will naturally tend to be more obedient. Take a mono-intake where the men really are men that you have to work WITH and not just teach. Try knocking down a 2nd year soldier and see the effect.
@@ultimaxed8239 I was a PS my dear friend during my service. When you lead a 2nd year soldier in an operational unit they know the drills better than you do. And yes I have taken mono intakes.
To all the haters you are so ignorant, if you post childish comments comparing the us to SAF why don't you migrate there and join the army there. I don't believe BMT was easy! Most of the behind the scenes are not even shown. This clip is made in order to educated the public. I am an instructor myself and I don't shout at my trainees for nothing. I do punish them when it is appropriate. Ultimately its is all about mutual respect!
I could say the same about you. Have you done time in any NATO army to say those comparisons were illegitimate? If your own MINDEF has uploaded this video I'd tend to belief that it is "realistic". And if it is indeed realistic I'd say the training shown on the basis of the video is much more mellow than the US or any of the Commonwealth army.
I happen to live in a NATO country and I have spoken to actual NATO commanders. Singapore's army is high respected in the international community. In terms of mellowness, why don't you have a look at basic up by the Canadian army? It's also funny you ask if I have done any time in a NATO army because I am in the application process to join one. I am pretty sure I will be able to make an accurate comparison soon. Your comment was posted 3 months ago. Maybe the standards have changed but when I was in the SAF (10 years ago), life was not so easy! Take a look at this: th-cam.com/video/EqpGyN0j6lU/w-d-xo.html The SOC does not require the recruit to even be in SBO!
@TrollRoflcopter even if that was so, this is a documentary follow up, which of course would be requested by the viewers, even if this is an easy job not worthy to be glorified of, (something i personally disagree because without BMT instructers there wouldn't be an Army to start with!) At least people from other countries would know what Singapore is doing! It does no harm so why are you posting negative comments that do no good?
here's my concern , will i get bullied in NS . i often get bullied in school , not by everyone just some people . but there will always people who bully me . i'm in secondary 2 by the way
For information 1st battalion Singapore Infantry Regiment 1 SIR and 2 SIR have experience in Congo and Confrontation with Indonesian communist guerillas 1963 - 1966 all of them well trained by British army. Frontline in counter attack jungle warfare towards guerillas..
@Jones0920 Sorry to say but you sounded too naive to be ignored. True freedom comes with adequate faith in your country and that comes from the sense of secure and confidence from your country's defense force.
Singapore soldiers are professionals but lack combat experience thus the lack of intensity in training, the NCOs never saw combat, never been in a contact.
Why should I die for anyone? My life and limb belongs to me and no government can FORCE me to serve ANYONE. Neither can I expect anyone to die for me. If a society feels that it doesn't have enough soldiers, then it should raise an army by voluntary means based on demand and supply and pay soldiers professionally. That is why we pay tax. And what makes you think I am condemning the conscripts?
AndrewChan84 I really don’t understand why you people hate NS so much I don’t think you want what happen during the ww2 Japanese occupation and if we have a voluntary army the same thing as ww2 will happen because other countries will think we are weak and Attack us
Can we do field camp/crafts in a big air-con simulator room in the future? our toy soldiers are getting weaker now...anyway, SAF is 3rd Gen Army rite? So everything must be air con lah! No air con how to fight?
@thegoldenonethelomo they are just being resulted oriented..finish things fast and more productive, tts all...i am sure they have their tough times too
@fadmandrit Well, you give me a choice and Id rather handle the bmtc recruits any day. You may say they can take less but, they are much more willing. Whereas 2nd year soldiers, they KNOW the system wayy better than you when you enter the unit (case for 99% of my friends including myself) and they know what exactly you can and cannot do. They are numb to many things that would make 1st year soldiers/recruits behave. Oh and extras are NOT EASY to give if you have a pc/ps/csm that cares about men.

Exactly, it isn't free either way. That was because the previous guy said it like as though I implied it was free. You too, please read carefully, that comment was a REPLY. Filial piety IS voluntary for me because I care for my parents from my OWN heart, and they are my OWN parents. What an oxymoronic comparison. I don't have to die for my neighbors to love my own parents. Is opposing forced conscription and saluting escapees a disrespect servicemen? I didn't force you to protect me.
Singapore and Malaysia shouldn't squabble lah guys, we both have a closer relationship compared to other SEA countries, I respect Singapore's military for its technology and I respect Malaysia's military for its jungle warfare experience and also for it's commandos, both our countries depend each other, if one falls the other crumbles
@TrollRoflcopter These are real people not actors. Please be more empathetic. Do you think you'll feel good if you were him, trying his best in what he has been posted too and then reading a comment like that? i don't think so. And even if he was the worst, the position for a bmt instructer needs to be filled doesn't it? Use your brain please.
I'm Indonesian, I think Singaporean Army is great and powerful. All Indonesia really respect Singaporean army. Would you please help Indonesian people or help Indonesian army
Don't worry , you should have more respect and confidence on your INDONESIA TNI ARMY. In fact , we still need to learn and respect a lot from INDONESIA TNI.
Wah wah can talk to sergeant like that one ah 'yeah, i don't expect less'. what happened to 'YES SERGEANT. SORRY SERGEANT. YES SIR'? And since when the sergeant tell their men 'i'll be quite hard on you all' before they proceed?
The Organization should consider and recemmend 3SG (NS)Md Nabil to continue his service as an active duty personnel. We need this kind of people to be sign on as Regular.
nabil=most gentle instructor in ns history
lol but can tell he's strict even though he doesnt shout (on camera)
Sergeant portrayed in ah boys to men vs Reality
I wanna have him as my instructor
i know I'm kind of randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch newly released series online ?
@Musa Finnley lately I have been using Flixzone. Just google for it =)
3SG is king in tekong; everywhere else, the 3SG receives the most shit

i just have this 'awww' feeling after watching. to the recruits of the Orion Company, thank u for sharing yr experiences with us :)

WHO SO TIRED NEVER GIVE UP
Nabil seems like such an awesome guy!!
This BMT sergeants is much better than my secondary school
Wao, SGT Nabil seems to look very strict in training.
Reminds me of the the good old days. I was also recruit but I didn't expect to be a Instructor.
I love this show a lot!!!
miss my BMT life.. haha. Looking forward to the next episode
i'm doing my ns 3 years later and i actually look forward to it . i am turning 15 next year
Hans yhp so how like or not
Love the Epilogue!!
when does the next episode comes out?
nabil looks more mature and stern when he become a sergeant . when he was a recruit he looks cute and a bit child-looking

If you asked a 2nd year old soldier to "knock it down" it shows that you have failed to be to be a commander for that section or platoon.

is there any way that i can contact this guy nabil ?
Why is the mentor so nice?
I hope Singapore and Malaysia will have a closer relationship in the future because we are like family
when will be the next 1 uploading?
@Thevide0123 maybe that's because we don't intend to A) Go around picking a fight, B) fight other people's battles, C) invade for resources.
This is Leapord COY rite?
Hi @cyberpioneertv, when will the next episode be released?
when is ep 2 coming out??
Is there any education certs required other than those stated above?
Where is the Armor, They don't use?
what happened to the song at the start... that was my favourite part of the series... =.=
Hey is Nabil from Shuqun Pri?
@texas224 I agree with you but this is no war. This is recruit training where the commander should set the best example for the recruits to follow.
Indonesian here, i like that camo, perfectly blend into the environment and tropical jungle.
can u give us their facebooks ?
can someone tell me if this is this a bunch of kids or actually the Singaporean army?

Just curious, since sgt Nabil is an infantry specialist, why is he wearing a dark blue beret and not a green one?
+Cheng Jun The green beret was introduced to infantry units at a period after this documentary was filmed. I think sometime in 2011 too.
here's my concern , will i get bullied in NS . i often get bullied in school , not by everyone just some people . but there will always people who bully me . i'm in secondary 2 by the way

is it mandatory for all Singaporean?
is it applied for those who are permanent resident? What's the minimum age to join full-time National Service?
@cyberpioneertv wait so we have no way of really knowing whether what he says in the video is not a practiced thing but real?
