Sad how covid robbed the experiences of these soldiers. The 24km march from the ferry terminal to the floating platform was pinnacle BMT. Walking through ECP with civilians watching on and cheering, such memory will never be forgotten. Thankful to have been able to experience that.
yeah honestly best part about BMT was that march, if I'm not wrong, they already started doing Tekong 24km march even before covid, and this was like 4 or 5 years ago since I ORD
So like, you get to march on a flat road for the whole 24km?
@@nictheperson6709 not entirely flat, but the view and atmosphere is on a different level. Having experienced route march up to 16km in Tekong, i can safely say that the elevation is almost similar. Soldiers can then undergo route marches on various terrains when they enter command school!

Im from 03/21 batch, we only did 16km (can’t remember the reason why) and it was all in tekong… i wish i had it from SFT to the floating platform hahah
The 24km route march on Mainland Singapore and graduating on the Marina Bay Floating Platform was such an experience. Glad I had the opportunity.

This is very wholesome. After this season of ESS, Mindef can only do right by making a special sequel to some of the select individuals they portrayed in their respective vocations.

I was part of the 2nd batch that did the 24km route march on the mainland. Didn't know about the significance of the Changi to marina bay march until I came across a mention in the SAF50 ebook...
BMT is the best time to enjoy during Ns days, after POP everyone will be posted to other units which have more responsibilities

I had a BMT mate named LT Ng. Every sergeant like to call him LTA Ng, very stressful for a recuit...LOL
Bmt is an orientation camp. I rem bmt was the first and last time i used basha tent for outfield.
Really hate the push up machine in bedok camp. I train so hard intend to get silver. Then the push up machine no count me like wth..in the end only get pass with incentive.

Actually, both REC Issac and REC Nabil went to SCS and are ironically both posted to Tekong Island and training the new recruits as 3SGs.

We had GID outbreak so we were asked to do the same thing, bring our beds down to Basketball court to sun it. Once all our beds are down and in position, CAT 1, bring everything back up. Once all beds back up in bunk, CAT 1 clear, bring back down. Then CAT 1 again...

I kena standby battalion before, RSM made all of us, including our commanders, CSM and PS to standby bed literally in the parade square. But that time safety rules a bit lax, we literally throw down the bed from the top floor corridor.

Judging by the way they were treated from what we see many of them would have had a rude awakening in command school. Not all cadets are built equal, and that comes from BMT.
Doing route march in Tekong was the worst. Wished renovations of floating platform was done, the experience would've been much more surreal.
I was in the last batch of recruits that did the 24km at Tekong way back in 2009. That was a tough one. Lots of potholes that you could easily roll your ankle. Also our commanders didn't tell us how much we had left and there was no Singapore flyer to indicate how close we were. Nevertheless those were good times. Kinda miss NS sometimes.
@@saint474747 Wow, I did the route march during 2018 when floating platform was undergoing renovations, so I know how you felt. Me too actually, 4 years has past, and I kinda miss BMT, no worries of the future to think about, just having coffee time with bunkmates.
did 24km in Tekong when I was serving as a recruit in 2005. well, its an experience hahaha albeit potholes and uneven grounds, we were relatively safe.

In my time we had to pass a minimum of 2 of the following requirements:
1. Pass IPPT
2. Get a decent score for live firing
3. Complete field camp
If someone didn’t, then chances are he got recycled into a different batch. But I didn’t hear of anyone failing/redoing BMT in my company. I think it was purely for shock value to get the recruits motivated. Hopefully I somewhat answered your question.

16km graduation route march is ok i guess, due to covid and stuff. understandable. not like a batch i know who end up doing 12km only. 50% discount.hahaha

I know people who got 100% discount, just aircon bus ride all the way to Floating Platform from SFT.

Why does Jasnam need IPPT to graduate? Isnt it usually 2 out of 3 between (BTP pass, Field Camp and IPPT), he got marksman for BTP, so means unless he did not complete Field Camp for some reason but wasnt shown.
Because if he did complete Field Camp, then he wouldnt even need IPPT Pass to graduate. If IPPT Pass alone is a veto factor, so many RECs wont be able to POP man

Its an "open secret" about 2/3 to POP. But you imagine if this was well known and wasnt enforced. Liddat all the REC just aim for pass IPPT and shoot well.

30+ pushups and sit ups sounds easy, but its harder then you think
Different for everyone but most people in combat unit should be able to achieve that easily
I do 50 pushup and situps everyday. Young people are getting softer by the generation!
Try adding Board Jump, Pull-up and Shuttle run

Even my fat ass at 34 can pass this kind of Keng IPPT. I couldn’t do a pull up to save my life. I wish I was enlisting in the current decade haha.
