that's what I do with every new fighting game I try. it's the fastest way to learn your character's moves and BnBs. But you're totally right, I go into matches and have zero fundamentals, life is pain
@@BronzeAgePepper I wish more developers emphasized to new players combo trials are there to learn how to look cool while maxing damage, and to only invest time into trials after they've at least reached an intermediate level playing real matches.

@@r15835 Combo trials also help to learn how to combo from certain moves, what can be cancelled into what, etc.
They tend to go from basic to super flashy hard shit quickly, specially in SSFIV and KoF XIII, but at a beginner level the first combo trials for each character are useful.
@@JorgeHighwind yes, you're right, but those are also called BnBs. What I'm referring to are the later combo trials that even pros disregard in real matches (sometimes the execution needed isn't worth the damage after scaling).
I wish developers categorized trials better, like calling them "good options for neutral," "the bnbs," "super bnbs," and the "lemme style on ya ass right quicks," instead of a sliding scale of difficulty with "beginner, intermediate, hard, etc." The sliding scale does nothing to highlight what makes characters good in setplay, instead coming off as a "you must be this sweaty to play people online," especially when most people in the FGC think telling new players to read wikis and do hours in training mode is proper advice (how you gonna give people homework just to play a game casually and expect them to stick with the scene?)
It would help new players, especially players brand new to fighting games, to know that the latter trials ARE NOT necessary to enjoy playing the game; that there are small trials that a person can use to increase their damage in a round, but they don't NEED to learn long ass expert combos to be able to play with vets (notice that I said "play" and not "sit in a corner blocking all round").
This is not king of fighters, this is king of arthritis.

You know what. Smash player, Street Fighter Player, KoF Player, Guilty Gear Player, etc. I'm always happy to watch the pros play different games. I totally understand when they decide to focus on one game competitively. But, it makes me smile when they use their skills in a new setting.

A lot of combos from KOF 2002 and KOF 2002 UM look very simple but are actually really hard, Kof XIII has longer combos but are more forgiving since there's always an easier version of the combo you're trying to do.

Been playing Tekken since DR, it's my first fighting game. Tekken combos never been got close to KOF even SF combos.

Watching someone play KOFXIII and realize how amazing it is (as well as being one of the best looking fighting games of all time) it's always enjoying and refreshing to see. Shame this game wasn't appreciated back when it originally release.

This poor guy. Kof is not a babys first fighting game, especially not coming from smash, but I think his experience with Terry in smash prepared him well enough. I love having to teach my friends what 1/4 and 1/2 circle means

I’ve played a ton of fighting games and I honestly think Smash is not easier to become advanced at than others. To pick up and play, yes, it’s easier, but to be really good you have to put just as much effort and time in as you would for your average “real” fighting game.

Execution in XIII is probably the hardest out of all the KOF series. Something about the timing is more crucial than other series.

Not really kof2k2um is way harder the timing and input is way more strict compare to 13. In 2k2um even activating max mode is a pain you need to be precise, I always got light kick to come out when activating max mode which will mess up the combo, this doesn't happen in 13.

Oh boy here we go
The Drive Cancel with auto-dash is amazing. I really struggle with the 2002 cancel mid-combo since it's so intrusive making you press a button combination+double forward before continuing the inputs. Guilty Gear is even worse, since the Roman Cancel makes you instantly neutral and you spend lots of tension if you don't know the specific timing of every move.

To be honest smash is harder kof just beats smash on combo difficulty for me is pretty boring even if is hard to do the combo you can't do comebacks like in smash or crazy plays that turn the table, in kof I watch different people used a character and I see the same, on smash most players use mains differently I think people calling smash not a real fighting game is big mistake, at the end of the day melee just drop evo after years of been THE GAME of evo

José Luis Muñoz R smash is a comeback game but I agree that this is definitely harder than smash, I hardly play smash and I’m still really good because it’s not that hard to learn, sure you have a lot of techniques in smash but they are not that hard to learn, like a play smash melee a decent amount and a lot of the techniques are really easy, it is overall just a easy game that focuses on comeback.

It's funny; from watching all your Smash play I always assumed you came from traditional 2D fighters since it seems a lot of Smash-only players struggle with command inputs. These trials are tough for anyone, though. I can really relate to that moment at 6:13.

Watching smash players tackle traditional 2d fighters is one of my favorite things. Doing xiii trials isn’t the first thing I’d suggest, but I would say that Kof is a great game for smash players. You use a lot of really fun aerial moves out of 4 different jumps and you have a roll.
