I think if they did Merrel like transition of this shoe to become a sky racer, it would be a very epic model. Making it with Matryx upper, slightly snugger. Creating a narrower and just 1.5mm higher heel cup for more hold. Keeping the Altra front, but using a Trail glove mid and rear foot dit would avoid forward slippage. Also a firmer but still flexible foam would be needed, like 1 layer ego max and one layer ego. Finally a mega grip litebase. I am kind of imagining it already how well it would handle techi terrain bombing down descents. You know that close up MTB video footage during the golden trail series ... I have done the GR20 in the Superiors and also ran a lot of short races in it including 5 to 10k events too. It is personally , one of the best shoes in the Altra line up. Also one of the first too after the LP.
i mean it's a minimalist...it does what it does, kinda moot to talk about it when most are higher stack and ........INferior 🤣 u'd need all models to be converted to low stack to then have a comparison, but then again i don't give 2 hoots about other brands so
@@lyrilljackson I would not say inferior. Every shoe has it's purpose. Minimalist racing shoe racing, plated high cushioned shoe for distance aerobic runs, General trainers for daily outings, hard core models for tough mountain adventures, ultra minimalist shoes for foot training and lifestyle...etc...A high cushioned shoe let's you run higher mileage while keeping your feet safe and aid with muscular fatigue. When outdoor adventures are your essence, more is better ! Shoe rotation is also key for longevity. I like altra, but run in all sort of shoes and take the benefits of all tech and no-tech.
The 5 was one of my favorite short distance non technical trail shoes ever. I miss Altra, I may get one of their shoes for the rotation.
