  • In this video, I have explained the three reasons why the transformer rating in KVA not in KW.
I will request you to watch the complete tutorial video of the Transformer rating but you can also jump to any topic by click on the following Time Stamps:
00:35 What are the Active, Reactive & Apparent Power in AC circuit.
00:58 Why we rated a transformer in KVA or MVA, not in KW
02:20 Type of losses occur in the transformer. 1) Core Loss & 2) Copper loss
04:22 Relation between VA, KVA & MVA units
05:50 why motor rated in KW but alternator & transformer rated in KVA
For the alternator and transformer, the power factor is not known as connected load type is unknown while designing a transformer. Transformer transmit electrical power from one circuit to another so it has to supply both active and reactive power which is apparent power and the unit of apparent power is VA (voltage Ampere) so the transformer rating in VA or KVA. In the video, I have explained why the transformer has to supply apparent power to an ac circuit.
In this video, I have shown the total losses of the transformer is depends on voltage and current so the losses of the transformer can be expressed in VA unit. So the transformer rated in VA or KVA.

Super explanation.......make a vedio on....active ,reactive ,apparent power....and it's work..on basic electrical ckt....what happens(active, reactive, apparent power) when R,RL,RLC ,load is connected to the basic ckt.....
