After watching your video, of this gentleman & his '66,I have a new hero! In the early '80's,I lived about 30 minutes west of Kalamazoo. I was fortunate to own a '66 390 4 speed Fairlane. Also as I've mentioned before, a '67 Fairlane factory drag car. It had the optional fiberglass lift off hood. Couldn't be licensed for the street. Thank you so much Evan, for introducing us to these amazing men & their great Ford/Mercury cars!❤

These are great cars. Love the 66-67 Fairlanes. It was a shame that more were not sold. This one brings back memories. Nice guy. 👍 A friend of mine still has his 68 GT 390, 4 speed, Mustang.

I had one also built the same way but with a 2x4 aluminum Medium Riser intake. Man that car spun to 7500 8 days a week and never got it hurt. I put cross bolted mains on 2 and 4. Manual Steering. I loved that car. Family and kids were first. I’m fortunate to have owned and built some of Fords best unsung heroes and that is a treasure that keeps on giving.

I bleed Ford Blue, and have always loved the '66-'67 Fairlanes. Almost scored a '67 with a 289 when I was about to get my license, but my Dad was a real miser when it came to money and thought he wanted too much for it. Something with a big block was out of the question because "they only get 10mpg" plus he knew I would be blazing the roads with it. Ended up with a '65 Mustang GT with the factory fog lights, factory dual exhausts and pony interior with the 225hp 289 4V. And I still blazed the roads with that lol. I paid $500 for it. Of course this was 1973 and I wanted a Mach 1, which I have now. Those were the good old days. The parking lot in high school had Fairlanes, GTO's, Chevelle SS's, 340 Dusters, Z28 Camaros, Mustangs, even a '69 AMX. The best era of American cars in my opinion.

Thanks for this! That one is a true survivor, gorgeous. I finally bought one of these, couldn't afford when i was young, but i absolutely love driving it, and can't take my eyes off it. The original 390 is gone and i now have 427 center oiler, with top loader, Burgundy color. The body lines on 66 and 7s were sleek perfection!

One of my top dream cars. My parents had a 289 powered '67 when I was a kid in the 70's and early 80's, my mom daily drove my sister and me in it. Would love to have a big block one! This thing is absolutely beautiful! ❤

The 390 is such a beautiful engine. I love them. Really peppy when you put an aluminum intake on it and work the heads. The C6AE-R heads are so good even with the little valves and good valve job. The heads with the CJ valves and headers and a 750 3310 Holley, they are bat shit crazy. An 11:1 cr was heroic. I built a lot of 396 ci FEs with the 2x4 427 solid 425hp cam with headers and 2.11 intake 1.6 exhaust with headers and the 750 3310 downleg boosters. I have one on my 65 Galaxie and the 2 inch primary and 3.5 collector. On the GT/GTA Fairlane you would not believe it. Oiling system blueprints were mandatory. So sweet!

Nice! My dad had a 66 Fairlane convertible. Only had the 6 cyl with a 3 on the tree. Car was so light in the back, it had “cans” of steel shot located behind the rear wheel wells. Sold it to a guy who said he was going to drop a 427 in it.

Fords finest hour for the mid-size. Yes, the later models had the engines and horsepower but the simplicity light weight and spot on styling of 66-67 is beautiful and timeless.
Then there is THIS car(!) Best factory color inside and out, magnum 500s, perfect ride height.... bravo on the restoration, best overall '66 I've ever seen! Thank you sharing :)

i love the same things Evan, the stacked headlights, hardtop. FE power. another cool one is the 65 Comet too. my dad had a Ratty rusty 66 Fairlane in the early 70's i was in 1st grade ill never forget that car, it was a dark blue hardtop and my dad worked at a salvage yard on 8 mile in Detroit. he found a 427 side oiler in a scrap motor pile and transplanted in the ratty Fairlane in our driveway, no garage. lol he was a hardcore Ford Guy. he raced it at the old Detroit Dragway and actually won the class and a trophy a couple times, against a lot of much nicer looking race cars. lol. all these videos take me back to better days, Covid got my dad in 2021 unfortunately, but i used to show him your videos whenever you had a new one come out. thanks for doing what you and Abe do👍

Thanks Evan , I’m a FORD man born and raised . My Dad had a bunch of sweet cars in the late 50’s & 60’s . He had a ‘66 Fairlane in blue w/ a 289, when I was a new born (1st year) . I guess Dad & Mom would load me up in the back and cruise around to get me to fall asleep , worked like a charm Dad said . Later on when I was in my 30’s he said I guess that’s why you I love Fords so much Den, the V8 Ford purring you to sleep. Thanks to this gentleman’s super sweet ‘66. Not long after my Dad shared that w me, my uncle his younger brother told my brother and I about the only car our Dad drove with respect . Which we never heard about growing up , we heard about all the others except for his red on red ‘64 Galaxy 500xl w/ the big FE 427 medium riser dual 4 brl. Holley’s and a T10 Borg Warner 4 speed on the floor. Needless to say we where kind of shocked to hear this because of Dad’s street & drag racing history . Dad said later well I never took that one to the strip so … . I still laugh about that. Thanks again Evan . ❤all you do for us. God’s speed🙏🏻

I bought a brand new 1967 Fairlane hi-po 390 it came with the chrome dress-up on the engine. Burnt amber paint with black vinyl top, it also had the same heads as the 428 cobra-jet, it had a Holley 735 cfm carburetor hypo C6 and 325 rear gears. It had heavy duty suspension. It also had the tac on the top of the dash from the factory, and Kelsey-Hayes disk brakes on the front All that was ordered from the factory not add ons. I raced it for 9 years and only blew the transmission once and destroyed a torque converter once at 7,000 rpm. It could run mid 13s at 105 on a good run. Never ran any major events because of being just a poor old boy trying to raise a family.

390 GT "S" intake was 74 lbs and the Police Interceptor 27 lbs....
The S intake makes the lowest HP of all iron intakes, but the best low end torque.
See Jay Brown's book, "The Great FE Intake Comparo" ....
The 390 GT iron exhaust manifolds were the worst factor exhausts of all.

And to think as elementary school kids in the mid 70s, my friends and I would use their dad's beat up '67 GTA(289 engine) as a launching/landing pad on our bikes. The car was parked in their back yard for a few years. It was finally put out of it's misery by the local wrecking yard in '78'-'79 or so...😒

That silver '70 Sportsroof in the photos! Not what I'd do, stripe-wise, but I wouldn't change it either. They nailed those colors down perfectly!
I was kind of surprised at the softer shifts of this C6! I've always liked these '66-'67 Fairlanes a lot, and I refer to them as "Joe Friday cars."
Dayton Ohio? That's where I grew up, so I might well have seen this car in person! I'll be in Florida next week, so maybe I'll see it there!

My 1966 Fairlane GT 390 (S-code) convertible, wide ratio 4-speed (code-5) came with a D-code 3.25:1 Locking differential. Mine was built in June 21, 1966.
I was under the impression that all GT/GTA's came with 3.25 locking gears, but I have seen at least one with 3.00:1 gears (Air Conditioning). Almost all I have seen were open diff 3.25:1
