Mama's Family is one of the most underestimated shows from the 80's. It was pure, sweet and innocent humor, something sorely lacking in other TV shows today.
It's rerun everyday on MeTv channel if you get that station. I watch it everyday. I just finished watching it... MeTv the Me part stand for Memorable Entertainment
Oh my gosh! You've actually been to Mama's House! I love that show! Did you know that all the characters that played Mama's Family with the exception of Bubba, Bud, and Sonia, were older than Vicky Lawrence? I'm glad "Mama" still comes on every night on MeTV!
The show actually ran from 1982-1990. In 1986 they had some cast changes. Mama's nephew moves into the house, Betty White and Rue Mclanahan left the show, and they added a wacky neighbor named Iola Lucille Boylen played by Beverly Archer. Mama's Family info on IMDB www.imdb.com/title/tt0085050/?ref_=nv_sr_1
+matmroy It was on from 1983-1984 on NBC and then was cancelled due to low ratings. It was filmed from 1982-1984, but not in 1985. It was brought back in 1986 into syndication, where it ran until 1990, with much better ratings then in first run. The interior of the house was made smaller in 1986, Buzz and Sonja left, without being given a reason as to why, Fran died and Bubba who was only mentioned once on The Carol Burnett Show "Family Sketches", suddenly moved in, Betty White came back as Ellen for one episode and Iola who had never been mentioned before, suddenly lived across the street her whole life and became Mama's close friend. From '82-84, Mama took a lot more from Vint and Naomi, who were mean to her compared to how they were in the 86-90 episodes, when Vint suddenly became dumb and Naomi wasn't really mean to Mama anymore, who no longer took any drama from her family. I guess the writers thought those changes would make the show better and they were right.
+TEDDINGTON TELEVISION That's not true about Bubba, he is mentioned several times on The Carol Burnett Show, they even do a whole sketch with Maggie Smith as his school teacher.
This is the 2nd house used for the show - the first house had a "bay" style window - thus the set had a "bay" style window. When the series went into syndication the openings were changed to use this house.
Mama's family actually ran for 8 seasons. Two season on NBC, when it was then recast and taken into syndication where it ran for six seasons. 130 episodes in total. (This does not include the skits that originated the characters on the Carol Burnett show). A very funny show!
I watched mama’s family when it was aired and I still watch it today especially on Logo tv they play somewhere near 10 episodes in a row.....it was always one of my favorite...
yeah this guy is not very intelligent or he is very lazy in his research. I'm not a superfan or anyhting but I've seen every episode several times growing up it was one of my favorites
Adam, thanks so much for locating the Mama's Family house!! That show has always had a special place in my heart, ever since i was very little. Also, i cannot believe that the Halloween filming locations are right next door to it!! How awesome is that???
I record Mama's family and three's company on my dvr. They were my all time favorite in the 80s..and now. I love going back in time. Thanks for sharing
I'd like to see Michael Myers coming from behind the hedge down the sidewalk as Mama is coming out to pick up the paper! I'm sure Mama would whack Michael and set him straight!
Very Rarely does my mind get blown, on TH-cam but you did it Adam, when you spun and showed that hedge, for Halloween, I almost dropped my phone, well done, love that stuff sir. Love Mamas Family too!
hey Adam this is the reason why I started following you a few years back. Im the guy who went to Miconopy, and took photos of the Doc Hollywood filming locations, personal favorite movie of mine, well anything Michael J Fox. Please do as much as you can of TV and Film locations as possible. Thanks.
Gosh I loved Mama's Family! This is so cool! This show and Roseanne are my all time favs for the 80's-90's! I don't know why... Their humor just gets me! Thanks for sharing!!
The TV movie was called Eunice, the name of mama's daughter and it aired in 1982. This video made my day Adam! Mama's family is one of my favorite TV shows. The 1978 Halloween is my favorite movie. I never would have guessed they were connected in any way.
It's the end of June 2021 and I'm on a MAma's family / carol burnett binge at the moment and And I found this gem in the middle of it.. Definitely miss this channel but currently still watching you almost every day
I'm a 80's baby, but I loved them all Carol Burnett and crew, Mama's Family and crew, Maude, All in The Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Threes Company, Sanford and Son.... you name it, I loved it as a child even though it was syndicated ❤️
How awesome!! I always thought it was a real Southern house, guess it still technically is just South Western ;)You're so lucky to live by all these historic settings!!
Another great video. I bet a lot of people would love to see the old Mash set. I used to go there in the 90's, and it looks like it did in the show minus the tents.
We love tv shows & movies from the 80's too. I'm a big fan of Mama's Family sketch from The Carol Burnett Show. The sketches that led to the television show "Eunice" and finally the television series of 130 episodes that we love and cherish to this very day.
That's awesome! I want to go now :) I remember seeing a movie called Eunice (1982) with Vicky Lawrence and Carol Burnett as Mama and Eunice. I used to watch this show all the time after school LOL
Wow, how cool is this! A Twofer! I love Mama's Family and seeing the house is cool... the hedge was extra cool, though, I could see it in the movie as you were talking about it. :)
Mama's Family ran originally for two seasons then went away, but then they revamped the cast and brought it back for 4 more seasons. They ditched buzz and sonia and added Bubba, then got rid of Aunt Fran and Hellen (Because Ru McClanahan one Betty White went on to do Golden Girls). Just to update. Love that you found the house.
But Carol Burnette was seldom on Momma's family, it was Vicent and Naomi living with Momma and Iola next door. And sometimes various other characters/family members. Naomi was so funny cause she acted so slutty and drove Momma crazy.
Lots of interesting facts about the show that I didn't know about. One of my faves growing up. And I liked the Halloween fact in there too. I cracked up when you said imagine Mama coming around the hedge. Lol
Yep it was on NBC from 1983-1985, then in first-run syndication from 1986-1990. I grew up watching the re-runs on TBS through the '90's and absolutely love it! I have seen every episode probably at least 5 times but they still make me laugh and now I am glad to have all 6 Seasons on DVD. I have tickets to see Vicki's Two-Women show in May and I can't wait! I wish they still made shows like this, good clean fun!
It ran on NBC for 35 episodes over 2 seasons from 1983-1984. It then ran in first-run syndication for 95 episodes over 4 seasons from 1986-1990. This makes for a total of 130 episodes.
In your van dwellings video I noticed a "Falling Down" DVD. One of my all time faves, and I don't believe anyone has done it...Would love to see it someday.
+adamthewoo I heading Saturday to burkittsvile md to film some areas where they filmed the Blair Witch movie. it's a close drive for where I live. wish me luck.
Adam, the show was called EUNICE which was Carol's character. She was Mama's ungrateful daughter and it was a funny show but thank God it spawned the Mama show
no the show was called the family, the movie was a 2 hour movie on tv called Eunice, the night of the showing is when they asked Vickie to do a show and call it mamas family , on Eunice mama dies in the end... watch it its really good. I have it in my play lists...
Mama's Family is one of the most underestimated shows from the 80's. It was pure, sweet and innocent humor, something sorely lacking in other TV shows today.

It's your dime, spill it!
Hahaha! Yes! That was the outgoing message that Mama recorded for her answering machine!! :)

Tom Atkinson right
It ran for six total seasons.
6 seasons. 83, 83-84, 86-87, 87-88, 88-89, and 89-90. There were no seasons for 84-85, and 85-86 due to the cancellation
