Fun fact: you can softlock yourself in the Portal section of The Stanley Parable. The narrator mocks you if you do.
This can only be done in the original Stanley Parable though since Ultra Deluxe’s version of that ending has a Rocket League section in place of the Portal section

@@catalyst539 The Portal softlock is only in the 2013 version. The original mod (2011) had a Half Life 2 section instead.

Another Fun Fact: If you are careful with your portal placements you can softlock the final cutscene. You can get in to the cake room and place the companion cube on the cake, and then with careful moves you can portal back to the level and beat GLaDOS. When the cutscene plays, the cube is on the cake, and when the claw comes down it gets stuck on the cube.
The game is programmed not to run credits unless the claw can put the candle out, which it can't.

fun softlock fact: you can softlock yourself by getting any of glados' cores outside of the room, because the game gets rid of anything outside of the fight to avoid lag.
What happens if you softlock there though?

There is a "softlock" on the level where you get the orange portal gun, where you get into that room with the energy pellet and use both portals in it, but GLaDOS will get rid of the door and play a message.

Actually it was originally introduced into the escape sequence without the filters, then added to that room as the soft lock prevention dialogue, then when the escape sequence dialogue got filters they forgot that it was also used in that room

Hell yeah, I love how it’s radio silence on TH-cam then 3 or 4 videos in quick succession
It has been 2 videos in about a week. More vids would be great, but we'll see. The 3rd and 4th vids were March and February though. No disrespect meant. Love Smant and I've been enjoying his vods channel immensely!
The fact that smant does the hardest of skips on his first playthrough shows how much of a god gamer he is

Normally I would say something like "I think you shouldn't play so different from the intended experience in a first play through"
However this is the intended way, one of the greatest things valve did with this game is making it really really open and personalizable, like this game is not about doing this is puzzle this way, is about doing this puzzle, skip it, soft lock it, everything is part of the game, the idea is not solving the game is about thinking with portals

I love how there are so many lines for getting softlocked, and in that one room, the door just explodes! Like, GLaDOS has had enough of your shenanigans.
i am known as the evil robot cleaner at work. i found a 10 hour loop of the radio and listened to it the whole day at work, and my coworker checked my phone for something and was like "yo dude... did you really listen to 7 hours of the portal radio? just like, on loop. not even an extended remix?..." and i was like "yeah of course, it's a banger" and he just looked at me like i told him i genuinely enjoyed listening to a non stop 100 hour nyan cat loop
that is a bit much, banger though it may be. lol

A portion of people actually liked Portal better than Portal 2. Some people recommend skipping it and going straight to 2 but the beginning is the correct place to start.
I think you mean *some* people, some people prefer the second, some the first.
I played them for the first time relatively recently and I prefer the first game. The more simplistic story allows the gameplay to shine
I like 2 more visually but 1 is always fun to replay!
Portal 1 feels like a tech demo compared to 2
Portal is only about 90 minutes from start to finish anyway, maybe around 2 hours if you go searching for the hidden radios in every level. I see no reason not to play it before Portal 2.

I'm pretty sure you can pop outside the game and then re-enter somewhere in Glados' room. probably wouldn't have been worth the time anyway, but if he felt like it i believe he could have taken the wrench to the end with some effort.
Or he'll do like I accidentally did once and fall off of the map, proceeding to Chell literally falling into infinity. Like, it was making the wooshing air sound as i looked up and saw the map getting smaller and smaller until it was gone. I left the game running for a couple hours and came back to it and the wooshing air was still happening so she was just falling forever in cyberspace.

Hearing GLaDOS panic speed through lines during chamber 19 was funny to me for some reason.
New favorite Portal lets play. Trying to softlock and skip in every chamber on your first playthrough feels true to the game, especially since you'd already played 2

15:38 I actually ended up doing that softlock on my first playthrough. It's been my go-to method for clearing that chamber for the other times I've played the game, and I probably don't know how to do it the right way :v At least I think it was that one, it might've been a different door that I locked myself in but you managed to skip completely.
That aside, I definitely saw some creative ways to screw yourself over in this video, very well done.
