I'm being honest when I say I'm not a fan of opera but occasionally I'll hear something like this altogether beautiful performance and I enjoy it tremendously.
I had a moment at the National Portrait Gallery in front of Denyce's amazing portrait, which is currently around the corner from Michelle Obama's epic portrait. I began to play this song at full phone volume. Two guards immediately came to silence my phone. But the second guard asked, " Who is that singing?" I pointed to Denyce's painting. They were in shock. Soon more guards joined, and more patrons until I had to hold the phone high in the air for all to see. Said one guard who was in tears, "We've guarded that portrait for years and NEVER heard the voice. Wow." That's an important connection. And Denyce's voice changed them.
Despise what all the pro's said for her "bad performance" or her "out-of-tunes" (even only several time) comments. Personally, her voice so phenomenal and I like it so much!
I have this on my IPOD. It came on in the shuffle and it has now been playing over and over for the last 5 days. At least 52 times. It sends shivers down my spine and her runs, her control in the low range. Exquisite!!!!
Yes....the low start made this a masterpiece...omg....I’m assuming she started in baritone correct me if I’m wrong. This is what I all a mezzo soprano...damn! She’s good.
I know its difficult to sing this and it is live. But she takes breath where it isn`t very clever and interrupt the legato-line where the knowing audience doesn`t expect this. But of course: The deep register is phenomenal

I am a huge fan of earlier Denyce Graves !!!! This is bad !!!! And how can they get one of the most stunning looking women ever to look like a drag race reject ??? Watch must the winter come so soon, by Barber with her. Stunning. Voices age sadly. Some not so well. I love her though.

Sorry this is beyond bad! It’s often out of tune. Voice is very woofy without clarity. Headvoice is not half as good as it once was. Such detoriated voice...
From what conservatory did you receive your degree in Vocal Performance? I attended Oberlin Conservatory with this national treasure, her lower register is phenomenal.
Hmmm... I've heard her in concert and have several of her albums on my frequently selected playlists... this was not good. Sounds like she's put on weight. Even singers have bad days. And whoever did her makeup.. failed.
