Best things they did where get rid of wolfie boy & his momma & filmed it in black & white. I also thought that Pat Priest was a better Marilyn than Beverly Owen. Cheers.
In this initial "demonstration film" [designed to sell the show to the network], only the first half of the script was produced. When the series was sold as a weekly series, a complete episode was filmed.
A couple things: love the colorized version, Herman was a lot scarier looking, the actress portraying Herman's wife couldn't hold a candle to Yvonne Dicarlo and this episode actually DID air--only with Yvonne Dicarlo as Lily. OK, so it's more than a couple things. LOL
The show was filmed in black and white because CBS, the network that originally telecast it, was not carrying ANY color shows when it premiered in September 1964. By the time they began colorcasting about half of their prime-time schedule in the fall of 1965, "THE MUNSTERS" stayed in black and white.
partly out of spite-- RCA developed color for its televisions and of course RCA owned NBC, so many of NBC shows went to color early to provide color programming for RCA tv sets. CBS did not want to help RCA so many of their shows stayed in black and white for longer than they probably would have otherwise.
I agree, I see a a Part 3 offered, but I can't locate it either. Where the heck is it? As much as I dislike this version, I, too, would like to see the ENTIRE EPISODE!
To see the rest of the story, stream the episode "My Fair Munster" at the website Peacock TV. It's free. You have to pay to watch some shows at that website but not to watch "The Munsters."
Dr Frankenstein created Herman. He later left Germany and was adopted by the Munster family in England. He later inherited the title of Earl of Munster Hall.
Lilly was terrible eddie was even worst the characters were not at all polished yet and you can see the makeup was to clean they did not have that pazzaz yet. And I have to say it really was way better in black and white!
Right, Joan Marshall played Phoebe and Lily didn't exist yet, but yes Joan Marshall looked gorgeous as Phoebe. The only reason she didn't make the cut was because the producers felt she looked too much like Morticia from the Addams Family.
I really love the monsters loved the t.v. show. But when they did the couple of episodes that were the movis & the prime time 1's y did they make them kinda blue in their make up never understood that...
I personally found the original mother quite attractive and not bad, but the kid, was no Butch Patrick, and I guess when it comes down to it, she was no Yvonne De Carlo acting wise, as for Beverly Owen I always loved her and Pat Priest and couldn't tell them apart of course I happened to be only Three and four years old!!! Gary Bailey KingofDarkness 🧛🦇🐺⚰️🪦

"I thought he was gonna get a fan down there." You know Mr. Munster that is a good idea.
its nice to see these shows again thanks you tube...

This IS the original! It is the original un-aired pilot episode!
However... I do agree with you!
Butch Patrick was a perfect "Eddie"!
And Yvonne De Carlo was a perfect "Lily" (even tho the og name was phoebe)
@@drunkydrunk2351 why did they change her name?
@@1972cuda1 Lilies are traditional flowers to have at funerals.

Looks good in color

I think this was actually filmed in color. I don't see any of the usual shortcomings of colorized videos.

Part of it's charm.

@@Mackermanesq Perry Mason was still in b/w in 1966 with the exception of one episode , while most all other shows had gone to color.
don't care for this lily but loved grand pa and Herman I miss these old shows
Yah thinking same thing 🕶🇮🇪
Grandad must have been in China recently 😂 C.V.
Her name is Phoebe. Lilly was introduced in the actual show. This never aired.
Al Lewis was a human rights activist back in the day.
The final cast was perfect.
The "standard" for most 'half-hour' sitcoms back then was 26 minutes (including opening and closing credits), plus 3 minutes for commercials...
I LOVE MUNSTERS !!!!!!
I got on DVD, I the drag race episode, love potion episode, herman goes to school, baseball episode etc etc
How did they miss so badly with this pilot, then hit it out of the park with the real series?
This is why you make pilots,so you can work out the bugs. The unaired pilot of Big Bang Theory is nothing like that show either.
Where's part 3? Even though the first pilot sucks I would like to see the whole thing.
I agree, I see a a Part 3 offered, but I can't locate it either. Where the heck is it? As much as I dislike this version, I, too, would like to see the ENTIRE EPISODE!
happy was not happy when butch patrick got the part😁
I find these Films great cool and funny
You don't realise what colour faces they had when you see it all in black and white
I'd be interested in seeing the conclusion of the story.

The show was shot in B&W for prduction costs, but they spent $20,000 on the family car. Go figure.
That would only be the cost of 2 episodes. The car was also used for publicity and went on tour promoting the show.
It looks better in Black & White!
This is PT.1 Not PT.2 What are you'll doing?
The only one in right character was Grandpa.
And shortened to 15 min. other than the standard 24 as most shows were.
It sounds like grandpa,it's like Herman, but definitely not Lilly
Why didn't Grandpa create a Munster creation for Marilyn like he created Herman for Lily?
Dr Frankenstein created Herman. He later left Germany and was adopted by the Munster family in England. He later inherited the title of Earl of Munster Hall.
Fun fact: The guy playing Herman is only 3 years younger than the guy playing Grandpa.
wait a minute, the pilot was in color?!!!
Lily body is covered with more color
this isn't part two! What happened to part two ?
Someone else commented that they only filmed half the script. It was just a demonstration for the network.
@@EricJaffa Thanks 😊🙏
Huh sherri moon zombie ruined the original Munsters. I didn't know that.

As much as I love and admire Lily, Phoebe was a major babe!
Agreed.
She was major. And as Pauly Shore and Sean Astin would say in the movie "Encino Man".... "Maaaa... (pause)..... jor" Hahahaha
Al Lewis is the Anchor of this show!
The color threw me.
probably why this pilot was only 15 minutes long. To cover the extra cost of filming in color.
How is this part two? It’s the same as part one!
Lilly looked gorgeous
that is not Lily it is 'Phoebe'...Lily didn't exist yet
Right, Joan Marshall played Phoebe and Lily didn't exist yet, but yes Joan Marshall looked gorgeous as Phoebe. The only reason she didn't make the cut was because the producers felt she looked too much like Morticia from the Addams Family.
Ashame CBS and Universal couldn't put out the extra 10,000 per episode
Why? I like it in B and W.
😎still watching
maybe so, but she's a fox - yum!
I really love the monsters loved the t.v. show. But when they did the couple of episodes that were the movis & the prime time 1's y did they make them kinda blue in their make up never understood that...
It was to give them a complexion of a corpse. And their names are the Munsters , not monsters.
Grandpa reminds me of Raymond's dad. I don't like either character.
Joan was hotter lol but decarlo did a wonderful job
The original was better. I dislike this version of Eddie.
This was the original. The version that aired came later.
The Lily for this pilot was awful; completely wooden. Glad they changed Eddie, too.
why do you call her Lily? She's not Lily
