Don’t think I’ve watched a cemetery tour so intense that I held my breath so much. Knowing that mafia still operates in that area, I would be totally paranoid too. Stay safe, thanks for risking your safety to show us this beautiful but intimidating cemetery / luxury apartments for the dead.
It’s so odd that the cemetery doesn’t have all the buried listed. Find a Grave says there are 129 memorials and 17% are photographed. There is a lot more than that buried there. It’s so old.
Odd, beautifully kept in some areas and then utter decay and disrespect. Be safe Dan, keep your wits about you and be calm. Many people are just curious as to why you are filming and making sure you are not there to vandalize or break into the vaults. You aren't local, therefore you are suspicious.
C'est normal, les tombes des mafieux sont bien entretenues mais il y a aussi tous les autres habitants de Naples qui sont des gens "ordinaires", grosse différence financière.
One of the “glass front” tombs you passed up first is famous opera singer Luca Botta. The one next to him is for Fernando De Lucia who was also an opera singer who’s style of performance became obsolete in the opera world. He cut 400 records. You can listen to some of his work on TH-cam

Mafia: We only go after rival faction members; no women, no kids. Me: That's a damn lie, and everyone knows it. Especially when you grab someone who's NON-Mafia as a human shield in your crimes. 😒
I would be incredibly cautious and perhaps not go into anymore mafia cemeteries my friend. It's very very dangerous. That guy that came out of nowhere whistling wasn't by chance.
Dude !?! You need to hire a guide for a place like this. A local would not put you in jepordy the way you have done all by yourself. The disappeared tourist. Give it some thought. p.s. Was the guy wearing a jacket ??
Loving this group of vids for Poggioreale Cemetery! Wow so brave! I'd be quaking in my boots at the living not the dead🤣😐🏃♀ Nice touch at 9.00 (Magna Quies). I have a business called Magna Quies Tracing... I first located the phrase on a headstone in 2001 in my hometown. Was so cool to see that so bold on here!
This was so crazy! How did you have the nerve to even go in there? This scared the crap out of me for you, Dan. I mean there was no rhyme or reason to that whole place. Out of nowhere, you could have been shot with a silencer and no one would know! Geezzz!!! ♥️😳😢
Very interesting. Beautiful monuments. So different than the wide open cemeteries in the States here. I wouldn’t wander alone in there. Could be dangerous like in the old above ground vaults in Louisiana
Oh my goodness.. stay safe young man. As fascinating as your coverage is, showing us these often beautiful and fitting sacred sites, and ‘irony in itself.. isn’t worth you exploring putting your own life in danger!! 🙏🏻❤️
I just did some quick research on this area and I was floored to read that the mafia takes over and cleans out mausoleums to bury their bosses and family members in there instead. I have ancestors with the last name Taliaferra.....I keep looking for that name among the graves....I thought I might have seen it on one grave, but it went by too fast to be sure. This cemetery is fascinating. ❤
Well, this was interesting but intense. I half expected someone to jump out at any moment. Wow, you’re a brave man. It doesn’t get much riskier than this. I kind of enjoy the scary ones but not at the expense of someone’s safety. Be safe, but a great video nonetheless.
Would have liked to have seen more of the Mafia graves - and the stories behind them - but understand the locals being antsy about people with cameras. If you can, please get more, but personal safety has to be paramount.
I don't understand why some of the mausoleums are 2 stories high. Do the dead get interred on the high ground? Or are the entire family stacked over two levels? Or, is there someplace for relatives to mourn/pray above the crypt?
Very much enjoyed all 4 segments of this cemetary. Watched them in reverse order. Will there be a part 5 or more? I was looking for 2 ancestral family names but didn't see any. Stay safe out there, friend. ☮️
Some of those mausoleums are bigger than my house ! Seriously I was worried for you expecting you being surrounded by scary men any minute and there being no more Dead Good Walks !! 😊
Truly amazing! So ornate! Question: Between 7:20 and 7:30 there are white colored overhead lines draped between the mausoleums. What are those? Overhead power lines? Cameras (which may be why you felt you were constantly being watched)? Just asking, as I have never seen that before in a cemetery.
As Christine said below, it's for the lights in the columbarium and each grave is also fitted with a light, you'll see more of them in the other videos
@@christinewhitfeld7939 , thank you! Not unusual here for large mausoleums housing the remains of many families, but not something I've seen for private mausoleums. Bet it is beautiful at night!
I was surprised at how completely different it is from an old English cemetery. The architecture is really weird - instead of small chapels, small houses.
I kid you not but when I used to get RAI Italian television via a satellite (now not working!) I heard a discussion about Camorra style crime in the Naples area (Campania) where someone said that vandals were taking the wood from decaying graves in cemeteries in that area and then they were using the wood to fire up pizza ovens.Whether they said it gave a distinctive flavor to the pizza I didn't hear that said.
My husbands grandparents came from Naples Italy. They settled in Cincinnati Ohio. His grandfather was in the mafia and was killed and buried in St. Joseph Cemetery. Ironically, his stone has a lamb on the top. Those are usually used for children’s graves.
I like Italy, and I have a thing for wandering cemeteries, if you saw my other comment. I can wander without worry, even if there are others around. BUT, this cemetery was creepy. It came to mind when 'wandering' the back alleys 'with you', that it's the sort of place where you go to be forgotten. Once you are placed in your final home there, that's it: gone, forgotten.
Wow they are like houses! Could hide alsorts in there. Whats that film where someone was being chased through a place like this? Was it italian job? An old fim. Good vid Dan. Creepy; but good😂
