Harlan- in addition to the calcium supplement from zuchini folks should know the lower the ph (or higher the acidity) the quicker the snail's shells will degrade.
Another tip someone out there might appreciate is while they're growing, if you're moving them from tank to tank, make sure the water parameters are similar if you don't want them developing growth rings in their shells, which might take away from their beauty. I greatly prefer snails to algae eating fish as they are much more active and interesting. Algae eating fish are very cool, but snails are constantly moving and have fun quirks like taking dives off of the top of driftwood and plants to the bottom.
@GuppyDundee the same thing can be said about human beings and I assume they are going to keep it up 🤔 , because most people are capable of doing whatever they want and in some cases can get a bunch of money from the other people who are not necessarily interested in the Gold Coast !!! Good video is the most important thing I have to say and hopefully Harlan can get lucky and productive for the hobby. 💚💙
@@GuppyDundee I keep them, they are in most of my tanks as they are fantastic algae eaters and I enjoy watching them. And no I do not breed tilapia... I am well aware of the drain in fact there are multiple other drains in the same condition. I am hugely against releasing unwanted species back into the local waterways and have made videos about this problem before.
I bought 2 mystery snails from a local fish and plant shop, and they just happened to be male (yellow) and female (light blue). With everything I have in the tank, I've just let them breed, and the eggs hatch without interference. I've got a small hand full of babies of different sizes growing up. If you check my channel, I put up a video of my 20 gallon tank.
I got a mystery snail last month from a pet store because I had one before but it was smaller and got on its back and I didn’t find it in time :( so I was going to get a different kind but then I saw basically full grown mystery snails and I had to try again. This one has been doing great in my tank but I just noticed there were tiny weird spots on the glass the other day but when I looked tonight I just realized they’re snails I have no idea if they’re mystery snail babies or some other type that got into my tank through plants. On a side note your experiment was really cool and that was sooo many mystery snails haha
If you are doing a planted tank and get any plants from outdoor stores or other aquarists they are likely bladder snails, not babies. Mystery snails can't reproduce by themselves. Bladder snails are often viewed as pests since they spread so easily, they are like the animal version of duckweed, but they won't harm anything. They eat algae and dead plant matter, just like nerite snails.
@@HarlanFord Thanks man Also sorry if i'm being a pest but I am also curious as to where you buy you L046 Zebra plecos because I am interested in getting some in the near future but would like some advice from someone that has gotten some since there have been a lot of scams for them around lately
@@Andyroo-sy8rd yes definitely 👍 I have also been a victim of the scams so am very particular about sourcing. Advice would be to always buy in-person where possible. Otherwise there is a guy I trust in VIC I believe it’s called pet and aquarium wharehouse Maidstone

Hey Harlan!
this question isn't really related to the video but I was just wondering what size tank you use to breed your Bristlenose?
Heyy! No worries, I use a 2ft tank, bigger wouldn’t hurt. I have a video on it if you want to check it out.
