    I am so confused................why do "they" keep changing plant names ? I had a plant like yours but unfortunately lost all but one small pup. It is struggling but I didn't kill it over winter. Hope it fares better after I can move plants outdoors. I had another nice specimen over 20 years ago. I knew that one as Partridge Breast. Leaf color and markings pretty much the same but growth habit was very different. That plant was very compact and had a pyramid ship. Leaves were shorter at the top than at the bottom and it had spiral twist to it. That was a gorgeous specimen and wish I still had it. Have not been able to find replacements for either type in the last year but will keep looking.

      Awwww I hope your Aloe variegata pup recovers well for you William, its crazy how they keep changing the names of plants, I can't understand why they don't keep them as they are especially as a lot of the names are difficult to remember as it is haha, thanks so much William for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic new week XXXX

    How lovely, that this plant is with you for such a long time! I have mine since about 20 years too, almost 'killed' it twice... they get burned quite quickly and I think they do not like any heat at the roots either. I have mine in a clay pot now, it had no problem to stay in the heated (min. 3-5 C) tent over the winter 😊

    Good morning Lyn! I meant to ask you about repotting the fern leaf orchid cactus; do you treat it like you do other cacti & succulents after repotting it? I’m referring to leaving it a week before watering after repotting. Thanks Lyn!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good morning Carol :-D yes I keep the fern leaf cactus unwatered for a week after repotting, just to let the roots settle after repotting, I do lightly spray the top of the soil and the leaves after I have repotted as its an Epiphytic cactus, and after a week I water as normal, thanks so much Carol for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic new week XXXX

    Hello Ma'am, My Astrophytum Asterias deflated at the bottom and looks soft but not squishy from side, Is that normal?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, yes Astrophytum asterias can go a little bit shrivelled looking at their base, as long as the base is not soft or rotting this then this can be a normal appearance, but it could be god to remove the cactus from the pot just to check over the rot system in case their are any signs of insect pests like root mealy bugs that could be preventing the cactus from taking up water, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic new week XXXX

  • @brocktoon8
    @brocktoon8 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Is it OK if my aloe tips shrivel back? It always does it and I can't figure out a cause. I only water when it's dry, and it has no diseases. It's an aloe parvola. the tips get like, pinkish (!)/red and die back. Weird. It also has a pink scab on one of its arms. Just bizarre, never saw anything like it before. Keep it indoors in an east window. Any idea?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, yes aloe plants can often get tip die back on their leaves especially their lower leaves, if its happening to the new leaves from the top it can be due to the aloe not getting enough water or too much direct light, but if your aloe looks healthy in every other way then I wouldn't worry as its common for some aloes to have their leaves shrivel from the tips, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic new week XXXX
