    Everything you need to know about the older G920/G29 - • Logitech G920 / G29 Un...
    The Logitech G923 Trueforce Sim Racing Wheel was announced and launched in August of 2020 just in time for the the next gen Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles. Both this new wheel and the previous gen wheels will be supported on the new consoles. The G923 is of course also supported on PC. Here's my Unboxing & Detailed Review of the wheel and pedals
    The biggest change to this wheel is the new Trueforce Force Feedback system. This is stacked on top of the features from the last gen which has been considered one of the best entry-level wheels on the market for the Price.
    Trueforce allows simulation and audio engine data to be sent directly to the wheel for it to interpret and deliver to your hands. This means less canned effects and hopefully an easier integration for studios developing games with Trueforce SDK support.
    Logitech also added some hardware upgrades to support this extra information from the SDK. Upgraded Motor Drivers, a faster polling rate, upgraded faster microcontroller and finally new firmware wrap up the hardware changes.
    All of this comes together to deliver vibrotactile and kinesthetic FFB like engine notes, clunks from shifting and information about the car platform.
    A new feature to the wheel is a new Dual Clutch launching mode which helps with standing starts. The Xbox version of the wheel has been improved with an increased number of inputs (from 15 to 20) as well as the addition of LED RPM gauges as seen on the PlayStation version of the wheel.

      Some advice , we all start with a logitech wheel , but end up with thrusrmaster or fanatec , I kinda wish I got thrustmaster straight away , you will find that youll want a GT3 type wheel or the sparco wheel etc and the thrustmaster wheel price is great for adding wheels on a payday and Logitech is quite limited to some only only mods you can buy and fanatec is more for bragging rights unless your a pro sim driver ...but thrustmaster is about to release a full fledged f1 wheel with carbon fibre and LCD display! .its a great wheel (G920 to G923 ) either way mate 👍

    Great video, really informative thanks, im having issues with my g923 for PlayStation, it worked great then the 2pin plug got disconnected from the power pack whilst in use and I reconnected, the true force just disappeared, the life went out of the wheel if you will, I ended up sending it back and got a replacement wheel but the replacement wheel is exactly the same, I can’t figure out other than potential patches or software changes what could be causing it? Checked all in game menus there set to how they were, recalibrated wheel, 🤔 So now when driving in a streight line in GTsport for example there’s nothing, you only feel pull and play in the wheel when cornering and going over road edges or hitting a wall, all other feedback seems to have disappeared, ghub seems to be only applicable if your using wheel on pc and currently no pc, it’s got me stumped, any info you may have would be great to hear, thanks 👍 Keep up good work

You sold me on this wheel. Thanks!

      @BallisticTech  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you found the video helpful. Like you said the wheel has its flaws. Not much of an upgrade path or ecosystem. Pretty old gear FFB system.
      Trueforce is probably nowhere as good on this wheel as it is on the new Logitech DD. But this is a full wheel and pedals set for as low as like $350 but usually closer to $400.
      If you don't think the trueforce is worth it then there's still the less expensive g29/g920.
      But overall I think the wheel is more than good enough to have a lot of fun racing.

    • @BallisticTech
      @BallisticTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting. It's great to hear you found the video informative. Helping people make an informed buying decision is definitely my biggest goal.
      I unfortunately haven't used much Fanatec gear. Especially not for extended periods. I've reached out to both Thrustmaster and Fanatec and requested to review some of their products but as my channel is small and stock is limited I don't think it's too likely. But fingers crossed.
      As for Fanatec VS G923. The biggest bonus for Fanatec is the ecosystem IMO. It's of course higher quality gear and also more expensive. But it gives you multiple upgrade paths with 3/4 different wheel bases (CSL, Clubsport, DD1 and DD2) and a wide variety of wheel Rims. There's also the Universal Hub which let's you use a custom wheel rim and configure things yourself.
      If you're on PC you can use different brand pedals and shifters with a wheel like the G923. A lot of ppl say one of the most important upgrades is pedals as braking will help improve your lap time the most.
      Better or different force feedback can help maximize your potential but also diminished returns in terms of being faster. Immersion and comfort is important too.
      Price is definitely going to be one of the biggest factors. I think the least expensive Fanatec bundle for wheel & pedals is the CSL Elite PS4 Bundle which is $550-600 USD.
      So I think a good question to ask is do you intend to really delve deep into sim racing? Is it going to be a bit of a casual pass-time? Or a hobby you'll put a lot of hours into?
      Do you think you'll eventually want to upgrade past the G923 and end up with Fanatec gear anyways? Is it worth it to you to save a while longer or allocate more budget to be in a higher tier of gear that opens up the bigger ecosystem?
      For some people their budget is their budget. And saving more isn't an option.
      A common upgrade path from the Logitech wheels on PC seems to be: 1st Better pedals (Thrustmaster T-LCM, Fanatec CSL Elite LC, or Fanatec Clubsport V3), followed by upgrading the wheel base.
      Also thank you for you service!

      @@BallisticTech you do such a good job at communicating, if you worked for me, I would give you a 3 day pass. Ooorah!
      I've always been a PC racer. Started with a Red Momo Force, then a G25 that died right after the warranty expired. Switched to a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick for steering and the G25 pedals. The last game that worked for me with that configuration was NFS Shift 2. I had a blast running the EA sponsored Hot Lap Series for Shift and Shift 2.
      I'm looking to get back into racing as a hobby. From what I've seen, there is a marked difference between the FFB feel of the G923 and a Fanatec CS Elite belt drive. I wonder if the Fanatec pedals without a load cell are comparable to the G923 pedals with the progressive spring.

    • @TheBrennanSchafer
      @TheBrennanSchafer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had both. Buy Fanatec. It's seriously not even close and anybody who has used both will tell you that. The added strength and belt drive add a night and day difference. Yeah, it's more expensive but easily worth it. So much more immersive and easier to determine the limits of the tires as the strength can dynamically move as move up and down as you push more or less G's (not to mention this makes things like S turns so much more fun!). Logitech's strength is binary. It is either softly pulling in one direction or it's not. I can't overstate how much difference this adds to the experience. After using Fanatec wheels, I honestly don't think I'd even pay $100 for any of Logitech's wheels. I race for a couple hours each night and am addicted to iRacing. Had just a Logitech wheel at my brother's house for a bit and I couldn't even bring myself to play it was such an extreme step down. Ended up buying A CSW 2.5 for his house over the holidays and I'm back to playing every night again. If you have the means, step up to a wheel with at least 6nm of force (CSL Elite is probably the best value), you won't regret it.

      I've since used the Thrustmaster T300, Fanatec CSL Elite and VRS DFP.

      For god's sake do not pay $480 for the g923! I bought it and a Fanatec CSL Elite starter kit for about $100 more (was even the same price as the G923 during the Black Friday sale) to se which one I liked more. I could not believe how big of a difference there was! And that's not even taking into consideration how many more options for wheels, shifters, brakes etc. there is in the Fanatec eco-system. After using the Fanatec, I seriously don't think I'd even pay $100 for the G923 and I'd easily pay $800 for CSL Elite. That is how big of a difference there is between the wheels and brakes despite being somewhat similar in price. I am a Logitech fanboi for most things but their wheels that are a rip-off. If for some crazy reason you can't save up for a fanatec buy a cheap G29 and a buttkicker. The butt kicker will do the same thing as "true force" but much better. Actually, I just read your last part about wanting it for 5 years. Get a Fanatec. No question. You don't want to be stuck with a Logitech for 5 years.

I mean in your video you talk about how you can feel that the wheels have dirt in them after hitting the grable, but i cant feel any of that, i can only feel the vibration due to the motor, should i be concerned that the wheel is broken?

    • @BallisticTech

      I was able to feel more road and curb effects after turning the gain in ACC up much higher. Doing so does make the wheel much louder. You may also have different settings for the road effects and dampening.
      The version of the game I was playing on was quite a bit older. There's been multiple patches including FFB changes.
      Lastly FFB I'd VERY subjective. What feels great and clear to one person might feel terrible and barely noticeable to another.

    Are the brake pedals the same in terms of force need to press? I tried the G920 before and the brake was super hard to press down because of the rubber stopper in the pedal assembly. Tried the F1 2020 game and would press the brake and would barely stop. Just wondering how far down the brake pedal can be pressed.

    • @BallisticTech
      @BallisticTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I go into pretty good detail around 14:24. With any pedal you can calibrate it with drivers or in game so the farthest you're able to press down the pedal will equate to 100% braking.

I took off the little rubber from the brake pedal and my experience has changed for the better, no more knee pain, stable driving and more consistent with lap times. Even though ballistic tech does not recommend taking it off (but replacing with softer rubber), try it out... It is a game changer.

      English:
      Hello. I don't speak Italian so this is translated.
      My clutch pedal doesn't squeak. If it is loud enough that you can't deal with it maybe you can return it and get one that doesn't squeak.
      Sometimes products like these can be "broken in" and stuff like squeaks will go away. If you feel comfortable disassembling the pedals without voiding your warranty you can try to add some lubricant like lithium grease.
      The pedals are constructed just like the G29. So you can find a youtube video explaining how to disassemble and reassemble the G29 pedals.

    The G923 is nice but too expensive (375 € here on Amazon) to justify the improvements, it’s the same price as a T300 RS GT which is apparently superior in multiple ways especially the FFB (even if it has no Trueforce, but haven’t tried it I would guess a better FFB without Trueforce is better than a worse FFB with Trueforce), aside from reliability and feeling.

    • @BallisticTech
      @BallisticTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aiden-yx9ht that's a great attitude to have l. As a smaller content creator enhancement and interaction isn't just a metric like larger creators. It's extremely motivating.
      I got to use the TX for a bit. It's essentially the Xbox version of the 300.
      Just talking about the base. The TX is belt driven so it's smoother and has more overall torque. I think the torque isn't that impressive in terms of total strength. But it does provide more dynamic range.
      The G923 still has lower torque so if you start to turn up the min force and have the Trueforce on it just has less range to work with.
      That's said the trueforce can make up for that. Oddly enough the gear driven system provides the ability to give the engine notes and road effects and curbs. Like Logitech leaned into the noise and chatter ppl hate on their wheels about. And as I mentioned in the video you get the game integration and other benefits of Trueforce.
      I've heard guys like Barry from Sim Racing Garage note lower end belt driven wheels have difficulty reproducing kind of high frequency effects like curbs and such. It's hard for belt driven wheels in general. I imagine that's why TM added a transducer to the TGT to give some similar effects as what Trueforce provides.
      Using the TX, like the G29, I did note that I had gotten used to the engine notes and extra Trueforce. Are they necessary to drive and be fast? No. But very nice to have.
      I think the TX is also overall faster but maybe a bit slower in quick change of direction. I'm terrible at drifting but I tried a bit with both. The TX didn't have to be thrown as much as the G929. But I had a harder time changing direction smoothly with the TX.
      So it's a hard call for me. TX obviously has the benefit of a wider ecosystem and upgrade path. Interchangeable wheels, a better shifter. You can get DIY wheels working on them pretty easy. Their new load cell pedals seem nice and I think cam be used with it as well. So those are pretty big benefits for anyone that thinks they'll upgrade down the road. Especially on PC.
      So that's not definitive but I hope it provides some points to think about.

      As for your reply I think I will end up going with the G923, because I am not looking to upgrade to PC. I just want something I can have in my living room to play GT 7 on the PS5 when it comes out. Maybe once the nostalgia wears off (as I have not tried a wheel before) I could look at selling and upgrading down the line.
      At that point hopefully Logitech or TM will have come out with a new wheel that's an upgrade from this one having in mind TrueForce for the PS5. (Waiting for more games to utilize the DualSense controller.) I really think the DualSense's haptic feedback is going to change the industry.
      I appreciate the help,
      Take care.
