    This video shows how to replace the serpentine belt on a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L. With the right tools, anyone can do this. Note: if you buy the belt from an auto parts store, they usually have a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool that can be on loan for a refundable deposit. IOW: free!
    The following is a link to the belt that I used in this video:

    I put my belt on by the diagram but I noticed the smooth side touches the idler pulley too

      as long as it matches the diagram it should be ok

    Well u don't gotta go that far u can fish the belt around without taking anything apart LOL , just gotta fish the belt from the inside of the motor face on the tensioner first and then ur golden. This guy...

      This guy.....needed to have a good shot with his camera, or NOBODY would understand how to do this. The shortcuts are then determined by the viewer.

    Yo, Phil and I thought you were going to say a necessity was a PC tag! GOOD hop and if we can't be found handsome we ought to be found handy! Good old Red Green. Spring is on the way. Finches are turning yellow and the lillies are up 4 inches nd daffydills a good 8.
    So remain calm and God Bless Yall!

      Howdy, Lewie! This was my friend's van. We have a good time out in the shop. Yes... the weather is looking good. Just planted some garden seeds indoors yesterday. Nothing budding here yet, but soon will be. Stopped by the MO River boat ramp on the way home. The river is calling my name! Have a great rest of the week. GBU2!

    Just finished replacing the serpentine and tensioner on 2011 minivan but notice the belt moved one grove towards engine at the crank shaft pulley but when I realigned belt on the crankshaft the belt move away from the engine at the power steering pulley.

    At 3:17 on the video, you say 'only the tensioner with be on the smooth side of the belt' - I traced it over and over and it seems the idler also is on the smooth side of the belt.. Can you explain that to me.. Thank you..

      @PhilCrockett  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm.......well.... then I forgot to mention that. darn. As long as the belt follows the diagram.

      @PhilCrockett  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never have. however, if you do this, let me know how it worked out, Bryce.

    • @davidmoore8741
      @davidmoore8741 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      U can slide it off the idler first but only with the tensioner pulled back max. U can only put this belt on if u first slide it backwards between the face of the block and backside of the tensioner and feed the smooth side around it and then follow the belt routing diagram. I tried many ways. It's the only way it works.

    • @davidmoore8741
      @davidmoore8741 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Belt pops off the altanator first when u release tension

      The wrenchis on the tensioner pulley you can't take the belt off because the wrench is in the way

    Can you force on without tensioner?

    • @PhilCrockett
      @PhilCrockett  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope,..... but you may be able to use a ratchet that fits in the hole.

    • @GTSimkoh

      @@PhilCrockett all my ratchet heads were too fat to even get to the 1/2" hole so i had to force it. Hope I didn't do too much damage but it seemed like one of the pullys were supposed to have some play.

      Sorry to hear of your trouble! One of the hardest parts to this project, is trying to get a good camera shot in that small compartment. Take a picture of the diagram in my video. It really does help to refer to it when figuring out the layout. Let me know if you finally get it on.

      @@PhilCrockett what I don't get I have two different size belt part number with the last three digits 795 then I have another belt with the last 3 digits of 825 I'm just not getting it mine's a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE model with the 3.3 liter in it and it has flex fuel I called my local auto parts store Pep Boys I definitely don't want to pay almost $200 for the belt and labor they told me flex fuel would make a difference in the belt which would be 825 part number so I have both belts I don't know what the hell to do help help if it makes sense to you let me know please thank you

    • @charleskirkpatrick9098
      @charleskirkpatrick9098 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      2010 white Dodge Caravan that you was working on did it have flex fuel in it let me know your opinion if you think it matters when it comes to two different part numbers like I said Pep Boys told me it matters said the part number would be 825 with flex fuel I know it's driving me nuts hardly any sleep

    • @PhilCrockett
      @PhilCrockett  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was a friend's van. It did not have flex fuel. I always rely on the parts counter to give me the right parts. Unfortunately, I have to learn the hard way sometimes. Like you did, I'll buy multiples sometimes and have to figure it out. Just did a brake job recently where I bought 2 sets of brake pads, because I couldn't remember if the truck had duel pistons or single.

      On my 08 grand caravan (same setup) the diagram made sense, but couldn't couldn't figure out how to duplicate it at first. After a couple hours, I looped it back from the vibration dampner onto the tensioner, then had a second person loop it onto the alternator while I pulled back the tensioner. I used a breaker bar (didn't have a tensioner tool), so I couldn't quite do it myself
