Bought some different flowers and foliage and love their stuff. Will be buying a little bit of everything from there, especially knowing they are from my state.
The orc definitely needs flowers on its base..... and a dwarf or two, dwarf needs flowers to. 😁😆👍 But in all seriousness, I really like the idea of the cherry balsam flocking. I'm gonna have to check out the website to see if they have locking for other fruit bearing trees . I've always wanted to redo my tree sets and not just a single but one for all four seasons. I'll get to it as soon as my basements finished.
I absolutely love those flower tufts. Also you absolutely correctly pointed it out, smaller us often better. It just gives you more options. Im personally the non self adhesive side, and these seem great from the review
Thanks for sticking up for the little guy! I really like to use the Army Painter grass tuffs, but I'll give this product a try. I'll see you at the table!
I really like the smaller size; the larger ones are great for terrain but are often too large-feeling to use on small mini bases. These look like a much better option for the bases. Thanks for the new info. P.S. The projects I did following your tutorial videos (scatter ruins, scour pad trees, modular cave tiles, fire effects, etc) are posted on a new instagram account I made just for the hobby and I've tagged you in them.
So my dnd group has started buying me miniatures, this means I have to start seriously consider miniature painting. As such I have been going back through your mini painting videos to get a good gauge on how to get started. And these products look like they'd be great for my hobby corner, so thanks for the great review. Also, those flowers would work great on fey minis. Like I've got a dryad I've been meaning to paint and some flowers would work great on the base with some grass. Could also work for a character mini if they're going full anime with their character, like the wandering samurai who's deadly on the battlefield but appreciates the beauty of nature.
what i hate about self-adhesive grasses is when i trim it down with my hobby cutters and it sticks to my cutters, then i gotta clean em before i use em again. I like the idea that i can trim without worrying about clean up. less clean up means more building/hobbying
Good solid review of the product. Self-adhesive vs not, for me doesn't matter nor a deal breaker. I typically glue my tufts on an non-smooth surface. So the self-adhesive would not be very good. I've bought the WWS stuff before in the past and was satisfied with them. Unfortunately my local hobby shop stop selling them. Looking for a more economical way to go, I ended up building my own Static Grass Applicator and been dropping tufts all over the place. Making the size and color combos I need. When you get to that vid, I would be interested in what you think about making your own.
Jeremy, Great Video! Those grass tufts are very useful, I have some myself. I recommend you try out the Citadel Mini Painting Handle, it's very useful, again great videos man, keep it up!
It's too bad they don't have a variety pack. I just can't see myself buying a hundred of one color flower for 9 bucks. But I might spend $20 or $30 on a big variety pack.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial I've looked at getting these types of things in the past and every time I do I look at the whole variety with all the colors and all the styles and I start adding up the cost of trying to get every single kind or at least a variety for my terrain. By the time I'm done looking I have convinced myself that it isn't worth the money and I end up buying nothing. After all you said you have one pack that's lasted you over 2 years and you still have more. I'm going to do this a lot less than you so I just can't justify spending the money. But if they had a single variety pack my problem would be solved. And having said this I went out and did a search and found eBay and Etsy have listings with variety packs, hooray!
If only I already did......and if only youtube had a search bar to find it th-cam.com/video/U8Po8NoM7g4/w-d-xo.html ....not to mention the several videos where cutting foam with a knife was part of the build process.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Thanks! I had obviously not gone through your whole catalogue at the time, and had since found a couple examples in some of your videos. I some how did not see this video you linked to though, so this is great. :)
Hey BMC, how are you doing? Just want to make a suggestion for a build! How about doing a bank? everyones heros do need a place to deposit and withdraw money, right? Thank you for your videos and keep up the good work!
For some customers, the company from the UK might be cheaper for the products but that shipping cost would probably make it more expensive in the long run compared to the domestic company in Ohio. I live in PA so it would probably be cheaper as well as I'd get it faster.
The WWS company I show is available domestically from Amazon.com, from the links I provided. They are a UK company, but that's irrelevant because they are one of the few stocking at Amazon.
Uhhhhhh.....I don't use a laser cutter. It's a hotwire. Anyway, the next best thing is a good utility knife and patience. I have videos about cutting foam with a knife, the handy dandy search bar will lead you there ;)
Thanks for the review, Jeremy. Looks like a good option for variety. If you don’t mind my asking, where’s that Minotaur miniature from? Love your paint job on it.
I always have mixed feelings about basing minis. On one hand, it's really fun, and can look great. On the other hand, sometimes it's a pain in the butt, and as soon as the mini steps onto terrain that is different from its base it looks totally out of place (like those grassy tufted adventurers stepping into the tavern on the tavern floorboards video). I tend to do smooth black bases - a little putty to smooth over any glitches and a coat of black over all my painting mistakes - and that's nice and sleek and works fine and all the minis match each other at least... BUT it looks equally out of place on ALL terrain, and lacks character. Maybe if all my terrains are foam, I can replace the base with pins sticking out of the feet and just stab the minis in everywhere! XD
Hey Jeremy, since you recently created a frostgrave board, are you interested in Warhammer's WarCry coming this year? A skirmish-type game akin to the popular Kill Team for Warhammer 40k. I was interested in your opinion on Games Workshop minis and if you would be interested in playing their smaller scale games, where you are no required to make a several hundred dollar investment to play. Liked the video as always, keep up the good work.
Tufts: Why not use a small dab of super glue on the model? Put some accelerator on the tuft and BAM! It's stuck down. You can then add some white glue. Easy fix. Luke Towan has a static grass tutorial th-cam.com/video/iFXgSky6JMU/w-d-xo.html
Shadow's Edge Miniatures is a U.S. small company who also sells this market of products and they're absolutely amazing. Their tufts have a mega sticky adhesive backing that I've never had come off a clean base. Their flowering tufts are the most realistic I've seen, aside from laser-cut paper. I know it may not be your cup of coffee but Shadow's Edge Miniatures is, at the very least, worth a look if you're interested in realistic tufts! Please review if you get the chance!!
I really hope they have got better than when they did the Kickstarter last year. I went all in on that and what I received was crap. I have bought products from just about every company that produces tufts and flowers and these were the worst I have ever received - small, very sparse and constantly shedding. I eventually found a use for them...covered with thick snow.

Great video!! Also thanks for including links other than just The USA and Canada
Definitely picking up those flower tufts for my fey creatures.
They would look perfect on a druid, faerie, especially a unicorn or dryad mini!
Would also be appropriate for a ranger, elf, fey-aligned warlock, or nature paladin ("green knight").
Bought some different flowers and foliage and love their stuff. Will be buying a little bit of everything from there, especially knowing they are from my state.

I've been searching for some red flower tufts, and I'm pleased to see that this company offers some. I'll be giving them a try.

Just picked up some tufts this weekend from HugeMinis booth at Cincycon. Great product, great dude.
I supported both of Huge Minis kickstarters and love all the product I received. Good value, good product, highly recommend them.
Appreciate your honest reviews and transparency. Thanks!
Great review! Perfect timing. I have recently started using static grass tufts. These look great!

You need to do a cherry blossom treant
OH MY GOD I didn't know I wanted that until just now!
Totally! That's such a unique creature!!

I would have loved to see you apply some of these on any bases.
I applied them on two bases in the video
I would love to see a video about cutting the foam board you use for your builds, if you don't have a proxon saw. :) Keep up the great work.

Could make a burial mound with those white flowers, like in the Lord of the rings

Could you Review Lukes APS's range? Really want to know what you think about them.
Hey man, I'm looking for an alternative way to cut bricks without one of those laser cutters. Any suggestions? Maybe a video idea?
Uhhhhhh.....I don't use a laser cutter. It's a hotwire. Anyway, the next best thing is a good utility knife and patience. I have videos about cutting foam with a knife, the handy dandy search bar will lead you there ;)

Or is it an orc/bugbear wearing yak horns?
They are Alkemy minis.
Black Magic Craft: Thank you sir!
Lukes APS doesn't have the tuffs but he does have a US, Canada distributor now and it's free shipping so that's nice.

Cut the WWS grass tufts with the paper backing still on then they won't pull/stretch/stick to the scissors. I hear ya I was having the same issue.
I actually tried that before and didn't find that it made it much better
easy peasy fix.... buy both......:)

dude where can i get the shirt you're wearing in the vid?
One-man company?? Wow. That's isane. O^O
Great review!! Thanks from Oz
You need tweezers to plant that grass accurately. I'm enjoying the reviews as a change of pace.
If cutting the self-adhesive ones is such a pain, why don't you cut them before you take them off the paper?
that doesn't stop the tacky glue from getting stuck to the blade/scissors......
Hey Jeremy, great video. Love your content. Any chance of hearing the old intro music in a new video? Loved that jam man. Cheers
Ed
What mini are those you demoed on?
They are Alekemy minis
Lukes APS now has a distributor in the USA m8ty just to let you know, :)
That’s such an awesome shirt
you should make a video of painting minis
I have already
oh i saw them yesterday they are all really nice

if you cut the tuft while its on the paper it wont stretch the glue.
From my neck of the woods "Ohio"
fyi -- $9.00USD plus $10.50USD first class shipping pluss duties and exchange -- so add 40% -- to Canada--s
I picked up their "healthy" green grass and cherry blossom foliage for some samurai miniatures I painted and i was NOT disappointed.
Duty is always a gamble with ANY product coming to Canada. I didn’t pay duty on my shipment btw.
Oh cool
its sad shipping to Europe would cost 24 dollars, since really think they look great here.
do a stranger things build
not to steal any thunder, but Luke's APS has a US distributor now, fyi
Huge Miniatures.... it's a small one-man company. :-D
And their grass tufts are smaller than those from other companies!
