I was a Xtian when I started listening around 2000 and have followed his progression of his faith right along with him so his music means more to me than just about any artist.
That is Dave Bazan who is the only constant member of PTL and the writer of all the lyrics that I know of. All his music is incredibly personal and clearly moves him.
@@Confoundedjoe only song I know of that’s appeared on a PTL full length that he didn’t write is “Start Without Me” on Achilles Heel. That was a TW Walsh tune.
Been a fan of these guys since the early days. Ran into Dave a few times at shows, and he was always such an approachable, open book type of guy. I was a persistent Christian asking stupid questions, but he was always patient and cool. When he became an atheist, I was shocked, but always respected his candor and forthcoming nature with it. Fast forward to a few years later when I became one too, haha. So great to see Dave looking healthy, and still making cool ass music!
Truly impressive... Thought I was listening to the album version at points. Love that the bass is done with the keyboard, she's covering two band members worth of sound. Singing and playing drums ain't easy either... he's basically flawless at both. New appreciation for this record that I already was digging!
15, went to my first like official concert and it was pedro, big fan b4 like since 2022/23 STILL DAVE WRITES AMAZINGLY AND PERFORMS WELL Also heard Dave's doing something with headphones, I'd be so down for that. Headphones was such an amazing album actually a fav cos of the writing n synths
Very special tour lineup with Dave behind the kit. I remember seeing him in Seattle open for American Football at The Neptune playing bass and commenting how much fun it is.
Pedro the Lion might be my favorite band that I have discovered from KEXP being in my life. It certainly is the one that I cried the most to. I think I’ve lost about 10 gallons of saline to quietest friend and yellow bike.
awesoem interview. in 2003 age 16 I planned to drive up and camp in front of his house and mentor like skywalker and yoda looking back i wouldve been arrested probably but thats how big of a deal his music felt as a fellow half mexicacn preachers kid from the southwest. pedro the lion was my beatles/grandaddy if you will . you wont? screw you then.
I'm immensely grateful that David has been able to continue making and releasing music. The indie music world has no shortage of evangelical exiles and de-converts. Just like David, I wasn't allowed to listen to "secular" music as a child and adolescent. It was in listening to Christian punk, emo, and indie rock that led to an eventual appreciation of more unrestrained forms of music. And from there, I never looked back.
Note the mic stand coming up between Dave's arms and feet: The mark of a truly tasteful singing drummer, because it means that he CAN'T get his left hand over to the right side of the kit, and can't play anything more than the absolute minimum necessary - which is always the right and only way to play.
Love the story of Dave feeling good after a show and "honoring that" and still "gushing" about a favorite band. Hope he keeps this in mind when I tweet about how much I love Pedro the Lion over and over lol.
I love him, I feel like he is so underrated
I want David at my funeral. Been a fan since 90's when I lived in Bremerton. Thank you for continual songwriting and performing!

Dave's drumming is such an inspiration. So steady and subtle, never over playing or showing off. Just playing exactly what the song needs.
Hats off to the sound engineer. This mix is perfect! That guitar tone is amazing.
David, you are more than the songs. You are the soundtrack of my exit from the church, you are the sound of freedom and blunt honesty. thank you.
Dope to see music take over the body like the drummer 🥁

David Bazan still has good songs, a fan of his for over 20 years
David is one of a kind. The storytelling, the emotive arrangement and the humor - one of my favorites of all time.
Tall Pines always takes my breath away.
Same! Such a powerful song.
@ it reminds me personally of teenage sequencer and model homes off the previous records.
we love you kexp
One of the finest songwriter ❤
The finest.
Such a great performance! Had a chance to tour KEXP last week at the CBI conference - thank you!
David is amazing. Multi talented musician and songwriter
Incredible. Thank you KEXP for having David and gang back
Fantastic set.
More Pedro the Lion on KEXP please!
Prefect timing. They're opening for City and Color and I admittedly hadn't heard of them before. Thanks KEXP!
Love these guys. Hard to believe I discovered them in college and it’s been 30 years (same for David who is the same age!). Glad to see them on KEXP.

Didn't even know he was playing the drums when this session first aired. Dave Baz-adass
Superb! Accomplished, different, compact and fantastically listenable. Come to UK soon!
Sounds killer guys, as always! 🤘
Tall Pines is awesome

The new stuff is good
I gave Pedro the Lion a few tries listening to cd's and it never hit me but just two songs in and the live performance has me understanding.
Software Slump. Absolute masterpiece.
GOAT
vote for pedro
So y'all just the new Police now? Got the andy on guitar sitll, but sting's on keys and stewart's on the vocals. Hello fellow drummers.
Is it just me or is there a huge delay in A/V? Either way, its always a pleasure to see David and friends on KEXP.
If only Dave bazan and the wooden stars could make music together... If you haven't heard of them .. listen and you'll get the picture..

What happened to Dave playing bass and the other drummer? Now a keyboard?
Please get Men I Trust on!
Davids like, welp no drummer for this show, ill just do it myself lol... what a talent
