I don't get back home for every Big Meeting, missed this one. However in recent years I remember 2017 and 2018 for the beautiful blue sky's. Got a sun burned hooter in 2017. Well over 100,000 attend these days (perhaps not this year with the weather?) Attendances have fluctuated over the last 50 years of course but it's popularity has been growing again thankfully. I will never forget my mining ancestors. Solidarity.
So glad you've filmed this year's gala, despite the rain. My great grandad is one of the union leaders on a banner, it always makes me proud to see it. I know the gala was a huge deal years ago when there was a huge mining industry in Durham, today its great to see the traditional being rekindled.
Thank you for an excellent film of the Durham Miners' Gala. I was unable to attend this year so you made up for it. The bands played really well in difficult conditions.
Thanks so much for filming that ... all in the rain ... well thinned out crowd from the last time I went, on a very hot July Summer's day about 4 years ago . . . love all the Banners lined up at the field ... and the Scottish pipes etc. Great 👌👌 Cold here in my lounge - I've even got a small Radiator on 😮😮 Did you get a sausage roll and a hot drink from Greggs? Bet they did a roaring trade ... 🌭🫖
Were any members from Labours front bench in attendance. When I last attended a few years back not one from Labour could be bothered to attend. Too far from Islington.
I carnt make it this year to cane home sorry I did see My banner on your video I am so proud from where I come from My respect to the uncles I’ve lost in the last 2 years examiners xx
@@NorthernExposure1 Hope so but next year you will be complaining about the crowds, if it is SUNNNY. It is too crowded for me now!!!! Like sardines in a can. My village. BLACKHALL used to put trip buses on, to DURHAM big meeting when I was child!!! Not many people had a car in them days, FIRST big meeting I can remember I was probably 5. Ended up in the police station lol Lost child, Infact there was even a lost child tent, where you would go to pick up your lost children, on the main field. I must have got lost up near the Hotel, so was quicker for the police to just take me to COPshop… 1975 How times have changed

First time I’ve been, but yeah, the weather was absolutely dreadful!
Love seeing all this. Brings my Childhood-teenage memories come flooding back.
