I remember the first time I heard an officer in the Army say "legacy system." I thought, "that's a weird way to say 'the old shit.'" All the other officers must've thought "legacy _____" sounded smarter because the term spread like herpes.
Legacy is appropriate - the Hudson H9 wasn't 'discontinued', it straight up died. Therefore, legacy design.

Every time I see this new intro I picture James striking a pose on a runway with a bunch of different guns he is modeling.
I get the impression this is one of those guns that people will hype beast, and be excited about at launch.. But won't sell anywhere close to as many as DD thinks.
It's kind of a, oh that's neat. I don't think a ton of people are $1300 excited about it though.
I bought it on impulse purely because it's just different. And I am now a hype beast it's a edc size pistol slim as a 365 and recoils like my shadow 2. It's honestly set the bar so high for me. I think its definitely not for everyone as everyone has their preference in what feels and shoots good for them, but this one I would say don't knock it until you try it!

I like the look of the older Hudson better
This has an aluminum grip frame instead of steel, weight has been cut below 30oz and it's been gone over by DD engineers.
It's likely better than the original.

I picked one up last friday...shot it next to my steyr M9A2MF....didn't notice much difference in reduced recoil. But it didn't break when releasing the slide catch and it sent 60 rounds down range no problem.
The Steyr handguns have ridiculously low bore axis. I have a L9A1 and it’s my most accurate non-1911 pistol I can shoot with iron sights (those trapezoidal sights work wonders). If only the reset on the trigger was more pronounced…
There's a big size difference in those too, my steyre shoots much nicer than my delta2 but it's also thicker and heavier. So the H9 being smaller and being comparable to the steyre actually is saying alot which is cool. The way I'm thinking that means it's substantially better than pistols it's size/weight.
Edit:the steyre shoots nicer than other full size pistols. So the H9 shooting the same as that means it, a thin compact pistol, is actually really good for it's size. Hope I'm making sense
@@chasewalden3644 you just m mentioned something important about the Steyr pistols: they are thick. Not Glock .45acp thick, but something in between. I have an universal Phalanx holster and the Steyr is the only one of my polymer 9mm handguns that won’t fit it.
How did you get one? They haven't even announced a release date yet.
@jakem8280 they're at quite a few gun shops I imagine...my lgs ordered 3 of them a month ago and got them in last Thursday and I bought it the next day.
The only thing I really heard was "low bore axis." However some other manufacturers can boast this feature and all the others mentioned as well. They priced it at $1,299 because of the brand is proud of their stuff. That's a $650-700 gun at best.
650 for the gun plus another 650 for the name. Just like Wilson.

I think it's a neat gun and aesthetically it's appealing, but for the price I'm just going to get a CZ Shadow 2 Compact.
shadow2 is just a better gun anyways. (having shot both).
@@TheBirdboy84 Yeah, I have no doubt. I love my plastic wonder 9's but having only held full size shadow 2's I can definitely see the appeal. I just wish I had the money to buy one hahaha!

I think for that price I would go with a Beretta PX4 from Langdon Tactical. Not their full package at $2k but some essential enhancements for EDC.
Some guns just look good, I have no idea if it’s actually good but damn the reworked H9 looks good
agreed but I wish they didnt raise the lower rail. it fucked with the aesthetics but that’s just my opinion
The only thing that throws it off is that stainless steel pin at the trigger guard. DD should've made it black to match the rest of the gun.

Overall Staccato but if it's my money being spent. Shadow 2 Compact, Done.
Check out the Steyr L9 for another low bore axis gun.
Boys just give it a year for the price to stabilize and come down and you do that by not buying it. If you want it cheaper then just don’t buy it until the price comes down. That’s what happened to Walthers PDP, nobody bought it so the price came down to like $399 or less.
You bring up a good point. Walther PDP variants would be a better buy
than the DD H9. The thing with Walther, they're still suffering for the symptom of being part S&W all those years ago. Walther doesn't do enough marketing. I don't know why. As Walther easily has the best pistol in production.

What really makes a H9 stand out over anything else out there that has decent capacity, a rail for a light and is optics ready. I'll take a cz P-10c, hellcat pro, Sig 365xl over that DD H9! You could almost buy all three of those guns for the same price as one DANIEL Defense H9. You could definitely buy 2.
If you have lots of money then buy the H9, nothing wrong with that. There is to many high quality guns in the $400- $600 range to want to make me go over $1200 for just one.
Low bore axis and 1911-style trigger, plus being as thin as a Sig P365. It’s also modular.
The better comparison would be the legion 365 as both are around the same price.....
Nothing about this gun is new, innovative, or worth the hype to me. Seems like just another way for people to flex their inability to judge value vs. branding.

I bought one because I like the idea of a metal Glock 1911 hybrid. It also has a serialized trigger group like sig so the frame is swappable at some point. Comparing this to the M&P metal series they both have their plus’s but the H9 is thinner and feels better in my hand. The trigger definitely took a few rounds to get used to but after 200 I don’t notice the bottom hinge
Same and I wasn't expecting it to be anything special but I'm in love with it. Replacing my staccato with it as my edc kinda in love with it lol. It really does recoil very little for it's size
Fitting that a video called "the truth of the h9" would just be an advertisement for the h9 with no content.

My local range has this gun for rent. I put 50 rounds through it. I did enjoy shooting the DD H9. the trigger is a bit odd feeling on the finger at first since the trigger safety pivots at the bottom. The trigger pull is nice and the reset is also great. I personally feel that the grip was a little thick. I know its not, but in my hands it felt that way.
The price is BS though, get the price down to 800 instead of 1200.
I would even be willing to accept something like 949 because sub 1k would still be possible out the door. I'm not an expert but I can almost guarantee you that Daniel defense could have put this out there sub 1K and still made a healthy profit. Greedy.
Meanwhile, they will fly off the shelves. People who aren’t price conscious are the target audience. I don’t care if it’s $800 or $1300 if I want it. I’m not trying to be a snob but Daniel Defense products aren’t for everyone. 🤷

They fired one million rounds of 9mm for the testing and production of this pistol, yet mine is being replaced after reaching a whopping 350.

$1,300 sounds like a lot but D.D. did an insane amount of testing and research and development on it. Especially with something different than a normal striker. The price might seem high but it actually is very fair
I guess if you live in the world of high end 1911s then $1,300 might seem fair.

As neat as the H9 looks I'm curious how it stacks up against something like a CGW CZ P10c for half the price. The H9 has the little recoil mitigation system and low bore axis but the CZ has a super low bore axis itself.
Being a fan of CZ rifles I absolutely had to have a P10c when they were released. It was the biggest disappointment of any gun purchase I have ever owned for several reasons. I sold it long ago.
Let me put it this way for you. The H9 is nicer and less flippy, that being said we are talking about 9mm there really isn't too much difference. If you want something cool and unique that is a little better than the rest the H9 is what you want. If you are happy with what you got, it's not worth it.
Just picked an H9 up the other day. 350 rnds so far. Flawless. Great pistol from DD
As a Southpaw & a 1911 aficionado, I really want this pistol. But, I had a recurring issue w/the rental sample I fired 100 rds through. Time will tell. I will continue to keep an eye on this one. 👍👍

Have you seen a P226? You can get one for under $1,000 but as soon as you want better sights, a good SOA trigger, and an optics cut they can get up to $2,100

Why does the front muzzle area of the Daniel Defense H9 bob up & down so much when shooting? It looks very unnatural compared to a typical 1911/2011 and even Glock. 😮

I shot the gun it shoots very well accurate and fast! However I would want to see a larger grip frame and a threaded barrel model for starters.

Should have ported it or had an option for it to really take advantage of the low bore axis, make it as flat as possible. Sig and other manufacturers are incorporating ports into carry pistols, I think DD missed out at launch to not include a ported option in my opinion.
I was interested in the H9 until I heard $1299, then I became uninterested real quick.

Maybe you could use a directional microphone for those videos? You should already have one i assume, it could work way better by not soaking all the fun shot sounds from the background. You can use it exactly as you use the mic right now, you're already pointing the mic at the person that speaks.

To my eyes that bore axis is no lower than a typical CZ. It’s a bit disappointing that they keep pointing to that as being innovative. Also comical to see how many people think this has a 1911 lower because of the straight pull trigger. It’s nowhere near the same design. I guess since the Platypus uses Glock mags, people think a 1911 can suddenly be made into anything now.
CZs don’t actually have that low of a bore axis, they just have the frame covering part of it so it looks lower. (This isn’t me hating on CZ, I EDC a P07). This thing does actually have a lower bore axis due to how the recoil mechanism design. Not as low as an Alien, but also way cheaper.

I don't care how much effort and expenditure they put into improving the Hudson design, I don't care if it's more durable, I don't care if it's more accurate. I will never ever ever give my money to Daniel Defense after the shit they pulled the gun control bill.
I own an original Hudson H9, and I would sooner pay a ridiculous price on GunBroker for another original to use as replacement parts before I buy an H9 from Daniel Defense.

From what I've been hearing, most people don't like the trigger. Besides the price, it's the only other downside. I would like to how well it suppress.
Here's my biggest gripe. Why should I buy this at $1,300 when I can save up for an LTT Beretta instead? I think this the best question to ask yourself if you're thinking about buying one.

They got my gun back for the second trip for warranty repair on 02/29/2024. As of 03/23/2024, I don't have it back. I don't care it it takes two more months if they send it back running great and shooting straight! Is it a gun contract? If so there are many companies with them. DD could snap them in line by saying uphold The People's rights or we pull our contract. Then you have to look at where DD gets their money. I'm guessing it's not enough from The People given what they charge to buy.

Didn't like how this shot.......I like how the gun felt in the hand, low felt recoil. I couldn't get on target with it printed low for me.
This gun could be amazing in most respects but with the daniel defense tax its not going to take off like it probably should which is kind of a shame. Itcould have been sold all the way up to like the $800 mark on the high and it probably would have still done fine.

DD has a lot of production capacity, they invested lots of time and money therefore will produce en masse for a long time... The price will come down
I appreciate the setting of a range for this video, but all that firing at the beginning is annoying as all get out and completely drowns out Mike's dialogue on the changes in the gun.
