You can wear saree any day. However the ones they are wearing are expensive and people would wear such for special occasions. It’s a very common daily attire in india.

Sitting position gives you more control while singing.... gravity holds you give you more control to focus on singing also the breath is taken from stomach a full breath.... with practice you get more control on breath to sing longer Verse

The percussion instrument in this performance is Mridangam or Mrudangam which is essential to Karnataka music. It's north Indian equivalent is Pakhawaj or Mrudang. Dholak is a folk instrument. The clay pot is called Ghatam. You can watch video of Anuja Kamath about Indian classical instruments. Old Indian classical instruments are considered sacred as Hindu deities are considered as original masters. Mrudangam is related to Lord Ganesha, Saraswati Veena to Goddess Saraswati, Flute to Lord Krishna, Rudra Veena and Dumbell to Lord Shiva and so on. You may see all legendary instrument players giving respect to the instrument and calling themselves as devotees of the instrument. This is how they give respect to the original masters and seek their blessings before the performance.

Hey guys love your reaction videos as usual! When she covered her ear with her hand it wasn't to keep a check on her jaw's tension, basically here she was trying to hear the tanpura and make sure that she's singing the taan (i.e. a cluster of notes in a high tempo) in the right pitch. Most singers usually do cover one of the ears as the rhythm section sometimes does get a bit loud.

You guys should react to more of Ajay Atul! You have already reacted to a few of their songs, one without knowing it was them. They are AR Rahman level yet very underrated by the Hindi film industry. Their signature style is blending large orchestral scores with Marathi folk music
    Suggested songs:
    Apsara Aali from Natrang
    Khel Mandla from Natrang
(They've won multiple National Awards for this movie)
Mauli (Marathi devotional music) from Lai Bhaari
    Deva Shree Ganesha from Agneepath
    Yad Lagla from Sairat
(Another movie that fetched several awards including for its music, this was the first Indian movie to be scored by a large Hollywood orchestra)

It is NEITHER DHOLAK, NOR KHOL, it is called *MRU-DHAN-GAM* MRUDHANGAM, Khol has higher octave sounds, Dholak has bit lower, Mrudhangam is the MOST COMMON percussion instrument in all of classical CARNATIC concerts.
The the clay pot shaped instrument is called *GHA-TAM* ghatam.

Music has a spiritual connotation to Indians. Sitting before an audience is no different from sitting before God; that is the level of respect you give them. It derives from temple singing, from time immemorial. The tradition of Dhrupad has its origins in temple singing.

    1) Sarees are worn everyday with special kinds of sarees and jewelries for special occasions. 2) Sitting position is traditional and is best suited for this style of singing (gives more control on the voice for nuance sounds) 3) Jewelries they are wearing is their choice and not earned.

Saree is just the normal everyday dress for many people and you get it in all price ranges and for all occasions, from a simple light cotton saree to wear for doing your house chores and going for groceries, over nicer fabric more expensive sarees for celebrating festivals, all the way to insanely expensive gold-threaded and bedazzled embroidered silk sarees for important functions (like marriages etc) that can basically cost a fortune.
My Indian mother-inlaw never wears anything other than saree, ever. I'm very bad at draping them, so I wear them only if I absolutely have too (even if I love seeing them). Once I attended a wedding where the bride's saree cost some 3k dollars because they had sewn real jewels onto it.

Waleska Herrera - your efforts to understand Indian Classical are so much appreciated and adored. Another angle is that India Classical music is all about understand the 'Beauty' aspect of the divine thru music. When you sense the beauty of the creation and the creator--using your breath to express that beauty is the least an appreciator of beauty can do.

They are Carnatic Singers. They have borrowed Chandrakauns raaga from Hindustani Music & they are singing it in Carnatic style. The beauty of this is the singers are Carnatic, have borrowed raaga from Hindustani Music & they are singing a beautiful Marathi Abhanga, a devotional song in Marathi language which is not their native language in London in front of all Indian audience from north, south, east & west.
Yes! Raaga is structured but even then it gives you ample scope for exploration. That's the beauty of Indian Classical Music. For that to understand you need to listen to Mahesh Kale's Raag Yaman Medley. Do watch this & react. All the songs in this video are based on Yaman, but each one has it's own personality.

Maharashtra isn't Dakshin Kashi, Maharashtra is Maharashtra and Kashi is Kashi.
And no, Maharashtra doesn't necessarily have the longest Saint culture.
Infaxt, Saint culture likely was more prominent further down south.
even Pundalik was likely from Karnataka.

It is "Naabhi hrudh kanta rasana". The strength comes from your Naabhi or diaphragm, moves to your heart for bringing in the feeling of the lyrics of the composition.... If only fine that way does the music coming into the larynx sound as sweet. Sitting helps in controlling the diaphragm

For sitting cross legged & singing.
1)feeling & being more connected with the vubrations ..directly they ground(( as she explained))
    2) not only singigng.
    But other essential & enlightining
Things are done wtih the cross leged ,,sitting om ground
    Say .
    For ex.
    While eating...
Many indians ,,luv to be cross leged & eat,,
    Look at any indian sages.
They would be meditating ,,in the same position..
Coz its a more harmonic way to connnect with naature...
As once.u inc ur surface area.
    Thus more stability
++ centre of mass of ur bidy shifts near to ground( again extra stabilising,, especially while doing dhyaan ,,,,inter seeking)..
    3) also..
    While sitting
The blood pressure in the lower half dec..
    While inc im upper half.
    Thus.
Shifting a higher oxygen, energy & everything to the upper body.
    Thats basically in work
((as legs are in rest now,, they dont need ectra energy)).
    U can discover many...
    Infact ,,him..referring to prayer thing..
    Can be connected
But cant be ,,pasted as religious..thing.
    Hence necessary.
    Nope its not.
Instead its scientific or dharmic( that u guy understand as religion)...
    Yeah we had , .
    & bhajans ,,pujaa( prayers)
    Been sittih cross legged..
    Coz
Again the need of ,,more harmonic
    Interference comes in play
So yeah. ,u can say its scientific way..or dharmic way
    .
    Both the same..
Infact science is a subset of ,,dharm
    ..
    In hindism /snatan dharm.
    U will find evevyrhing

Efra check your IG, there's gonna be a lot of content recommendation in the coming week 😂
Also when you see them touching the ear during the end, it is essentially then closing their ear to stay in tune because with practice you can sense your pitch while you ears are closed and there is no external input but just the response of the sound that you are producing.
Also the last phrase being taken 3 times is a classic music rule where you end a raag with a 'tihai', meaning that the songs ends with repeatition of the key phrase thrice.

Guys just wanted you to know the reason indian music and flamenco music sounds similar is because the Flamenco music was brought to your thousands of years ago by Romani people (Gypsies) who migrated from india to Europe due to various reasons. The Music they brought with and got integrated with local language which today is known as Flamenco

That is a simplified version of the history of Flamenco. There are Arabic, Jewish and North African influences not to mention new world influences in certain Palos (styles) of flamenco.
