  • Choosing quality fresh eggs is important. If you can find fertile eggs locally, that increases your hatch rate success because they are not shipped by mail.
    If no local eggs available, Ebay offers fertile chicken eggs and I have had good hatch rates from shipped eggs. Pick the sellers carefully and read reviews.

    Should I turn shipped eggs if they have detached air cell?

      Hello Albert, if some eggs have detached air cells, you should try to set those in an egg carton small end down like mine in the egg turner or yes you still turn them very slowly but the idea is to reattach the air cell to the large end or that will help form a new air cell on the large end which is where the chick will hatch from. Closer to lock down, make sure to get the humidity in the incubator as high as possible. Good luck!

      Pudle Luvr Hello Pudle, thanks for all your comments. Hatching eggs can be a little complicated but rewarding when you see chicks breaking through the egg. Happy Chicken Keeping! Justine

    Hello. I have just set up my new incubator & I have silkie eggs arriving in the mail tomorrow. I know I need to rest them overnight, on their point ends. Does this mean that I don't move them at all during that resting time? So, no turning them? Thanks.

      Hello there, you do not rotate the eggs during the 24 hour resting period. That is correct. Once in the incubator, then the eggs require rotating several times daily until day 18 which is lock down. Good luck and happy chicken keeping!

    When you set up your incubator, what humidity level do you normally start it at?

    • @colesbackyardcoop
      @colesbackyardcoop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Between 60 to 70% is good and I open one vent on top. At hatch, open two vents and increase humidity to 70 to 75%. Thanks for watching!

    How much does it raise your electric bill?

      Danielle luvscows Hello, it really don't notice much of a difference. The incubator regulates the temperature and turns on and off to keep the temperature steady. Good luck!

    We did this a few weeks ago...we obtained the eggs and incubator from a local farmer. See our journey at vln-tweet.blogspot.ca/
