This reminded me of my childhood. The whole family sat on the porch and shelled peas and beans. We all talked and laughed. I grew up in Malvern, Arkansas and purple hull peas were our favorite. Thank you for stirring my heart to great memories.

1980 and my new bride and I cooked up a batch of chili. We both tasted it, and then my wife left to take a shower. I decided to add a generous amount of ground black pepper. When she came out of the shower, then it was my turn. She was giving the chili a stir, and had decided while she was in the shower that it needed more black pepper, so she added a generous amount. When I got out of the shower, I did a taste test, and WOW it was hot. We figured out what we each had done with adding more pepper. She tasted it, and said she wouldn't be able to eat it. I admitted that I couldn't either. So I ran to the grocery store just down the street and bought enough meat, sauce, and kidney beans to make another entire big batch - which we did NOT season, and mixed the two together. It was great. We ate some and froze some and had chili for weeks.

Hi hello, beautiful family , I admire you all, as a whole family getting on with it no matter what the weather or time it is, I grew up with that kind of live but the old way , not as modern as you are equipped, where we where self sufficient with ours foods, at the time , I didn't realise how much happier and healthier I was , today I try to get back to it in a very small garden, what I mean is, it's make sense to enjoy the Hard work as much as you can with your kids.they learn as they grow up believe me that's is the biggest present any parents could offer to young children.❤ From France.

Freeze drying is hands down the best and easiest way to put back your garden. We have freeze dried so many tomatoes, blackberries, basil, tomatillos, cucumbers and green beans from this years garden it's crazy. Good thing we have 3 big freezer.

Great Job!! Your tomatoes looked beautiful! My maternal grandparents had 12 children with my mom being the baby. With 1200 acres planted all the kids worked the field except my mom because her job from a very young age was to do the cooking at the house on the wood cookstove. We had a wood cook stove for cooking in the winter and propane for the summer. I think of them when I see all of you working so well together.

Try using a roaster to cook tomatoes for canning. We got one that has temp setting, set to 150 degrees and cover overnight, then remove the lid and cook for 24-48 hours. Will cook down, get thick and does not have cooked taste. Changed our canning this year! We use hand blender to make smooth for tomato soup.

I think you could double your chili freeze dry yield with those additions if you don’t mind reducing your animal protein vs total yield. Only an after thought. Best wishes to you and your family always.

Absolutely enjoy watching and find your channel so heartwarming!! Thank you for doing all that you do and the way that you do it!! This may sound like an odd question ....How do you keep your range top clean especially with your All-American on top when canning ?

If I had just one roma plant that produced relatively well how many pints of tomatoes would I anticipate?

Great question, and hard to answer with complete accuracy. A good producing Roma plant will likely give you between 20-30lbs of tomatoes. This will give you 10-20 pints. The problem you might run into is having enough ripe tomatoes at one time to be able to preserve. You would likely need to process the tomatoes in three different batches. You may find better success planting two or three Roma plants to give yourself a buffer.

Great video. Your spaghetti sauce looks fabulous! I’m intrigued by the soil blocks. Do they ever fall apart on you?

I recently found your channel. Your garden and crops are amazing. I think it is wonderful how you have raised your children to be so helpful. Are you both from Arkansas? Do you just use the boiler for heat or is that used for extra?
I love your pantry. Do you use your appliances back there or just store?
    You have beautiful home.

By the amount of hard work you have to put into preserving, I always find these videos addictive 🍆❤
