To Tra Ho-Yes creating videos and news articles helps to create change and bring awareness to this issue for the Dine' and other Indigenous. Are you aware of how the uranium companies who mined uranium on Navajo Rez, did not clean up. Some Dine' have cancer. I am a Dine' filmmaker. Depicting ideas such as this brings on awareness. There is a larger history. US Fed govt & mainstream news most of the times tries to not cover such important issues among the Indigenous of the Americas such as this. It makes me angry how little attention is given to cover Indigenous issues such as this by US mainstream news. Usually news outside US covers these issues such as the cutting of saguaro cactus on Tohono O' odham Nation on their land and in relation to their people. Many people I meet in Canada & US have no idea who we are and what's happening. What does that show you? I care. I am 70 and this set up of ignorance, racism and sexism still continues and pervades due to Doctrine of Discovery-to claim the land Columbus thought he discovered for Queen Isabella and later on U.S.- Manifest Destiny---for example, Lewis & Clark---why did they really travel and did US let public know? No. Lewis and Clark did it for Jefferson to claim land west of the Miss. for US---this is ours when Indigenous people lived on the lands for many many years? Stolen land. Who are the invaders? Not Indigenous. We are first peoples of the land who live here and have sovereignty. I mix and meet all kinds of people of different colors. I have travelled. Been around. Better to create awareness than not. Preparing a video about athabaskan speakers now in Canada & U.S.I try.
