    Loved both of these games. Here are a few recommendations of similar exploration games (of varying length) that I've enjoyed: Alien Afterlife, Sunken Heads, Crypt worlds, Broken Reality, Endo, Sanguine Sanctum, Fatum Betula, Naissancee, Tales from off-peak city, Autogeny. Still many more I need to play, but these types of games are always a joy when I feel like immersing myself in the weird creativity of people.

    its impressive how much of a sense of place & living culture Stomp Plonk creates w it crude materials (the sound feels hacked-together compared to like, Thief, but its used rly well). that crudeness almost lets the world breathe & assume imaginary life more than if it were less abstract tbh.

    I actually really like how BABBDI is done, they over exaggerated the way the soviet union looks and eastern parts of russia without making it actually look overexaggerated, i somehow find comfort in some parts of the map and really i cant explain it, the game is just a different experience

    • @redeyesgreendragon
      @redeyesgreendragon  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think its a combination of the friendly NPCs, the nostalgic sound design, and your character's ability to quickly traverse the city that helps it feel less intimidating than in your first impression. The city also feels thoughtfully built and inspired by real designs.
      Its kinda similar to the feeling of visiting a different country/culture for the first time. You might feel intimidated or scared at first, but with time you warm up to the people and become familiar with your surroundings.

    I don't know if its your speed or type of game but I would really recommend playing the Minecraft map Broville (v11). Its a huge continent of a map with secrets and easter eggs wherever you go. You don't get wacky zannie characters like in other games but the map has a lot of soul and character. You'll come across graffiti that glimpses into the life of one of the map builders, find a plane wreck where the survivors resorted to cannibalism, underground ancient tombs, a fully playable portal copy and horror game, stories of introspection, friendship and incoherent nonsense.
    You might already need an appreciation for Minecraft map making, building and the game itself but to me its such a one of a kind diary of creativity, wonder and exploration. You might like version 10 better too, it was built in beta and has that crisp old school gaming community feel and jank that I get with some of the games you play.
    Also great video as always. Love this kind of game commentary

    I’ve spent a lot of hours on doom and games like that, but I’m also deeply frustrated that nearly all games follow a never ending kill-death cycle. It would be really nice if more of them were about exploring quirky thoughtfully put together digital worlds but we can’t have nice things. Btw, “proteus” (not the shooter) would be a easy addition to the vibes outlined in the video I think : )

      I've been pleasantly surprised at the amount of indie games mentioned in the comments that focus on exploration. IMO it seems the genre works the best as short experiences created by 1 or a few individuals.
