I bought an aygo for commuting, it's absolutely fantastic. £20 a year tax, average 60mpg. Can work on it myself to save service costs. Did suffer from water ingress but easy enough to fix. Cheap insurance and running costs means everyday motoring is affordable

I’m 19 bought a lovely 107 for just over £3000 after tax and insurance it’s my first car and suits my needs perfectly definitely would recommend to any first time drivers
I've had my Peugeot 107 2006 for 5 years or so, it's a fantastic little car and I do my own maintenance. It usually passes the mot but every other year I have to have welding done. I'm in my 60s and it's fine for what I need it for, I have gone off camping in it too.
I own a xf jaguar and a lexus and a 2010 Peugeot 107 millsim. Since I purchased my 107 i only drive this little beauty, it's very nippy cheap on fuel and handles like a go cart, best car I've owned
Ooh, very jealous of that collection, out of curiosity, which Lexus do you have? Its definitely a great car to drive, economy wise, handling wise, and fun at low speed, it's very hard to match such a small go-kart feeling car. I feel like the XF would be fun but you have to keep it above a certain speed? Glad you're enjoying your car, and thank-you for taking the time to watch & comment.
Brilliant cars👍 Just bought 2 Aygos for me and my wife, no tax, insurance 240pounds for both, 55mpg. Not bored with it at all after 6 months bearing in mind my previous few cars were Impreza WRX, Skyline GTR, Mini SD and Audi TT quatro. 66 Plate Aygo is not excessively noisy, boot is great for shopping (2 seconds to drop the seats) acceleration is more than fine for city driving especially if higher revving in lower gears. Occasionally use it on motorways and is fine at 70mph. All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending these cars, but I certainly prefer the new shaped model and with the screen in the dash. Just my opinion from someone with 30 plus years of driving and sick of costly repairs and hefty running costs.

Hi John, Great tip! Makes sense as just felt the metal around the arches/boot and it's thin as thin can be, thank you, and hope you enjoy yours. (P.S. Nice 2CV in the profile picture!)
@@loosenuts01 I dont own the 2cv now, had it for nearly 5 years, as my only car, good car but sold it for something more suitable for what I need now, not many cars you can make over a £1000 profit now have a peugeot 107, if you also fit wind deflectors it cuts out a lot of wind noise, 🙂just had to keep the profile picture.
I've not yet had the chance to drive one, but they look throwable & in a way quite similar to the Peugeot (minus the electronics/ABS). Agreed, not many you could sell nowadays for a £1,000 profit, nice job. And will take your advice with the wind deflectors, thank you!
@@loosenuts01 I outran a bmw over the penines round all the bends, I pulled into a layby for a smoke and few minutes later bmw pulled in he walked up and asked what the hell was under the bonnet as he could not keep with me, I showed him, he looked amazed at 2 cylinders of 600cc, he said the way it was leaning (they do) he thought it was going to fall over, (it cannot be done), like riding a motorcycle leaning the wrong way, unnerving at first but it feels even wierder now the 107 hardly moves, 2cv's are bloody good fun that puts up with constant thrashing that they survive on, try one you will love it.
In France, many vehicles are going to be banned in city centers to reduce pollution. And luckily, these small cars are very ecological, so they will be allowed. Besides, it is a good idea to own one, because it allows to drive in small city centers.
Mine has run over 235.000km (146022 miles) and still purrs like a kitten and starts every single time. It's a rock solid engine. Best city car I have ever owned. Gets me from A to B in no time, and it's dirt cheap in fuel cost, insurance and maintenance. If something breaks down, you can easily find spare parts online and just plug them in. Of course if you have no idea how to replace the transmission etc. it's going to be a tad more expensive, but not by a lot compared to newer cars and all their electric crap.
You didnt hold second gear long enough in your 0-60, its good for a screaming 50/55 mph before you move to third and its where the bulk of the acceleration comes from between 0 and 60. That little Daihatsu engine can rev its balls off when pushed. We have had our C1 for 11 years now, it has barely cost us anything.
Hi Sulla1105, Thank you for watching & for your comment! Yeah, agreed, the launch & gear changes weren't ideal, I did a couple of good runs when I was practicing, but forgot to record them. Have to say, Daihatsu engines are some of the best I've ever seen, the 1.3 from the 2003 ect Yaris/Daihatsu Sirion is just so good, and they last forever!
They are a great first car not without their faults. Engines get smoky and rattles when cold with mileage and start burning oil they have a small oil capacity. But keep them top up with oil and they go on and on. Poorly maintained ones the vvt can clog up causing the engine to hold back at around 4000rpm. Will still Rev out. There is normally a drop of about 5/10mpg. 5 door model the rear windows the bonding can fail causing the rear window to fall out but is an easy cheap fix. But parts and servings are cheap and I know someone who had a big accident in one and they stand up very well. My wife had one as her first car a 2 tronic (automatic)and I have brought one for my daughter as a first car. I don’t think you can go far wrong with them
I've had a 3 door Aygo and delivered packages with that one. Don't underestimate the size you get with the back seats folded down! Those cars are surprisingly spacious.
Having the pleasure of driving a 107 3 weeks ago for the 1st time from Birmingham to Carlisle, I can say it surprised the hell out of me, 145K on the clock and it drove sweet as a nut, I say get the rpm over 3K and it wants to pull, and will sit at 70-75mph no problem at all, but the best thing of all was the fuel consumption..... full tank at Birmingham.. drove all the way to Carlisle . Then around Brampton.. drove back... got diverted at St helens added another 30 miles on didn't need to refill until just after Stafford.... the fuel consumption is brilliant.... would I have one??? Yes I would!!!!
this is why I think the Fiat Panda is the perfect small car. It's got the same credentials as the C1/107/Aygo plus extra space, extra doors, more height and a slightly more revvy engine.
@@andrewpreston4127 I mean, everything is screwed into place well. I've owned it 2 years and it's never put me wrong. A friend had an Aygo and it constantly crapped itself
I do like the older 2000's Panda, drove the 4x4 & 100BHP models before, which are very different beasts, but equally very fun, wish they combined them both! To be honest, I do think sometimes it's luck of the draw with these things, the Panda's I drove were great, but to be honest I really do like the 107/C1/Aygo too.
@@loosenuts01 oh aye, I knew someone who got an old 00s panda that instantly died when she brought it home. But it had been stored in a field for months. I've loved my Panda, I like the C1 lot but they are too small for my taste tbh. They are zippy little things but I think the panda ekes it out due to the interior space.
Here almost 75% of delivery drivers has one of these as they're dead reliable. Always easy to make a profit on them as they often scrap them for a worn clutch that you can simply adjust and then sell it to the next one and make over 1250€ of profit. I can buy them very cheaply from the local scrapyard. If you give them a bit of TLC you can make more but it's mostly not worth the time. The engine though is very harsh and always present. Fuel economy amd reliability makes up for that though
Tbh, I don't mind the absence of sound deadening because I love listening to the engine revving out. Inline-3s have a sweet sound colour when revving, like a V6 cut in half! Plus, sound deadening doesn't do much when the road surface is coarse enough anyway. We also have a Mazda 6 GH with 225/45R17s and it isn't much better in that respect. Overall, the Toyota-PSA triplets are some fantastic little cars and I'm glad I found a good secondhand 2008 107! 💗😎

The ci 107 Aygo are fitted with a 3 cylinder Diahatsu vvti engine . Pretty much bullet proof to be fair as it's chain driven rather than timing belt . Very economical and cheap and cheerful
Hi theulsterscots, Thank you for watching & commenting. Great little engine. I do wish they had come out with a slightly tuned up version, but agreed they're bulletproof, I've heard of one reaching 180,000 miles due to its low state of tune. And the timing chain is a huge difference over the 106 actually, a little more money for all of that security, I know a couple of people who lost a 106 or Saxo to a split timing belt, sadly.
I driven this 1000 kmt from Bergen to Trondheim in Norway over the mountains, it have no problem doing that trip. The engine if change pols regulary, last wery long i think. My is only 120000 kmt and i think long way still to go. One thing is to treat it with anti rust oils under the body etc to ceap corrotion away.@@loosenuts01
My C1 has 202K on a 09 plate, a clutch at 95K the replacement is still there, as long as you maintain it, it will last, driving gently helps, update to android head unit but not a cheap one, the bad points very uncomfortable and noisey and you get bullied by the German tractors.
I've been learning in a black Peugeot 107 2011, It's quite a fun little car and doesn't look too bad in black. And honestly I'm prepared to put up with some of it's faults for that insurance quote and those cheap as chips running costs haha
Great to hear you're enjoying the car! Bet it looks a bit more aggressive and defined in black too! To be honest, as a first car it's perfect, easy to drive and the insurance is 👌!
@@loosenuts01 Yeah it's a very sensible choice for a first car, even though I could afford it I refuse to buy a better car and pay the obscene insurance! I appreciate you covering cars like this, also just curious what are your thoughts on the 208, specifically the ultra mpg blue HDI diesel models?
Too true. In my opinion the first 4-5 years insurance was the biggest factor. My first car was a Mk1 Ka which cost £210, but insurance was £1,030! I've actually driven the 1.6HDI a while ago and would say, while the Pug 107 is relatively slow 0-60, you can enjoy yourself at most speeds. The problem I had with the 208 was it's got a lot of weight to it and if you want to drive it in a fun way, its quite difficult. I also heard that the first generation 2011 onwards was plagued with quite a few mechanical issues, so something to keep an eye on if you do move over. That being said, storage wise or taking more than 2 people in the car at once, definitely hands down more practical than the 107, however, there are a wide range of great diesel cars, mainly from VW & it's sister brands, such as the Golf 1.6 BlueMotion or Skoda Fabia. Maybe a Japanese car if you're after more reliability but fewer mod-cons, such as a Mazda 2 or 3. That's the great and awful thing about cars, the choice is immense. And thank you for your kind words, I think there's definitely a large segment of smaller mainstream, less premium cars that are being missed from (what I hope is) a more fun focused car review. The aim is if I can keep getting a couple of weekends with these cars, to carry this on whenever possible, but do these alongside some additional car-related videos.
All cars have their faults, The main fault with these is only water can get into boot from the rear lights and air vents behind rear bumper, these are well documented on youtube by several people and are an easy fix, anything else is cheap and easy to repair, for the price just enjoy it and have fun, you find apart from M/ways other cars are holding you up, Have fun with it.
The 107 was on my shortlist along with the Hyundai i10 and the Skoda Citigo. I rejected the 107 because of the small boot. In the end I went for the Citigo. Purely because I have had a Skoda before.
Hi Aaron, Thank you for your comment. Agreed, it's a great little car for what it was built for, and very fun to drive, and glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks!
I even make a profit on this car as my company pays me €0,21 for every km commuted and the car costs me about €0,14 with all the gas, taxes, costs and maintenance.
i got the citreon c1 2012 took some time to get used to but now i love it! but downside is when your at work and drive a very selient car am so used to the noise XD
I've never been a huge fan of the 107/C1/Aygo, the 106/Saxo were way better imo, especially in terms of comfort (both cars are some of the most comfortable city cars ever, especially the Saxo).
Hi nétako, I totally agree with you there. The Saxo & 106 are great cars. Boot is much better, more models & engines available too. Only issue I had with the 106 was that the accelerator was tiny and I'd sometimes end up stamping on the side of the car when quick shifting. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Hi Josh, I'm glad that you're enjoying yours, how do you find the handling on the twists & turns? I honestly love flooring it around b roads roundabouts, it sticks so well for such a small car! To be honest, it does hold its own well, and isn't too bad on a motorway, much more refined than my old 2001 Fiesta that I used to drive 200+ motorway miles a week. I might be slightly biased as I've been spoilt with an Octavia VRS for the last year! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Is it really impossible to go on long distance trips in this car? Like 100-300km trips at least. Everyone is mentioning that it's not well suited for such trips, but in the past people have driven way worse cars
I used to own a Citroen C1, my only criticism would be the boot space, I found it to be too small, I’m sure the 106 has a bigger boot? Other than that I found the car to be adequate for my needs, I agree though it is a car intended for buzzing about town. PSA did offer a 1.4 Diesel in these initially as well but as there was little benefit from a frugality point of view at least they discontinued the Diesel version.
Hi Wills Wheels, 106 & C1 I believe have the exact same boot. I totally agree that it's tiny and needs to be bigger, but think for the weekly shop they've made it deep enough to work. Would be buggered with anything else though, suitcase for holiday, house moves ect. Thank you for your comment.
My friend has a 1.4hdi c1 the only time it’s more economical is on a run and they handle mileage a lot better. The 3 cylinder petrol although generally reliable just get rattly and smoky over 100k keep them topped up with fluids and they just keep going. Where the 1.4 hdi if serviced correctly can do big mileage this isn’t what this car is intended to do. My friends c1 1.4 hdi which replaced his 206 1.4 hdi currently on 260000miles still runs really sweet the car looks like it’s done the miles he’s had it from new. It’s know used as a second car and teach his kids to drive.
Hi Glyn, Thank you for taking the time to comment. I found a weird divide when I had a look. You can either find one with a huge number of miles/ripped seats/dents for about £500, or for a nice, low mileage example, you're looking in the multiple thousands! Surprisingly expensive.
I test drove one the other day. Liked the engine. The gearbox was awful. Couldnt work out if it was in gear😂 and very much like a shed. My vw up was so much better
Im going to buy this as my 1st car, compared to the golfs and vauxhallas and ford focus i was looking at... this car is way cheaper. Need to lower my pride for a few years

Road tax is ZERO on a BMW i3 and it beats your Focus for fuel cost too. But both of these cars have different costs for insurance, depreciation, parts etc. to the 107. Apples to oranges.
Hi Graham, Haha, I wrote 8.2p on my notes, but somehow didn't notice that I said 82p when recording! I've put a note at the top of the description to show the error & there should be a little label in the video stating the correct amount, oopsies! Thank you for watching & commenting :)
I would not bother, I purchased a very clean Peugeot 107 from a friend, 5 months use then the IMMO dies, to say it is a problem is the under statement of the year NEVER such trouble trying to sort one immobiliser module, so far with out a car for 2.5 months!! will never buy a Peugeot EVER again. Still have 16 months on a loan to pay it off !!!
No most depressing car I have ever driven too light blows around like a crisp packet in the wind, autoasthmatic gearbox, slow as treacle, cheap seats and cheep plastics
I have to agree, a Rolls Royse Silver Shadow is definitely more comfortable, nice leader seats etc.but.......slightly more costly on fuel, road-tax, insurance and maintenance. For 1 year of RR costs you can buy A citroen C1, and go everywhere a RR can go, and further.
A little info for you the engine is Daihatsu in origin and not Toyota also certain years are road tax free , but a good little film and it's not lacking in power if you're not looking for it it's very adequate and gathers speed very well also motorway driving is pretty good.
Hi Michael, First, thank you for watching & taking the time to comment. I wasn't actually aware of certain years being road-tax free, thank you for the insight there. It's funny, I used to drive a Daihatsu Sirion when I first passed, 1.3 litre, 105bhp, 4 wheel drive, which I believe was one of the last Daihatsu labelled engines exported to the UK. I was devastated to learn about Toyota taking over as they would stop selling them in the UK. Guess they're still exporting, just under their parent company.

It's the modern take on a VW Lupo, same strengths.🤔 (I've just got one) 🤣
That's sick

Great tip! Makes sense as just felt the metal around the arches/boot and it's thin as thin can be, thank you, and hope you enjoy yours.

I've not yet had the chance to drive one, but they look throwable & in a way quite similar to the Peugeot (minus the electronics/ABS).
Agreed, not many you could sell nowadays for a £1,000 profit, nice job.

Mine also now at 250.000 km❤

Very experienced driver here and I can tell you these cars are superb for many, many reasons.
I live in semi rural area, got an Aygo version. There's tons of them around here, when you have hills galore, you save so much on fuel.
I love this car! Everything you need to get to where you are going. Clean styling, and I really like the red color. Nice video.
Love mine (c1) with 234.000 km's on the clock
this is why I think the Fiat Panda is the perfect small car. It's got the same credentials as the C1/107/Aygo plus extra space, extra doors, more height and a slightly more revvy engine.
The C1/107/Aygo may be cheap, but has quality where it counts. The Panda doesn't.
The panda isn’t really that much more spacious, and isn’t as interesting
Wow that has a tiny interior! Looking forward to seeing what comes next
Thank you for the review. And agreed, wouldn't recommend if you ever need to transport something larger than the weekly shop!

Hi theulsterscots,
Thank you for watching & commenting.

I've been learning in a black Peugeot 107 2011,
It's quite a fun little car and doesn't look too bad in black.
Great review, earned a sub.
The 107 was on my shortlist along with the Hyundai i10 and the Skoda Citigo. I rejected the 107 because of the small boot. In the end I went for the Citigo. Purely because I have had a Skoda before.
My c1 code 2008 gave me whopping 65+ mpg i used toyota engine oil and serviced every year it was a high mileage at 146000 got for 500pound in 2021

i got the citreon c1 2012 took some time to get used to but now i love it! but downside is when your at work and drive a very selient car am so used to the noise XD
I've never been a huge fan of the 107/C1/Aygo, the 106/Saxo were way better imo, especially in terms of comfort (both cars are some of the most comfortable city cars ever, especially the Saxo).
Hi nétako,
I totally agree with you there. The Saxo & 106 are great cars. Boot is much better, more models & engines available too.
Only issue I had with the 106 was that the accelerator was tiny and I'd sometimes end up stamping on the side of the car when quick shifting.
Thank you for taking the time to comment.
i love mine spends a lot of time at 70 mph and it copes well
Hi Josh,
I'm glad that you're enjoying yours, how do you find the handling on the twists & turns? I honestly love flooring it around b roads roundabouts, it sticks so well for such a small car!
To be honest, it does hold its own well, and isn't too bad on a motorway, much more refined than my old 2001 Fiesta that I used to drive 200+ motorway miles a week.
I might be slightly biased as I've been spoilt with an Octavia VRS for the last year!

Hi Wills Wheels,
106 & C1 I believe have the exact same boot. I totally agree that it's tiny and needs to be bigger, but think for the weekly shop they've made it deep enough to work. Would be buggered with anything else though, suitcase for holiday, house moves ect.
