you guys, i'm 19 years old... but i was raised listening to this... the MAGIC of this song, the imagery, that girl that you all know... summer nights turn to separation by time... and you look back and you think about her... hopeing everything is wonderful... but you miss those times... that is effing MAGIC!
The reason The Boss puts on such a great show has less to do with his musical ability and singing, and has everything to do with the joy and love that goes into every performance. The guys have a blast on stage, and the audience gets to come to the party. We'll all miss Clarence, who was the soul of E-Street. Rest in peace, dude.
...yeah... if you can hear this song without getting all emotional.... then you just don't have a heart or you have never loved someone in your life... DAMN good song...
i was 17 yrs old cruising up and down the strip as it was called crankin this album repeatedly. And of course there was that one chick this song had a meaning for.
The person I wish could hear this song right now isn't here anymore. She kinda got me into Bruce in that she liked Born to Run, which made me curious and I became obsessed with him. Don't know if she ever heard this song though. Thanks Nikita, love Dave.
Well, Bobby Jean, as we know, is the story of a friendship lost (temporarily) when Steve Van Zandt left the Bruces band. Both of the two mothers were from Calabria, a region of southern Italy (now unfortunately famous for its mafia - called the "Ndrangheta" - which controls much of the cocaine around). In this song feels a strong bond of blood, which contains this common origin, mixed with the history of American "streets". Simply a Masterpiece....
The last line, "...not to change your mind, just to say I miss you babe, good luck, goodbye, Booby Jean", is one of my favourite and most poignent in all his songs.
@RutgersJRS My father was born a week before Danny and passed a few months after him of cancer. He loved this song, and now I cry every time I hear it.
I once read a critics' negative review of this song, and couldn't help thinking how dam' LUCKY the guy was for NOT being able to relate. For all those who ever blew a great chance beyond redemption, when all you can do is hand it off to the Big Man and pray for healing. Good night, Clarence Clemons. Godspeed.
I can't express it any better than the Boss did: ". with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band". RIP, BIG MAN
Every once in a while you hear a song that's complexity is so wrapped up in it's simplicity that it sticks with you forever. This is one of those songs. Everytime I hear it I feel a twinge of pain, for no one in particular and yet for all my lost loves in a way. Great song.
Bruce's lyrics on this song are truly great and moving and complimented so well by The Big Man's Sax solo at the end. I love Clarence's sax solos on any Bruce song, but this is by far my favorite...
Happy black man on the tambourine is what makes this this entire song for me. 2021 and you’re still flawlessly killing it sir. First time hearing and seeing this from bruce got here from downbound train.
I did too, like you. One of the best songs ever written about friendship... What a shock the first time, years ago! See you in Paris in June 2008, Brucie!
Someone sent me the link for Bobby Jean a couple of days ago. It reminds me of a guy I spent a lot of time with and was madly in love with during the early years of life. Life takes it's own direction over the years but some memories never fade.
I can close my eyes and remember August 9th 1985 Bruce Springsteen Concert Tour, Soldier Field, Chicago....My girlfriend and I listening to this song and so many more. This song is from the sound track that is my life.
Awwwww. This is my favourite song of ALL TIME and wouldn't be half as great as it is without The Big Man's contribution. So bummed out that he he's gone. :(
this song alwasy makes me think of my HS buddy, who died in our senior year. He was a huge Springsteen fan, and it's exactly the way I felt at the time and still do...I always wished I could have just said "good bye"...
"Just to say I miss you babe, Good Luck, Good Bye"... to all my friends in high school. We probably will not ever see each other again, but I Loved the times we spent together...I'll miss you... Best of Luck!!!
@fringer166 One of the greatest SOLOS ever, sax or not. Before I officially heard about Clarence today, I thought of this tune and that solo. When I heard the news, and turned on this tune, oh man.
"we told each other, that we were the wildest, the wildest things we´ve ever seen" this is soo absolutely great, what a feeling for life!! the glory days in life where everything was possible.
Damn Bruce writes some of the greatest music ever. His words are so much more better than I thought when I was younger. Means so much more now cause I have grown up
@RutgersJRS ALWAYS - I love this man too for over 30 years now - I cannot get enough of him ever - this always gives me that sadness but so do so many other songs of his if you think about it.
I have heard this song was dedicated to Steve Van Zandt! by Bruce when he left the E street Band during the recording of the album Born in the USA. But it applies perfectly today to Clarence Clemons! Buon Anima Clarence!!
@RutgersJRS sure do get sad when i hear this how could i not, i was 21 great car loads of girls no responsibilities lived life to the fullest ..... how could i not want to cry ? its a shame that 20 years later the world is a really changed place..... i would trade my life for just one more saturday night in an 80's summer.... see how much i cry ?
@arloz1064 Wow... your words are so eloquent. I could not have said it better. This song makes me think of my first love, she and I did not have any contact for almost 30 years, but everytime I head this song I thought of her. We recently got back in touch with each other and I tell her this was her song. It is what actually made me search her out and find her again. I am so glad that I did, this song is for MY Bobby Jean!! I'm glad you are back in my life!!
In the 70"s my Ex worked at the Record Museum in Philadelphia. He brought this album home one night and said I had to stop cooking and listen to it. We looked at each other and laughed, we were so amazed with the music. We were hooked. At the Tower Theatre new years eve 1975 we sat 4 rows from the stage. (His job always guaranteed good seats at any venue...yeah) At the end of the concert, the crowd just seemed to float out of the theatre in silence, totally speechless. We were done. Bruce had said all there was to say. It is the best concert I've ever attended. An unforgettable experience that I treasure to this day.. I don't hear him for a while then, like yesterday, I heard Bobby Jean playing in a local store and had to stop to listen as Bruce goes right to the heart, making the day so much better whenever and wherever I happen to be. Amazing! I feel happy just writing about it! It was years before he would be accepted for what he brings. I remember talking about him and people just not being able to "get into" him which for me seemed really odd as Bruce's music was so fantastic and incredibly moving to my husband and me.
Bruce is actually speaking of lead guitarist Steve Van Zandt, who abruptly quit the E Street Band in the early eighties and whom Bruce was buddies with, as the song says, since they were sixteen. Notice Steve is not in the group in the video.
This shit reminds me of my parents. I had a shitty childhood. Neither of my parents talk to me anymore and they both live close to me. These songs are the only good memories I have of them. I really, really wish I could have seen them play while Clarence was still alive. this got me right in the feels.
bellyovabeast Hey life is shit sometimes but like Bruce once sang, "I'll be there on time and I'll pay the cost For wanting things that can only be found In the darkness on the edge of town" Stand your ground. Keep the faith. Sometimes things and people don't work out. Life is isnt a fairytale. It doesn't make it any easier saying that but facing up to it does. Just know you are not the only out there going through that. There are people all over the world going through shit. Again, does doesn't make life easier saying that, but the internet brings us all closer.
I have been lucky over the (now many) years to have seen some of the best acts on the planet, probably in excess of 400 acts overall But nothing, and I mean nothing has come close to seeing The Boss live thanks for posting this, it's a really nice version
Descubri las canciones de Springsteen alla por el 80. Hoy 36 años despues me llenan la vida sus composiciones. Sus canciones. Su musica. Su vitalidad. Sin saberlo el....o tal vez si...cuanto amor ha causado en tanta gente. Thanks Bruce.
to this day still gets me so love this song as i was around 16 years old and had just such a friend and we did walk in the rain talking about our own world were we lived so loved her and a few years later we grew apart and was told she overdoses still breaks my heart miss you di.
The 1976-86 live album which i first heard in 1992 is life changing!!! Amazing music, but I have to say, he performed recently at Glastonbury and everyone who saw it said it was the most energtic performance ever, the man is an inspiration, this is the talent that record companies fail to produce, too busy with one hit wonders, no longetivity, rock on Bruce!!
Questo video e una reliquia... La presenza di big man col suo sax.. 😊😍😘🎶🎸🎶🎷💘❤️💋💯🍀
you guys, i'm 19 years old... but i was raised listening to this... the MAGIC of this song, the imagery, that girl that you all know... summer nights turn to separation by time... and you look back and you think about her... hopeing everything is wonderful... but you miss those times... that is effing MAGIC!
And in the blink of an eye you are 33.Time sure flies huh ? This song means even more as we get older.I was 16 when this album came out.56 now.
Its not actually about a girl, its about Steve Van Zandt.
Il boss è sempre il numero uno cantante senza tempo the best
...yeah... if you can hear this song without getting all emotional.... then you just don't have a heart or you have never loved someone in your life... DAMN good song...
This is the greatest song on this subject ever written.
this is a song about tolerance and liberty by a brilliant american songwriter...
if only all americans could see things this way....
i was 17 yrs old cruising up and down the strip as it was called crankin this album repeatedly. And of course there was that one chick this song had a meaning for.
For my dear Sharie Lambert 1949-1985.. Miss you love you.. Always will..
The person I wish could hear this song right now isn't here anymore. She kinda got me into Bruce in that she liked Born to Run, which made me curious and I became obsessed with him. Don't know if she ever heard this song though. Thanks Nikita, love Dave.
Best Sax solo.........ever!
Vive le Boss : cette chanson me donne des frissons à chaque fois que je l'entends !!!

We will never, ever see his like again. Rock and roll will truly die the day he departs this mortal coil.
Bruce just nails this song. One of my favorites. Takes me back to 12 years old with my ghetto blaster...

Good night, Clarence Clemons. Godspeed.
They don't, and never will, make them like the Big Man anymore. RIP
Yes a song for all the pain and lost love in your life....miss you baby LC
I can't express it any better than the Boss did: ". with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band". RIP, BIG MAN

Thanks Clarence for all the joy you shared with us!! RIP!

Love this song
Clarence was the best ... the big man... as Bruce said: "the only sax playin' quarterback i ever knew..." WE MISS YOU SIR! Godfather of Soul!
This song makes me all teary eyed, and especially now that the Big Man has passed on ... :( I'm sad.
Happy black man on the tambourine is what makes this this entire song for me. 2021 and you’re still flawlessly killing it sir. First time hearing and seeing this from bruce got here from downbound train.
1 of the best songs ever....rip big man!!
I did too, like you.
One of the best songs ever written about friendship...
What a shock the first time, years ago!
See you in Paris in June 2008, Brucie!
RIP "Big Man". You will forever be a part of my life. You had a style and grace that will never be duplicated.
Someone sent me the link for Bobby Jean a couple of days ago. It reminds me of a guy I spent a lot of time with and was madly in love with during the early years of life. Life takes it's own direction over the years but some memories never fade.

Awwwww. This is my favourite song of ALL TIME and wouldn't be half as great as it is without The Big Man's contribution. So bummed out that he he's gone. :(
In my top 10 of Bruce songs, amazing.
this song alwasy makes me think of my HS buddy, who died in our senior year. He was a huge Springsteen fan, and it's exactly the way I felt at the time and still do...I always wished I could have just said "good bye"...
プレーヤーが壊れていて、長いこと、レコードが聴けなかった。ソニーのディスクマンという、携帯用ノプレーヤーを買って、最初に買ったのが、このアルバムだった。懐かしい。
"Just to say I miss you babe, Good Luck, Good Bye"... to all my friends in high school. We probably will not ever see each other again, but I Loved the times we spent together...I'll miss you... Best of Luck!!!
Creci con este genio de la música, y hasta el día de hoy sigue siendo el mas grande de todos.
@fringer166 One of the greatest SOLOS ever, sax or not. Before I officially heard about Clarence today, I thought of this tune and that solo. When I heard the news, and turned on this tune, oh man.
I do think that this song is an athem to the friendship.
Everytime i hear it, i feel good.
So... thank you Boss.

Fan de lui depuis les années 1970. S'ils viennent a Montréal cette année, je vais voir son spectacle, c'est sûr et certain. LB 19-10-26
im glad that we got all the movies of the boss on youtube, when hes gone we need to remeber the goodthings about him.
One of those Springsteen songs that I listened to at the right time, and it just hit me like a rock. Such emotion and nostalgia. Amazing.
@arloz1064 Wow... your words are so eloquent. I could not have said it better. the solo by Clarence literally makes this song INCREDIBLE it takes a good song and makes it great.

@@chemostates4333 no, this song is from "Born in the USA"
@@stevenL4USorry, I was describing the Tower concert that we attended at the Tower Theatre 12/28/75.
The concert was shortly after his first album, Greetings from Asbury Park.
Bruce we all love you !! you are the best .. yesterday .. now and for ever...
Still love this song, after all these years. Big Man on the saxophone....doesn't get better than that! 🎷
RIP 😢
non ho mai sentito niente di simile.... è unico, è impossibile.... è bruce.....
Bruce is actually speaking of lead guitarist Steve Van Zandt, who abruptly quit the E Street Band in the early eighties and whom Bruce was buddies with, as the song says, since they were sixteen. Notice Steve is not in the group in the video.
My song to my sister Erin who moved to LA to follow her dream. She's doing great but I miss her every day.
Bobby Jean was a tribute to Little Steve. He was planning to leave the e street band after Born in the USA was released. The rest is history...
This shit reminds me of my parents. I had a shitty childhood. Neither of my parents talk to me anymore and they both live close to me. These songs are the only good memories I have of them.
