Every time I listen to Bruce's intro to this song, and then his epic rendition of arguably the most powerful ballad ever written, I can't help but get choked up and cry. Bruce's live rendition of "The River", and the intro to that song is equally powerful. In that intro, Bruce talks about the struggles between himself and his dad, and how their relationship was a difficult one.
I think a lot of people can relate to that, I know I can. I never really had a relationship with my dad in my teenage and adult years. He up and split after my parents divorced when I was 12 years old, and he'd show up once in a blue moon (I.E. every other year at best). My Ma and I, boy did we fight tooth and nail, just like Springsteen describes with his dad.
My Ma and I have reconciled, thank God, and I'm glad I can say I have a great mother. Not a lot people get to that point, ya know. Usually it's too late and the parent(s) die before bridges are mended. But my old man, well, last I heard he was down in Texas doing a garden variety of hard drugs such as Meth and heroin.
    Peace and love, yall! :-)

I’m a puertorrican born in the Philadelphia but raised here on the island. Probably most of my compatriots would stone me for saying this but this song is so beautiful it touches me (even more than our own patriotic songs) and it makes me feel I’m living in the wrong country. I’ve tried many times to make it in the states but always end up down here. The best memories I have are from the times I’ve been there. but it feels like the land that saw me come into this world don’t want anything to do with me. Hope has faded away but I always dream of America, and I’m always sad about it.
(Damn that almost sounds like a country song)

Well once I rode... that ribbon highway
I saw above me the endless sky
I saw below me a golden valley
Now this land was made for you and me
I roamed and l rambled, and I followed my footsteps
Through the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
It cried "this land was made for you and me"
Well the sun came shining... as I went strolling
Through the wheat fields waving and her dust clouds rolling
    And the bells were ringing
    As the fog was lifting
And I seen this land was made for you and me
One Sunday Morning, in the shadow of the steeple
by the relief office...I saw the people
and they were hungry, and they were wondering
if this land was made for you and me.
    This land is your land
    This land is my land
    From California
    To the New York island
    From the Redwood Forest
    To the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

With all my heart, and on behalf of every person from Europe who set foot on these shores beginning so long ago, I ask your forgiveness for what was done. I ask your forgiveness for the slaughter of 120 million human souls over the centuries. I ask your forgiveness for the resulting dissolution of an entire people. I ask your forgiveness for usurpation of a land cared for by your ancestors for more than ten millennia. Only love and compassion live in my heart for all, especially those wronged.

William, there is a HUGE difference between Socialism and Social Democrats, bear that in mind please. Social Democrats accept capitalism to the fullest. Socialism could lead easily to communism, whereas Social Democrats easily could lead to honest capitalism.

The irony that this song was created by an actual socialist yet fans of the song are here trying to destroy even a democratic socialist is palpable
