Yes and no: He was more scary in the sense that we were testing how far he would go, so that gray area knowing he can kill anything was scary. But now, we do now how far he HAS gone and that he is crazier by each season, so that is scary aswell. Maybe you could argue that seeing him in vulnerable moments or even in during his wierd submission sex fetish is what made him less scary, like Soldier Boy crying about his father or Stromfront being fried lol.
The same way homelander got scared after seeing SOLDIER BOY 🗿🥂

The boys is so effective at building the threat of Homelander, at first you are only scared for our protagonists as they seem less in the right than the superhero esk Homelander, but as time goes on and you learn how psychopathies he really is at heart then these extra little abilities he has that you know about adds to the tension, this is because Homelander is stronger physically in every way so the only way to beat him is outsmarting him but his senses means he always has control of information in any situation he’s in, this is similar to how he manipulates information to create his public image. All these factors combined and i still think he’d be an effective protagonist without his more physical abilities.
I wonder whether Translucent was afraid of what Homelander could do if he came to his rescue and saw him in this pathetic and humiliated state. I reckon there would be a reasonable chance that Homelander would just end up killing Translucent.

The hostages wouldn't matter as superman could easily remove them from homelander's possession or just ignore them and go straight for the kill.

They need to make use of Homelander's other powers, it seems they forgot he has xray vision and super hearing. Al he does now is use super strength and laser vision. For example, when Hueghie was in the vents, Homelander should be able to hear him move, or see through the vent to k ow where he's at, so he can laser him, but instead he just lasers blindly.

I think the show did a good job showing how unhinged Homelander is . I would say he’s definitely one of the best villains ever ( specifically the series version I don’t know enough about the comic version to say firmly). But not so good a job to imply how powerful he actually is . Like the whole debate about him and superman and etc seems like Homelander would obviously lose but have we seen the full extent of his power yet in the show ?

I’ve always found it great to see how imposing Antony Starr looks in the suit but it has rubber muscles lol. Hes far less frightening looking outside of the suit, and even then he’s still immensely dangerous.
