I've had great success with a 100 Liter barrel cut in half, especially for rats. In one spot, I actually managed to catch 4 rats in one night with that setup and I think that the quicksand trap is really easy to use and efficient. However, I stopped using it some time ago, as I find it unethical to let the rats drown.
That was actually how our mom execute the mice that walked into our mouse cage. Instead of flushing them down the toilet alive, she hangs the metal cage over the fire, then bury the corpse later.

I have built traps similar to this in a 5 gallon bucket. I don't think you need the pearlite as I just used a layer of sunflower seeds and they float all by themselves.

Diseases carried by mice include, but are not limited to, the following: Bubonic plague, Salmonella, Murine Typhus (typhus transmitted from mice via flea bite), Leptospirosis, Lymphocytic Chorio-meningitis (LCM), Rat-bite Fever - Fatal in 10 percent of untreated cases. Usually contracted from rats, but infection can also occur from mice, Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), Tapeworms and Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS). So if you snowflakes want them in your home, have at it. But... I wouldn't use this trap; one can want them dead (or out in nature where they belong) without wanting them to suffer.

I'm sorry. There is a difference between letting an animal die a slow and painful death by drowning it and making it quick and painless. Conventional mouse traps, while not something I agree with, are very quick and cause no pain. I honestly think this product is disgusting and brutal.

I love how 60k people disliked this but they are ok with an exterminator coming by and using poison they sometimes kills cats, dogs and other animals that get into the poison.

In my country drowning traps are banned because it causes unnecessary pain and distress. I happen to agree, as I think drowning traps are needlessly inhumane. There are faster ways to kill mice and rats.
@@Mega-P71 there actually are alot more effective ways. Bigger mice tend to avoid falling in and after a while they learn to stay away. Glue traps and the normal way of killing them cause a lot less suffering and get the job done just fine. My uncle used to have these in his house and it worked about the same as all his other mouse traps, but it was simply more painful for the mouse
I purchased a cat, but it stopped working after a couple weeks. After some research I determined cats require access to water and "cat food" for continued operation. Always research your pest control method before purchase.

@@Mega-P71 there actually are alot more effective ways. Bigger mice tend to avoid falling in and after a while they learn to stay away. Glue traps and the normal way of killing them cause a lot less suffering and get the job done just fine. My uncle used to have these in his house and it worked about the same as all his other mouse traps, but it was simply more painful for the mouse
I have the greatest trap of all, its called a Cat. 100% effective all the time ;)
