I remember I used to have a tiny half a gallon bowl for my betta fish… but once I found this channel it really helped me understand how big a fish tank really has to be… now my betta is living in a 15 gallon tank with a filter and heater :)

@@yuzusuwu1574 I have one in a 20L and it definitely needs more space. They are super active fish. For a group of 3 I personally wouldn’t go below a 50, but 75 or larger would be better. They can get up to 12 inches long and they use every square millimeter of space you give em :) hopefully one day you can get them!!! They are awesome fishies :)

The new marble pothos I bought is so pretty, it made a catfish jump out of the river near my house and flop right onto my deck! Guess that’s what I get by living next to the water. 🙊

My betta: Peace was never an option
There was a little diddle catfish, with one little broken fin, lived inside a dirty fishbowl until Chris took him in.
He was placed inside a fish pond, with temperature control, and a thousand filtered gallons with no barf gravel at all.
Now the little diddle catfish, with his little broken fin, lives underneath a pothos and has lots of room to swim.
He's so very very happy, and he diddles all the day, but he's lonely by himself so add some friends below to stay!
Rediscovering your videos got me to "rediscover" my aquarium :) I'm in the process of setting it up again, buying the things I need when I can. Eventually it'll be something cool, I'm sure.

Hey guys, I've had a really bad day. My cat (best friend of 7 years) was put down this morning. I want to make a tank in her honor because fish tanks seem to cheer me up. I want to stock it with ember tetras because she always seemed to love looking at them. Not going for pity points just wanted to vent a little bit😢

I am so sorry to hear that. I cannot imagine losing my dog (I have only had her for 2 years). I have a 10 gallon with 10 ember tetras and 2 nerite snails and have enjoyed them more than any other fish! good luck with your fish tank plans:)

It's illegal to own an alligator without a permit + you need a conservation permit along with the right enclosure, so this person could be arrested!!

@@soph_f16 its like that even here in New Orleans and surrounding parishes(counties) and its uhhh Louisiana the state reptile is the gator. This one guy i knew had the cops do a no knock kick in his door warrant because he had a 4 foot gator. His bond was 10k dollars. Thats really high!! He had a small bit of pot so the bond for that was like 1k dollars.
I hate seeing people put fish in bowls and thinking they are happy, like bruh, that's the same as shoving a child in a closet and saying "They are happy and healthy!" And whats even worse is that most social media, movies, and tv shows, promote and encourage over-stocking, bowls, and irresponsable care, instead of promoting proper care and housing.

and with episode 100 of FTR, I'm very glad I found this channel, it was the first of many fish and aquascape related channels I would go on to follow. Thanks to series like this I went from keeping a betta that didn't last very long because the living conditions weren't quite suitable, to keeping a large and heavily planted tank of guppies and cherry shrimp that are absolutely thriving. And with more tanks being planned for future builds. Cheers love, here's to many more episodes~

I just found your videos not too long ago and love them. I own a small tank but want to understand fish tanks more before I go full aquarium mode.
I redesigned my entire tank from artificial plants and pebbles, to an all black gravel planted tank because of your videos 💚 and it looks so much better!! Still want to get some floater plants to combat some algae I'm now dealing with
back in high-school, my biology teacher had a big, nasty, old tank/terrarium thing. big tank with plants and a fake river going through it, basically. it was pretty rancid. when the class would go down to the river to see the river life, if someone caught something substantial in a net, the teacher would bring it back to the tank. he would say things like "lets see how long it takes for it to die" and the class was pretty thoroughly weirded out.
after a couple weeks of putting small river life in the tank and then never seeing them again, someone asked where all the critters kept going. the teacher walked over to the tank, reached in, and grabbed a little snapping turtle out of the tank. he said that a year ago a student caught it in the river and they put it in the tank, and its been living there ever since. the glass of the tank was too scratched up and foggy to ever see the little guy.
as far as i know the turtle is still there, though probably a little bigger. i just hope the teacher cleaned that tank eventually.
One of my friend's sister had a betta in a tiny vase with a plant inside of it, the roots taking up most of the swimming space. She said,
"Oh, she got a blue one this time."
THIS PERSON BOUGHT A NEW BETTA EVERY MONTH. And neither of them there was anything wrong with that. Sigh. I explained to her how that was way too small, and she said she'd tell her sister. Later she told me her sister thought I was wrong.

my ex had their betta in a freaking mason jar stuffed with plastic plants when i first met them. that fish was so unhappy, he could only swim in about three inches of water and his fins were all ripped up. it took me so long to convince them the fish needed more room. they got a tiny fish bowl because it was the cheapest. i was pissed.
