    Id recommend keeping the low sluices and then another row up top, then you still hace the ability to release during drought

      Yep keep the low sluices for sure! To conserve resources right now just one at the top will do. The volume coming out of one looked sufficient to keep the river running, and everything alive.

      He could have deleted one dam to save those potatoes! And of course put in a sluice for future drought releases.

    55:11 There is an option for sluice gates to open at x height behind or in-front of them.
    Set one sluice gate to open whenever there is only clean water behind it
    Set the other two to open when there is good water and it is higher than 3.75 units.
    That way the dam will release water downstream slowly, fill up after a drought and not overflow during a good tide
    Just need to put the discharge in in case of bad tide

    What I like to do is to have sluice's on the bottom and then floodgates towards the top of the reservoir. You can then use the sluice gates to allow water to flow when the reservoir is below the floodgates, but you need water downstream. For me, while the sluice gates are nice, I still enjoy having the variable flow control of the floodgates. I then add another barrier to the side or back of the reservoir with sluice gates at the bottom that are set to close when the water behind it is clean, and open when there is contaminated water, so as soon as you start getting badtide water, the sluice gates on the drainage side open, and the ones leading to your main water supply close. I also build floodgates on the drainage side higher up in case I need to allow for greater flow, such as at the end of the badtide, to help remove all of the built up bad water. If that all makes sense anyway.

    One warehouse of raw potatoes is worth four warehouses of baked potatoes. As long as you can cook them faster than you can eat them (a requirement regardless), there is no need to store baked potatoes. Just make sure you have a supply of wood to keep the ovens fired.

    34:30 sluice option close relative to downstream depth ... I now see a blue square where the lands on exiting the sluice ... I guess that is the location it measures water depth .

    I would say that even if you want to keep it near the ruins, you could place the smelter on the plateau on the bottom left corner of the image in this moment, so you can use the water from the source as a more reliable power source.

      That's a good long term strategy! The hight of the current dam is good for now, but it would be good to choose a higher reservoir level

    56:58 but the water still looks like it is 2d. The way water goes downward, it floods the block before actually falling on the block. & a easy sign is that the water still glitches through diagonal levees.
    I think this is because it is experimental Version & they are still developing the water physics.

  • @Wirdoboy
    @Wirdoboy หลายเดือนก่อน

    hej jc. you could always just remove the 3 levee at the top and replace them with the sluce gates. and leave the 3 at second height so in case of evaporation of in need on an emergency water dropping you can can open those up to get more water in for your beavers. nothing bad in having emergency water access.

    I like to have sluce gates at the bottom and dam or floodgates at the top. If downstream is a lake, you can set the height level of the lake, and it will be kept at that level as long as you have water in the reservoir. This will not work here because you have a waterfall downstream.

  • @MrImmortalityPrince
    @MrImmortalityPrince หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The sluice gate is far more versatile than the dam and flood gate combined. So keeping em where the episode ended is fine vs putting up high like flood gates or dams

  • @FlyingFox86
    @FlyingFox86 หลายเดือนก่อน

    7:10 Did something change with carrots in the experimental update? Because last I checked, one tile of carrots gives you 3 carrots, not 1. That means carrots give you more food per tile than potatoes, 3 every 4 days versus 4 every 6 days.
    I standardize food production in units. A carrot plot of 72 tiles is enough to feed 18 beavers and have some left over for storage. For potatoes, you need 81 to get the same amount of food, for another 18 beavers. If I remember correctly, spadderdock and chestnuts also need 72, while wheat and cattails need 36.
    That means that as I build housing, I build a new standardized plot (72, 81 or 36) for every two 9-beaver lodges.

    One block in-front of the water sources put a line of sluice gates
    From the top of the sluice gates create an aqueduct with the overhangs, that is the top surface of the overhang should be at the top of the sluice gate so that good water goes under the aqueduct
    Channel the aqueduct out towards the other bad source to make an industrial area

  • @shaunacarnline
    @shaunacarnline หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would put sluice gates on the top of the big dam to retain more good water also you could put water pumps near the water sources that could go relatively deep especially if you put some long overhangs so the pumps can reach the lower water.

    • @shaunacarnline
      @shaunacarnline หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also the reason they were not building the stairs in front of the dam is because you have two stairs right beside each other, there is no room for a path so they can’t even get to it.

    Be given a HAMMER and you'll see everything as a NAIL. The U6 buildings and features are not to be used anywhere and everywhere.
    Trying to put sluices and overhangs while you're low on food, water and population will just make the whole process slower way more complicated.

    • @JCTheBeard
      @JCTheBeard  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm trying (often unsuccessfully) to find a balance between getting to the fun new stuff before people get bored of watching the same early game stuff, and also making sure things don't _completely_ implode in the process. Some people have said I'm going too fast, others have said I'm going too slow. One thing I try very hard not to do is go back and edit out mistakes, and I avoid do-overs when something goes horribly wrong. I know it is probably frustrating to watch if you're used to more polished and edited-down videos, or if you are better at managing the gameplay than I am.
      I thank you for giving my videos a shot and appreciate you taking the time to offer this honest, thoughtful and constructive feedback. For me, trying and failing new things in this game is a really fun and effective way to learn new mechanics. And when viewers help with good feedback, it makes the process better for everyone because we can all pool our knowledge and thought processes to learn together. Thank you!
      Things should get much better in the next episode! 😄
