That was electrics. Not changing the valve head, right? So utter waste of time

Had one of these 2 port valves stuck in the "on" position but after removing the head I could easily move the spindle with my fingers, so it seems as though some part of the head mechanism is/was jamming. Followed these steps exactly to replace the faulty valve head. Love the 5 way connectors - great idea - bought some and used them for this. Problem solved in less than half an hour including getting tools out and tidying up.
I can see an electrician's point of view that this "should be easy" or that plumbers should know how to "do it properly", but for a DIYer, this is a great technique, especially as you may (as I did) inherit a messy box of wires that you have no intention of understanding.
Following this video turned my problem from yet-another-callout + parts and labour into something I could trivially do myself. Thanks!

Nice work James. You should always do safe isolation and prove dead as you never know when you could get a reverse feed on the neutral or the signal wires. If you are going to use several of those 5 way Plug/Sockect arrangement it is worth labeling them. Also worth getting the 6 way mandrel version of that crimper.
Keep the good work and Hold Tight

Thanks for the vid. Unfortunately I had one that was so old the actuator was permanently attached to the valve so I had to replace the whole thing. Turned off all the stopcocks and taps I could see that would supply the valve, unfortunately still had a lot of water coming out, but its all cleaned up now. Used LS-X leak sealer on all the copper compression fittings which worked great.
Did really like the tip for the wire connector and it worked great, although one day I do want to replace the awful wiring centre with one of those nice organised wago boxes designed for it
    Now got working heating again!

Amazing plugs, i always keep a couple on me van. Just makes life easier, especially at the end of a boiler install when you find out that the valve is shot and gotta change it.

Great idea, although might want to confirm there's no mains voltage with a voltage detector pen before chopping through the cable.⚡

Thanks so much for this video. My 2 Way Motor Valve replaced in 20 minutes 😊.
Competent DIY'er, but electrics scare the hell out of me! ............ and how the hell am I 48 years old and never owned a pair of wire strippers before? Awesome!

After seeing a wiring centre like that I wouldn’t suggest doing any further work on it with out changing it. If you don’t know how to wire an s plan should you really be going the work? Wago even make wiring centres now so is there really an excuse? Good video as always

Hi there, looks like we have similar heating/hot water system Y plan ( i think) as we have a 3 way mid-position motorised valve and also have the same hot water termostat, (both located in our loft space) however we have another 2 way motorised valve just by the hot water cylinder and also a second hot water thermostat on the hot water cylinder, the 2 way valve was starting to make a loud noise (all times), so i replaced it, bought the same as the old, and replaced it, the issue i noticed was with the wiring, in the terminal box we have 3 wirings ( one is the water temperature thermostat, then a wire from the programmer, and the 2 way valve) when i remover the cover i seen the the brown, blue and the earth wire form the programmer and water thermostat connected together, but from the 2 way valve was only the blue and earth connected together with the programmer and hot water thermostat, and the brown from the 2 way valve was connected alone in the terminal box. the orange and gray wasn't connected anywhere, both were blanked, ( my question is that why the brown cable is in the terminal box if not connected together with the browns from the programmer and hot water thermostat.) any advice#?

In most cases James there’s no need to even do that, just replace the burnt out synchronous motor in the head of the valve. Easy job.😊 oh and “don’t forget to hold tight”

When the valves go it’s usually the motor or most often the relay so I just change them. The relays are often under rated so I fit a higher rated one, and after that they don’t fail. I guess it’s manufacturers saving on pennies. I am trained in electronics though.

For some reasons I got 6 wires instead of 5. Orange, grey, blue, brown, green/yellow and white. Should I not care about white? This is connected to nest switch.

We had a chap attend our boiler a few days ago. He asked us to dispose of his rubbish. I was curious what had been in the wee poly bag. It was exactly the connector that you feature.
I wonder if he had watched your video earlier?
    P.S. Wanna new brass 2-way valve? 😅

The Honeywell V4043H1056 has Blue going to the synchro motor, along with Brown. Given my 'unhinged sense of order', I think it logical that Brown is in position 3 (next to Blue), and Orange and Grey are in positions 1 and 2.
All-in-all, I guess it does not matter what goes where, as long as the other side matches.
NB I absolutely agree that these plugs should be mandatory/compulsory. A plumber can get these for £10 trade price. Considering the valves will die countless times over the systems lifetime, this are so obvious (although it is generally the synchro motor burning out, which are easily replaced).
(IMO the Regin part could not be more cheaply made, and very overpriced. The cable retention is just nasty. That said, haven't spotted an alternative.)

I love and subscribe to your channel. I've done nvq level 2 electric and one day will do plumbing. I didn't like this video.. sorry. You didn't show , even for 1 minute taking of old head, how to make sure you connect it correctly to make sure water is pumped in right direction. If you connect wrong way round water is pumped other way as motor turns other way in a synchronous motor I think?. Love all your videos but not this one.😢. I'm looking to do this as I'm in middle of changing head and even though I've done it before I'm nervous..and wife is worried I'll damage the system and this video didn't help. I have loads of wago and box with loads of cable glands to make sure box is waterproof even . Don't need £10 box .

It does not show how to replace heads but rather how to re-wire them with fancy connectors. Dislike
