- India Air Force’s depleting squadron strength continues to cause concern. It’s an issue that the IAF has flagged repeatedly in the past, without a time-bound solution in place. With the slippages in LCA Tejas production, the chasm between the desired capability and available resources is becoming difficult to manage. What is worrying is that such shortages are not limited to availability of fighter aircraft alone, but extends to refuellers, AWACS, data links, communications, SDRs and other areas. The requirement is to commit more resources and enhance production facilities.
The future too does not look too bright. The proposed Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft or AMCA is at least a decade away. India needs induct platforms keeping in view current and mid-term requirements. Parallelly, the IAF has to focus on our weapon systems, and other related issues.
According to Air Vice Marshal Anil Golani (retd), himself a fighter pilot and now Director General of the Centre for Air Power Studies or CAPS, feels the best way out is to incentivise induction of private players. Companies like Tata are already part of the global supply chain in the Aerospace Sector. More competitors are required to get the best results. The private sector’s role need not be limited to production alone, but be extended to cover research and development, also.
He pointed out that one major shortcoming is the lack of India’s own aero engine.
The big Indian advantage is the availability of high-quality manpower that could enhance IAF’s pace of progress. Notwithstanding the deficiencies of the IAF, foreign air forces are opting to train and exercise with the IAF, AVM Golani pointed out, which he said was a major plus point. Tune in to watch this discussion between Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale AVM Golani.

Relying on American GE engines as Tejas' powerplant was the single biggest gaffe of the entire 30+ year LCA program. #Kiss-Injure
If you think the TEJAS has been delayed because of GE engine then HAL is taking you for a ride. GE is just one of the problems not the only problem
What else was the option? You want the frontline IAF pilots waiting for their jets?
@@sidahmedabadThis is a smokescreen from PSUs and their fans to deflect blame from their incompetence. Easier to blame a foreign bogey even when the Tejas program is delayed by 2 decades and the engines have been delayed by 20 months..🙄
@@Alpha-Cheeno The final contenders were the EJ200 and GE404. EJ200 is extremely reliable and only lost out on price..Snecma was never in the race. Also no firm will part with its core engine tech, never.
@@Alpha-Cheeno Their reliability and maintenance issues primarily. The Russian engines had a shorter lifecycle with a higher maintenance..
From the outset ...each and every airforce chief who have retired till now has said...that all the domestic programs are in parallel with purchase of foreign jet...
LCA Mk1 IOC---FOC---LCA MK1A ---LCA MK2---AMCA
this is the order no matter what...in domastic programs...
MRFA AND FGFA are our PPP models...for foreign fighter procurement...this should be clear for each n every one before criticizing...and yes purchasing of FGFA has become top priority now... because of our northern neighbour... atleast 1sq of Su-57...for now
India's small scale industries are highly capable and talented, if HAL and DRDO approach them with money they will come out with good solutions. Unfortunately only clumsy large scale players are entertained in the defence sector.😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
@Nitin and DG India cannot depend on US and GE. They are the new East India company. India should develop Kaveri Engine and go all out...5 billion is minimum. They should also go with SAFRAN and or Russian AL41 or AL31 engine and try to design Tejas around it. They need to allocate upto 15 Billion all together for this project. INdia should bite the bullet and DO IT!!!
What nonsense? It was HAL that selected GE not the other way round. So you’re okay with one foreign OEM not the other! What a logic sir. Do remember one thing, no nation will give away the core engine IP..
@@srikanth85in Hey..stop that Nonsense BS ok? GE broke all the agreements citing supply chain issues. I am on top of the situation and following this closely. Yes definitely Safran and Russian engines should be on top of the list. If you dont like this...that means you are a paid mouth piece with a closed mind. Good thing you are not the decision maker.
@@srikanth85in you are nonsense. What he says make perfect sense. India has to keep an open mind and look for other options besides GE. And yes..the 5-15 billion sounds about right. What is the use of having 600 billion is Fed reserve if you cannot even allocate 5-15 billion for IAF fighter program?
@ Paid mouthpiece?? Grow up a pair lol..Did GE delay the initial Tejas delivery by 16 years? The delay you’re referring to is MK1a.. Know your facts first..
@@TheSanju400 Are you high? It was HAL that selected GE instead of EJ200. So the decision makers knew fully well. And the engine delays for MK1a by 20 months.. What about the initial 40 Tejas for which the engines have already been procured? Those were the ones the air chief was referring to..
The days of 4.5 plus generation air craft for air dominance are long gone. Without an effective fifth gen platform, the air force is at the mercy of enemy.
since I was a little kid, I have been hearing about IAF's diff phase. The problem is all these retired idiots who did shit when they were in power and now these morons are criticizing.
I fully agree that intense participation of Pvt Defence Industries should be given by the Defence Ministry. Adani TATA Kalyani Group L&T are capable of delivering.
See how the US does from Pvt Defence Industries then only we will be truly Atmanirbhar Bharat. We have to try and recruit Indian Origin Aerospace Engineers in DRDO GTRE or IITians any Pvt Defence Industries.
Jai Hind Jai Bharat 🇮🇳
They need to run multiple aircraft engine programs...not just Kaveri. And get Aeronautical and Air Frame and power plant engineers from abroad who can do this if India does not have enough talent.
If ISRO can get cryogenic engines and many things, why can the best from all sectors be pulled together and team be put to task….?
You should also bring Industry Captains to this debate. This debate has been going on for decades and not much has changed. We always call the "user" to the table but never call the "provider" and the "enablers" to understand their view points/bottlenecks
Since its inception, the Kaveri engine has been given 2034 core RUPEES in total, that is around $250 million. Is this really the path to develop an indigenous engine? China has spent over $10 billion dollars on their engines in the last 3 decades. It’s utterly shameful to expect the Kaveri engine to compete with foreign competitors, it’s like trying to develop a Ferrari with the budget of a Maruti 800.
I hope Mr Nitin Gokale will be appointed as the future R&D chief of HAL to develop india’s 6 th generation fighter
The private co. Unfortunately the private entrepreneurs do not have interest in getting into such a huge and risking business. Once Mahindra wished to come in aerospace sector….so is in ship building sectors….
Private companies should start with gliders lol
Too complex.. Should start with bamboo-paper kites.
"I have a query regarding other aspects of aircraft technology besides aircraft engines. What other parts of aircraft technology do we have?"
Use Al 31engine and develop tedbf or other fighter plane based on It.
IAF and HAL find 101 ways to put off the indegenisation program. HAL is only capable of licence manufacturing.
Which private player will build a production line for just 20 aircrafts.
Nobody will bid for it.
Good analysis 🎉🎉🎉
Where is the problem? As it appears the present government seems to be going all out. Why not put your specific suggestions to defence minister or prime minister themselves or do u think the IAF decision making process requires change….?
Air v chief ne Metro chief ka example deya !? 😢😅...
Dr.Somnath ka statement yaad Karen " Hum Rocket engine bana sakte hai , Jet Engine v bana sakte hain " asa hi kuch..
Persently ISRO chief Mr. Narayanan cryogenic engine ke master hai..
DRDO ko prestige issue chor ker ISRO ke sath taiup kerna chaheye...
Dhanyawad Nitin ji Sawal aap ka valuable tha per Jabab..!?
😮With due respect Sir, assuming the govt.before 2014 was neglecting IAF needs a lot was expected from Modi govt. The half hearted approach of G2G deal of 36 rafales.Blunder of repeat of mrca joke.Unfortunate arm twisting in F404 leading Tejas to darkroom. There has been very long delay in transport, air fuelers, awacs, & indecision. No accountability of concerned all officials& leadership. What is seen as no light at the long tunnel end.At least in few to meet urgent needs procure shamelessly 2nd hand mirages& mig 29, su30 off the shelf & continue with UR fantastic RnD & procurement process parallely. Even Modi govt. is acting in very slow motion even after only 11 years maybe another 10 years are needed to wake up. Better stop expecting just relax.
What are the private cos can take up the fighters, helicopters, transport planes….as Chine did initially through Reverse Engineering…
Even china also faced this same engine problem for their aerospace sector before
But China works hard and solve problems.
endian only talk-talk-talk poop-poop-poop cry-cry-cry scream-scream-scream
And the Chinese are still struggling to reverse engineer the old saturn Russian engine.
@@lopetta4077 Have you been living under a rock for the last 10 years?
China has WS-15 fitted in their J-20 now.
By the way, do you still use a pager?
@SengpoSatbang lol is that what the Chinese news papers tell you lad ??? This is what happens when you live under a communist regime. Their jet engines are nothing but shooting ducks in the sky and are terrible, they cannot even reverse engineer the old saturn engine. 😂😂😂😂😂
Anything is possible. If you haven't done it yet then it is your fault. I don't see these guys pointing out faults which can be corrected. They keep saying we can do it but how the heck that is helpful to anybody.
Also IAF is not in good hands. If they were then why are they in such dire situation?
We are literally begging to Russia for the past 9 months to provide us a slot to test the engine. We need to invest heavily in test bed and high altitude testing facility.
We can allocate money to buy drones from General electronics why not invest first in our own testing facility. Without our own engines keep begging to Russia or Usa for TOT once they say no, then take a flight to France and beg them for tech transfer.
a simple solution to India's air force from a keyboard warrior :
1.Pause all Aerospace projects (except ISRO)
2.Make sure the talent doesn't escape
3.Hire an Independent group of people as consultants and review the current state and way forward ( dont hire BIG4 or some govt babu)
4.Stop all ladli behen ,DEI schemes ,increase anti corruption raids .not GST not Income tax
5.Fund a complete end to end Aero engines R and D complex fresh not under MoD or HAL
5.Address the reports and action items and act accordingly
6.Get a single competent person to be accountable for running the action items .
Just one Dude ,not many people who will do passing the parcel kitty party.
We have got enough cash .GST collection itslef is in lakhs of crores and corruption bribes too. Neither govt babu nor Airforce Officer class or military officer class wants to spear head change. All advise for it but none action on it.
bye.
Swagat hai Aur Spàdex mission ki sucessful hone ke Badhai.
ISRO private party ko help ker v raha hai Help le raha , DRDO ki achivements bemishal hain, per Ghum fir ker baat KAVERI per attack jati hai..DRDO cf.ka bayan 5 b$ chahiye aur time aleg se,..per afsos unhone copratiom ki baat nahi ki...
All indian aerospace projects blocked only one reason no proper engine, and no proper engine because no proper testing faccilities, no flying test bed, no high altitude testing, because govt only interested in its chair and hate politics and saving adani
Stupid comment
Ask IAF what they need n supply them. Dont impose on them ghatiya make in india. Or IAF will mean Indian Abhinandan Force. Dushman ke hato Pita hua.

Wo engine abhi slots ka wait kar rahai hai, next available slot 8 mahine bad hain. Slot milne ke bad hi testing start ho paye ga.
Huh??? Why can't endia test its own engine?
DRDO IS MAKING ROAD ROLLER TO MATCH BOX AND HAL IS MAKING UNDERWARE TO FIGHTER AIRCRAFT...ITS BECOMING UNBEARABLE 😅
