For what it's worth, I love this version. I guess it's a good sign for Lorde that there's alot of strong opinions in the comments because Phil Collins himself attracts a lot of hate for his artistry as well. Lorde has said that she grew up listening to Collins and likes his music.
It requires you to set up a gated reverb to get the sound Phil Collins got (Collins is the person that basically invented the technique with drums on accident). Likely this drummer did not do the research thus the lack of snap, or perhaps a recording limitation. To my understanding the C-78 was used as background rhythm all the heaving drumming is Collins on drums but the drums mic-ed with a gated reverb, which is to say they are miced on a compressed mic going through a noise gate making them snap- buts still real drums.

Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord
Well I remember, I remember don't worry
How could I ever forget
It's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep this silence up
No you don't fool me
The hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord
