I watch A LOT of different "learn how to play" videos, but yours are ALWAYS the ones that I pick up the most from. Thanks for everything you've done to advance my skills and add to my repertoire. You lay things out clearly and make it simple.
Every time I pick up my guitar and head over to youtube to learn something new I discover that Marty has put up another of my favorite songs. No one can teach like Marty he is a Hero to amateur guitarists around the world. Keep up the awesome work
Hi Marty , my name is Ron and I would feel terribly rude if I did not take the time to thank you for this video. I picked it up in no time I am gonna check out some others you have up here. Very cool of you dude two thumbs up to you have a great day !!!
Every time i'm looking for a song lesson I'm praying for him to appear and there he is again. It's a miracle he's not out of songs to explain yet. Very helpful video, thanks bro
Thanks Marty you're the best teacher on TH-cam. Your lessons are so so approachable and intuitive and even though you're awesome at guitar I enjoy that you don't put up a front
Marty thank you for putting these videos out for us who dont wanna try to take lessons from some boring person in a class. I tried this song from tabs and things sounded good but didnt understand the changes soo i checked you out and in 5 mins learned the changes n now we a rockin on brotha!!! thanks my friend!
Marty you are so.......helpful. You the way you break down every part whether it be a song or a theory into such easy learning aspects thank you so much for all the (FREE) tips you help all us guitar players with. I've been playing for 15 plus years now and the way you break down everything and go step by step is really helpfull.
At the end of each chord progression of the verse when you come back to the Dm, you can hammer-on then pull-off your pinky finger in the 3rd fret on the high E string, then take your index finger off the E and play Dm with an open E string immediately followed by the regular Dm for the little riff at the end of each chord progression which is in the song.
***** On the final Dm of the verse progression (Dm, F, C, Dm) you can do a quick little lick on the high E string, it's in the song. He does a hammer-on/pull-off with his pinky finger to the 3rd fret from the 1st, then immediately after he plays Dm open or you can hammer on the 1st from open. I can try and tab it out, so Dm, F, C, then... (Strum a few) and repeat. Dm (Lick) 1 1 1 1 1h3p1 0 (or hammer-on 1st) 3 3 3 3 3 3 2 2 2 2 2 2 The lick itself is very quick and happens during the strumming, so it doesn't have to be super precise, but it adds dimension to the verse (and it is part of the song).
The moment I got interested in guitar music I found this guy... I am so greatful :) Yesterday I ordered my first guitar and I can't wait to learn it with this great teacher
hey man i just wanna give u props on teaching such full and detailed lessons, not only that but u make it look easy and u really make it easy for us too. thx for one of a lot of songs uve taught me.
Having a little trouble getting the strumming pattern down but sides that am grateful for this tutorial because this is one of my most favorite songs!!
Oh my gosh! You are amazing, and such a good teacher. I learnt this song in like 15 minutes, thank you so much! And my dad is going to be so blown away, he is such an everlast fan, thanks again. You ROCK!!!!
Excellent for beginners....even though on many harder to play songs you find a way to cheat around the harder chords making the actual song incorrect you still have great tutorials for those just starting out.
Thanks bro, its simple stuff like this and others you offer that keeps an old beginner like me interested and able to change it up to keep practicing longer.
Marty SOS !!! please put together a video for third eye blind never let you go ! I've been looking all over for it and can't find a single thing! such a fun song and I think a lot of people would enjoy it !
Marty, youre my favorite online youtube guitar lesson dudeski. you rock brova scotia! thank you for all your video man, im a performing musician and i used to do vids, and that shit takes longer than people might assume. keep rockin brotha!!!!
Mr. Marty...thanks for the help!! I appreciate the efforts and like your attitude you seem like a cool guy. Making the world a better place one bad guitarist turned good at a time!
Marty is the main reason I can play as well as I do, which isn't expert, but I am impressed, and so are others. To have had NO OTHER real instruction, I have progressed nicely...THANKS to MARTY! {{{{{{{{hugggg}}}}}}}}}}}} for Marty! ;D
The "up/down" part is the strumming pattern. When he says 'up', you pull your hand against the strings up towards yourself, and when he says 'down,' you strum down against the strings towards the floor.
Hey Marty- thank you SO much for SLOWING D O W N your playing so i can see & hear exactly what is happening!!! Question: what kind of F chord is that? It looks easy. I thought F was a bar chord?
thankz for yet another awsome video, it was MUCH HELP!!!!! thankz for sharin ur endless guitar knowledge & talent music is the GREATEST GIFT peace n love brotha~
Question; and I know im breaking the rules of commenting without looking like an idiot but IDC. How the HELL could you dislike this o_O Marty is one of the BEST teachers ive seen on youtube seriously.
diggin it these videos are totally helpful in learning to play my guitar my new found love! lol
10 ปีที่แล้ว +1
best tutorials ever Marty, thx for the help! but you should have explained the stoking pattern better and the letters you put in the videos are not complete!(?? :P) took me a while to figure out the combination between the pattern and the rythm (where are the pauses and so on)
hi, i just had to tell you that this is a awesome tutorial, and many thx for posting it! now i'm going to try and tackle it,, and then chack out your channel, greetz from the netherlands !
hey marty great vid it cleared up some stuff for me. when you talk in your video you explain everything right and its easy to get. In the verse part when you go over the strum pattern, you got the count wrong in the letters you added to the video. You explain it write but the diagramming you did was wrong (i think?)
@Thisway2Norway you need to build your calus', I 've been playin about 8 years now, when I started playing I worked at a BBQ joint and every once and a while I would run my fingertips down the grill(not recomended) lol just find your on way to toughen your fingertips other than the strings on your guitar and you'll be pain free in no time, but remember...no pain no gain! hope this helps.
Woohoo! After months of practice I finally got the acoustic pinky pull-off consistently plucking . Make sure to allow your pinky to rise as your doing a pull off. Your not pulling down and away, but going up and away. Think of how your right hand plucks, it's the same principle with the pull off.
you don't have to play the Dm chord all the way through, just the first 4 single notes then finger pick- then the pull off note- then grab the F7- then the C....i saw him live and that's how he did it. reduces the likelyhood of nubbing the note on the high E string first fret while holding the Dm chord. Also adds a bit more vibe too it. works great.....
Hey! long time listener, playin a year now and learnt most of what i know from you so a huge thanks while i'm here, but the reason i write is wondering if you could do a tutorial on santa monica by theory of a deadman? not for beginners, more for intermediate, with the harmonics and stuff. be great if you could show that one. Thanks again Marty!
Marty, I have been able to realy improve on my guitar playing because of your great vidoes! I have a request how about 'Fly' or 'Every Morning' by Surgar Ray. They guitar parts sound awesome.
i died at "pinky time" omg i would shit myself if marty commented on my comment. Either way if you read this you rock marty, thanks for all the help and fun!
