    One of the best ways to save money is to not spend it! The next time you're debating on buying something, remember this: for a $20 meal you get in the US, you can get five meals or more in another country (depends on the currency rate). Another method I used? I limited how much I spent per day. For example: if you set a $600 US cap on your monthly spending (excluding the rent), your daily spending would be $20. If your daily spending is $30, then your monthly spending is $900. Depending on how you want to save, you can adjust accordingly. You don't necessarily have to save A TON of money to travel. Your money can go a long way in another country! Look up currency rates and average cost of living to find out where. There are so many details to share! Should I make a blog post? Let me know.
    Hope you guys find this video helpful. Many still ask how I make money. I mentioned in previous videos and live streams, but I understand many viewers don't have time to watch every video :) Most of my income comes from TH-cam. As you may know, it is not the most stable source of revenue (sometimes TH-cam will demonetize videos suddenly and their changing algorithms are out of our hands). To expand sources of revenue, I've also set up a merch shop and am part of the Amazon Affiliate Program. I also do food photography on the side, which I really enjoy and would love to do more of!
    Saving money is a lifestyle change. As you see in the comment section, some will call you a "tightarse" along this process. Are they paying for your travels and other financial goals? I didn't think so. If you want to make your dreams a reality, you'll have to make certain sacrifices and create new habits. It can be a challenge, but also very rewarding! Try to surround yourself with supportive people. They will help make your journey more enjoyable.
    Also, saving money doesn't always equate to being stingy. You can still be giving. Rather than buy another jacket for yourself when you already have one that's perfectly fine, you can use the money for your close friend's birthday gift. Saving money is doesn't mean depriving yourself. After all, who are you saving the money for? YOU :)

      I need advice. I want to go to Korea so badly I'm saving up, spending less etc. But, I am currently under 18 years of age and if i was to go i'd have to go with my whole family and that would limit my freedom when I do eventually go and no one else inmy family wants to go to Korea. Any advice for me?

    You mentioned "Making meals at home" quickly, but I'd like to emphasize that point. We can all save one heck of a lot of money by eating at home, and preparing meals at home that we bring with us. And in most cases, it's a lot healthier than eating highly processed, prepared foods. Then multiply; we're typically eating three times each day, plus snacks. Over time that adds up quickly.

    It's weird, but I save money by never spending change or $5 bills that come into my possession. I put them in a bank. It's funny how it adds up.

    Its hard to say NO, but I've taught myself how to do it. it was a process, since everything i see, i want. Maybe to the people who thinks that its hard to do it, it will be at first, its not easy. As i grew as a person, I've noticed that its not hard to say NO after all.

    After years of being in debt (credit cards, car loans, IRS) I stumbled across Dave Ramsey’s method of getting out of debt (really wish I had found this 20 years earlier). His method works exactly as designed and in 4 years I am now completely out of debt and it is very true that staying out of debt is the key to saving money. Many of the things you have in this video exactly mirror Dave’s advice; be frugal (especially with entertainment), budget (and stick to it and as he says “make every dollar count”), make extra money with a “side hustle” (delivering pizzas, turn a hobby into a business, etc.), avoid impulse buying, in other words “live like no one else so later you can live like no one else”. I am now retired and have sufficient in social security and some investments and can handle all expenses easily with a little left over, my wife (who is Chinese) is also very attuned to saving plus she works in a massage spa and all her money goes into savings. After 15 years of traveling internationally for work (mostly in Asia) we are looking forward to getting back out there.

    You nailed it!!👏🏼 I do believe though everyone should not live with their parents ( long-term) to save money because I’ve seen people assume they have financial back-up. You’re such a good daughter when you mentioned that you don’t like coming home too late because you don’t want your parents to worry.

      I can relate to FOMO. Though after you've been to a couple drinking parties, they start feeling like similar experiences. Some people really enjoy these parties and good for them! I do enjoy them on occasion. Just not on a regular basis. Sometimes I'd rather curl up with a good book or catch up on TH-cam videos :)

Maybe if you took a second to think about people who can’t afford to do that or have bad spending habits, you would know why they ask about money. A variety of tips are given in this video to help viewers figure out what they can do to also travel often. Understanding and having empathy are two great traits to have! My tip to you.

    Good tips! I went through my bank statements a few weeks ago and realized my boyfriend and I spend ATLEAST $600 on eating out in 1 month and another $300 on unnecessary purchases. That’s $900 a month we could’ve been saving to travel! It was a real eye opener for us.

    fab vid and great advice. I do these things in order to be able to live in two different countries. One of them requires at least 6 months of residence in it (out of any 12 months) in order to be granted the right to live there legally and the other one is where my parents are. So... when I'm home it's free rent and opportunity to save money, sure, but also lovely to be able to spend time with my folks as they are getting old. Glad I can also help them out with different things when I am home, like admin stuff, some fixing around the flat, decluttering, and relieving my Mum from cooking for a while :) I am a freelancer, so that works with my job too

    What kind of friends do you have that all they want to do is party? My friends and I meet at each other’s houses or just go to a cafe, grab a coffee and talk for hours and hours. We rarely spend money on getting wasted when what we actually want to do is catch up.

    Well late in the game, but got to say I love your honesty, tips I can recommend is putting the money in a high saving account which give you like 1.70% interested now which is not much, but it will help your money grow a little bit. Also Uber or lift can help you make some extra money, just make sure to keep all your expenses listed for your taxes the next year.

    Don’t ever go to school to become a designer. It’s cost a fortunate to be a designer. All my paychecks went to buying fabrics and sewing notions. I wish I can save a lot of money to travel!! For now school is taking over my money.

    You are so right. Living with parents is restricting in certain respects . But the financial gain is worth it. I dropped out of college a few years ago but now ive returned part time, I've passed my exams and I'm progressing to second year. Being able to live at home without to much expense has been a lifeline. Paying to put a car on the road and paying for rent as well I couldn't afford it on my current wage . I certainly wouldn't have traveled as much as I did or as much as I plan to.

    I drove cabs , 12 hours a day , 7 days a week . You only have time to sleep and no time to spend . The money piles up fast . Then onto a plane and away . Then you can work overseas as well to extend your travel into years .

    You had me up until the "move in with your parents" part. I would say that's definitely not really an option for a good chunk of people (especially those of us pushing, or past 30). It's often more accepted in a lot of Asian cultures, but I know at this point in my life, if I tried that, my parents would definitely not want that (unless I was in some sort of crisis). Not knocking you, or anyone else who does live at home though!
    That being said, the rest of your points are spot on! I also travel a lot as well. Moved from Canada, to Germany because I wanted to experience Europe. Got a Visa, a job with vacation and traveled to 25 countries in Europe within 2 years. Recently, my girlfriend and I packed up and moved to Vietnam to do the same in Asia. KEY POINTS, as you said...minimal spending on frivolous things, work hard and save harder! 😉💪👍

    Another great way to save money that doesn't take much thought and effort is saving all of your change. I have a teacup on my dresser that I empty my pockets into when I come home from work. Once the teacup is full, I separate everything into individual jars. When those are full, I roll all of it and take it to the bank. Side note: don't let the rolls pile up and finally take $350 worth of quarters into the bank. I did that once and everyone stopped what they were doing to stare at me.

    What I’ve been doing is pulling $100 from my paychecks and putting it aside as money that I’ll never touch. So when I do travel whatever money I’ve pulled go toward traveling expenses and such. And all the money I get back from my tax return will also go toward that.
    Another thing I’ve been doing is if I have a bad day or a bad experience at work, I’ll put a dollar into a jar and I do this for the year.

    Thank you for this. I cancelled all my subscriptions just now because i want to travel! Starting now I am saving. Where is the cheapest place to start out traveling? Where are the best places for travel? How would you rank them? The most exciting places?

    • @ima7333
      @ima7333 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rena Hi, I’m probably too old to reply but where’s the most exciting place for you? I’m from Indonesia and went to college in US that open my eyes to learn that most Americans my age (18 at the time) had never step foot outside of their own state let alone the country. You should start by figuring out what you like and what you’re looking for in traveling. Mina has figured out that she wants to do TH-cam and share all her travel with us. It means that she’s more passionate about seeing the sights, eating the food and experiencing the different cultures. Not everybody kind of thing. If you live in northern part of US, even a trip across the border to Canada can be exciting.

    I am on vacation right now in Phuket, Thailand and it is pricey for a tourist location. It is almost to what I pay in the states.

      There are places in Bangkok where your dollar will really stretchhhhhhhhhhh! Enjoy beautiful Phuket nonetheless :)

      Miss Mina I am skipping Bangkok, but I just arrived to Chiang Mai from Phuket. I am loving this place more than Phuket. Food here is amazing and the locals are so friendly. Thailand is definitely a cultural shock for me since I live in the states, specifically California. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the 17 hour flight from SF International to Thailand.
      Thanks

    What if I'm buying stuff to support TH-camrs like you? The struggle haha. I don't party but I can't not attend a friend's birthday party. It only happens once a year. And then there are Christmas presents. I'm working part time and taking 6 college classes. What more can I do? I want to go to Korea, but as a college student, I'm barely holding up. I wish money would just rain down on us haha

    • @MissMinaOh
      @MissMinaOh  7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Raining money sounds fantastic haha. How kind of you to support us TH-camrs! But we also want you to be a happy viewer :) Working while attending college is a challenge. I've had a taste of that myself. On one hand, you want to focus on studies, but also want to be financially free to do things you want! I know it can be frustrating. While everyone's path in life varies (ie: college major, career choice, etc), your income will rise with age and experience, generally speaking. Although the current situation may seem long and never-ending, it will end as nothing lasts forever! Another phase/chapter in life begins. Learn what you can now and you just might find today's life lessons to help you in the future years to come :)

      When it comes to gifts, thrifting is an awesome way to save money and save things from going to landfill! You can also find great deals for events, treatments, and restaurants on sites like Groupon if you want to save money on going out :)

    I want to spend 4 or 5 months in Asia next summer traveling and attending a language school .I'm saving money now. OH!!!!! A tip to save money open a bank account and have money direct deposited from your paycheck to this bank account, but DO NOT get a bank card to this account to get the money you have to physically go to the bank to withdraw money. This is how I paid for my first real vacation to Hawaii when I was 22.
