Cool Video Keep up the good Work !
Mike you have hit hard. Amen
Agreed 100%
Mike 💯 %😉👍
Couldn't agree more
I was the first person in my family to get a 4 year degree. I took a year off after high school to work and save. I chose an affordable state college, went to the cheaper satellite branch for most of it, and continued to work throughout college. I graduated with honors and no debt. I’m not responsible for other people’s poor decisions- this is all insane
Sounds similar to me. Took summer courses and graduated in 3.5 years from engineering school. Then lived at home for about 18 months to pay all my loans off and save for a down payment on a house. Took a job near my home town instead of moving to some dream job.
My daughter did like wise !
Yes, it can be done !
Well said!
Went in the military and served in Iraq to get the GI Bill
Another question is if you do take on debt, is the degree program you are in going to get a high enough paying job when you graduate that you can pay off the debt on time or earlier?
Couldn't agree with you more. Rewarding irresponsibility is nuts!
One aspect of some of these student loans is that the loans were locked in at 6.8’/, and not allowed to be refinanced. Some ratted were higher, but I remember this amount from discussions with one daughter who had more than 50 K in loans. This aspect of not being allowed to be re-financed should also be changed.
Some idiot (not me) signed and agreed to the loan. Not my fault!
You make good points Mike. That's why we are always encouraged to write our congressman. What gets me about some people is, they complain and complain about the "other" parties benefits by saying we can't afford this and we can't afford that and yet, they proceed to take advantage of those very benefits that they complain about, and this applies to both parties. Here's a great example, how many Republicans and Democrats said, "Oh no, I'm not going to accept the $1,200. stimulus checks. I'm going to send it back to the government because we can't afford it." By the way, as you may know this was done by Trump and Biden. What a bunch of hypocrites we are.
You described this perfectly!!! Your exactly correct. The truth is what the truth is and you nailed it. Much respect for tellin it like it is!!! Can’t wait for more!!! Keep up the great work!!!
I agree with you. If the gov’t wants to be in the student loan business, then the college/university should be required to co-sign on the loan. I think we’d see tuition rates start to come down.
Ooooohhh !! I like this idea. Have the colleges be the co-signer, instead of the parents !!!
Good idea. The University should have some skin in the game. I doubt they would co sign loans for useless degrees. Too bad our politicians couldn’t come up with this creative themselves.
Very well stated!!! I agree with you, on the trade area, I am in the trades, bought all my tools, equipment with sweat and tears working for it.
Well said Mike. My wife and I both worked full time for fifty years since age sixteen and graduated from high school. We both still drive twenty year old vehicles. Blue Ford and high boy bring back fond memories. Neither one of us attended college but our daughter was the first one in our family to graduate from college. We helped her as much as we could but she also worked part time during the summer to help with all her expenses. She was able to earn her masters degree and is currently a teacher working with special need students. She and her husband recently purchased a home and we also loaned them the down payment. They have never missed a payment. People need to take responsibility for their choices in life. I look forward to viewing your videos. Hope all is well with you and your entire family. Tell Hunter we said hi.
I have a 4 year degree. Total costs was $10k. I graduated in 1995. My mom worked as a nurse making $12 an hour, dad was an electrician making $13 an hour for a combined $50k a year. They paid for everything. That same degree today at the same school is $80k. To keep the debt ratio the same parents would need to make $400k combined today. I have a job in the field I chose and I am doing well, but I would never pay $80k to go to school to get the job I have. As you stated the cost of college has far outpaced inflation and it is not worth it.
SPOT ON! I had this exact conversation with a buddy and have the same conclusion...get government out of loaning any amount of money to anybody.
I worked in the College system in Ontario, and you are so right Mike. We prepared students to go into the Heavy Equipment Industry, it was a program that was a internship and they worked in the industry to achieve their diploma. To forgive loan would not teach young people anything, they have to be responsible for the decisions they make .
Thank you for a common sense approach to the problem.
I love when a person has facts to back their arguments. Great job
Hi Tom I’m Maria from LA. How are you doing 😊
I agree with the analysis, Mike. ANOTHER factor is that once colleges accepted and promoted government student loans (or government-backed student loans) the government started dictating what programs and policies schools had to follow in order for their students to be eligible.
Much (but certainly not all) of the cost increase went to fund government mandated programs. These programs have a rapidly growing tribe of Vice Presidents, Associate Vice Presidents, Deans, Program Directors, Associate Directors, and the numerous staff they manage.
At one school I am familiar with the total salaries and overhead of these programs exceeds the cost of traditional instruction (i.e., faculty salaries). If you looked at the organization chart of most colleges and universities you might be tempted to ask, "Where are the teachers?"
Amen brother. I worked a day job and a night job to pay for my education. Somehow, we have lost what this country is all about. Think about this which a friend just sent to me "Once in a while we just have to stand back in awe of our government…… The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever - to 46 million people.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Dept. of Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves." Or our senator in Washington state is running a current political ad "we are going to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S., increase wages, and lower prices". I guess she did not attend econ 101!
Hi Mike! Thanks for the video! I agree with your thoughts on this matter. My wife twice put herself through nursing school, once for her LPN second for her RN. She worked the entire time to pay off the loans while attending school full time! Your right too much government!
Thanks to your wife for all she does as an RN/LPN. They're the ones out there working all the hours with little to no support from anyone and the work they do is often grueling and long hours. The nurses that took care of my grandmother, and mom at their end of life time were amazing. The nurses that took care of my grandfather after his broken hip last year were awesome too. I honestly don't know how they do it, on their feet pretty much all day, sometimes no time to stop for a snack or lunch. Its awesome what they can do.
Mike, thank you for taking the time to put common sense into the airwaves on this subject! I am right there with you!
Waaaayyy back in 1977, I couldn't get a loan because my parents had to co-sign and they made too much money. I only went one year and then went into the trades as an electrician. Bought and paid for all my own tools through out the years. I really hate that we the people are going to have to pay for their degrees they can't use.
Your economic opportunity in 1977 was disproportionately greater than it is [for young people] now.
@@blanksender7808 You have got to be kidding me... you are exactly the type that says you are not making a "living wage". I see economic opportunity everywhere! I see people make $10-20k a month (or more) for creating videos on TH-cam, that didn't exist in '77. If you want to learn how to do almost anything, you can look it up online, that didn't exist in '77. The trades (electricians, plumbers, machinists, welders) all make really good money, but guess what, they require hard work. I wish I was younger, I could easily make a great living without much financial investment because of the "opportunities" that exist today!
@@blanksender7808 you can leave now pal.
@@blanksender7808 Things we’re great in 1977, I just finished building my own house with my own two hands, paid 9.25% interest and then got laid off. Today there are help wanted signs everywhere but many don’t want to work.
@@blanksender7808 There are more job openings in 2022 than people to fill them, please explain! Maybe you can get tuition reimbursement to send you to an economics class. Oh wait, never mind!
Hi Mike,
I am an avid follower of your channel. Although I’m old enough to be your father I see much of my Dad and his Dad in you and your work ethics. When I grew up in Lexington MA in the 60’s it was common for folks to go hunting, trapping and fishing in our and neighboring towns. I swear Grampy could catch brook trout in streams so small I couldn’t even find water.
My Grandfather was a landscaper, and my Dad a machinist, but my parents determined that I was to be the first in my family to go to college. Actually Dad graduated from Northeastern University with an associate degree (going nights) and we have a photo of him in cap and gown, surrounded with his five kids. To my folks it was imperative that I go to a university directly after high school, and I did.
In 1970 the instate tuition for U. Mass. was $125 per semester plus room and board. I was able to work during the summer and with grants and my folks help in 1974 I graduated w/out any debt. Fortunately for me I was able to find a job after graduation. I was able to move my girlfriend/fiancée/wife up to Massachusetts and she enrolled in the Northeastern University work/study program and was also able to graduate w/out any student debt.
Looking back at 50 years of history I feel sorry for the children and parents who fell into the trap of a college degree at any cost will be your ticket to the future. My wife and I feel strongly that ‘Loan Forgiveness’ is not the answer, but perhaps the usurious rates may need to be forgiven and the original balances, borrowed in naivete, must still be repaid. Everyone should feel responsible for their debts.
This is a fresh perspective. The original loan costs are not within reach for average 4-year college students. The interest on top of the loan drives the total up astronomically. Forgiveness of the interest while payment of the original loan amount would be a better proposition. Checks and balances need to be put in place to prevent this from happening anymore.
Spot on. Thanks for the soapbox talk,I can’t wait for the next knee jerk reaction. Since the government wants to regulate everything, maybe they should regulate tuition and stock or personal investments on Congress. Our kids kids will never see the government debt paid off. It feels like they want us to be good soldiers and do what they tell us. It’s truly frustrating.
Yes Mr. Mike you are correct. And if anybody doesn't like it let em go! My daughter made student loans to go through tech school, she's a medical assistant. Been working for 18 years and makes a good wage. She paid her loans back before they were final due. Actually 3 years early. This just plain pisses her off and I don't blame her. Did I mention when she started working she kinda had a liberal mindset. After 18 years of work and 1 child her mindset sits red and on the right. AMAZING.
Usually, I watch your videos as soon as they come out, but I put off watching this video due to the title. Having watched your channel for the past three years, I could guess what your opinion would be on this issue, and I don't like feeling conflicted with those I respect. However, after watching your video, I realized our thoughts on the subject are not that far apart. I would only add that student debt is a $1.75 trillion millstone around the neck of our economic engine. Due to the debt, people are postponing buying houses, starting businesses, and having families. I think freeing up the spending potential of those "forgiven" dollars will pay back many times the cost in economic activity and tax revenue. I also agree that not addressing the underlying problems that cause the debt in the first place is shortsighted.
And with all the "free everything" attitude nowadays, houses (and everything else) is inflated to compensate for all that extra free money floating around. Under this idiotic program you can make $150k and qualify. Therefore, a kid (making minimum wage) straight out of high school will pay down your debt. That's insane! Now, in the form of EXTRA taxes and higher EVERYTHING, that kid will never afford his own home, but I bet the $150k forgiveness recipient has one. NEWS FLASH JEFF! inflation is caused by too much extra money floating around. You have it all backwards. Did you graduate with a liberal economics degree? Your post screams you did. Where's the common sense?
I worked at night and went to school in daytime. Student loan forgiveness is VOTE BUYING AND WEALTH DISTRIBUTION!!!!
100 percent correct my friend. I preached this Sunday morning. A complete disaster. We are teaching our youth to never be accountable. Very sad
You’re 100% right! When are you going to run for office from my district? I’m with you…we need more responsible people like you advising our youth!
I agree with you completely!!! It really is scary that kids are growing up without a taste of reality in their lives. You can be proud of the way you both raised your kids. Keep the great videos coming.
Reality is that its all bullshit
Amen, Mike and Melissa, I totally agree with your summary of the current situation !! I want to know where ALL thi$ money is coming from .......?
Where do u place the blame for the kids growing up without any sense of reality ?
@@mariombrbovic8188 The blame is on my generation.
They parents
Hi Mike. I think the problem is this, there's an awful lot of people out here that love to "school" content creators but get very upset to be schooled by them. I did not perceive your "stop sign" video as a talking-down-to. I just thought it was hilarious. I can see, however, that one of the aforementioned viewers of what is essentially free entertainment might take offense. For every one of them there's a hundred of us who appreciate all of the hard work and creativity that you and Melissa put into these videos. Thanks for your sense of humor.
Hi Dominick how are you doing😊
@@mariarusso1325 I'm doing well, how are you?
@@domatan8441 I’m doing good too handsome. Nice to meet you here 😊
You are 100% correct in your assessment of the debt forgiveness program
It’s incredibly idiotic as well as unfair the all the people who struggled to repay their debt. I’ve been watching you for 1 1/2 years and always enjoy it. I’m glad to hear your opinion on some of these social issues.
More or less idiotic than the orange mans 2.2T program that brought us the highly exploited PPP loan program? Or did you already forget about that?
What has happened to this great nation? I graduated high school ranked by GPA at 426 out of 428 students. Sadly the two lower than me were "Special Ed Students". When I approached high school graduation in 1978 my dad put it to me directly. Get a job or get out! I wasn't very much into school so I joined the Army. I spent 3 years in the service. After that I got out and paid my way thru a computer vocational technical school for 12 months. I got a great job and had six kids along the way. Any of them that went to any higher education after high school my wife and I paid cash for each of those educations. Out of those six, one graduated from college with a Nursing degree, one has a masters degree in Social Work, one has an Electrical Utilities Technology degree (Electrical Line Man paid for by First Energy), one spent 8 years in the Army National Guard and has worked for Pepsi Corp. making a lot of money, and the other two are homemakers raising my beautiful grandchildren the way they should be raised. Not one government dollar has been been spent by me or one of my children!
Loved your thinking. You may want to send a copy of this video to your Senator in PA. It could end up in Washigton DC, to help Congress make the right decision on student loans. Bravo!
While I can't watch the entire video as the topic is infuriating to me, your summary analysis of debt transfer is 100% correct. Additionally, in 2 years, the student debt will be right back to ~$2T...so what's the point? It's timed as an effort to impact the mid-term elections. Period.
How exactly does the balance transfer to you and how is it any different than what orange man did with his $2.2t "bailout" anything?
@@blanksender7808 have you ever had an original thought 💭? Any moron can repeat Slo Joe’s talking points.
@@blanksender7808 let’s take a look at the Payroll Protection Plan where all the businesses loans were forgiven.
Exactly. Why should my tax dollars go to pay someone else's kid's school debt while I'm trying to save something for my own kid's college? Congress never even had a say in this.
The covid business "loans" were designed to convert to grants from three start.
100% damn skippy!!!
I totally agree with everything you said, Mike! Especially: "I think the government stuck their nose where it doesn't belong" When have they ever done that? 🤔 😂😂
Amen Mike! Many of us feel exactly the same way.
I’ve been a lurker, but just hit the subscribe button.
I enjoy your mixture of video content, and have no issues you genuinely venting on the few political topics that really get your blood pressure up.
Student loan forgiveness will impact 43 MILLION borrowers. They should all know how much pure contempt the GOP has for them.
AMEN Mike Morgan! Thank you for saying what has needed to be said!
Totally agree with you Mike!
Normalize Sending Kids to Trade Schools after High School without Making them feel like they're Less than 4-Year University Kids! 👍
Nobody talks about forgiving Trade School debt because they all learned a useful skill and can pay their own way. 👍
You are right on Mike! Good job explaining how you see it. Keep up the good videos coming!
Loved the video Mike, we are definitely like minded! They’re also forgiving college debt because they know they’re going to be in trouble in November and they’re trying to buy votes!
You got it right, Authur$$$$$$ buying the young vote!
Arthur, you stole my thunder… I was just going to make the same point.
They already have dead people voting!! I guess a few more votes won't hurt!!
I totally agree with you! I had to repay the loans to start my business, Are they going to write a check? I don't think so.
Thank you…..I agree. I got my college degree and payed for it by working and serving my country in the Army. I finished my degree under the Educational GI Bill. There should be NO bail out.
Mike, I agree 100% with your take on this whole student loan quote forgiveness deal. I'm a baby boomer who worked my whole life and who paid every nickel for my college education by myself by working my way through college. We as a society are not holding our young people to the same standard. It is a shame! Bill H from Cranberry township
Mike you hit the nail on the head.
100% with you Mike.
I just have a couple of questions for you all --
1. The GI Bill is mentioned in this thread -- How is this taxpayer-funded program different than the current loan forgiveness? (... not to mention the taxpayer-funded medical benefit that is known as the Veterans Affairs, which sure seems a lot like socialized healthcare to me.)
Much of my extended family (including father and brother) chose to enter the US Armed Forces after high school, and a number of them took advantage of the GI Bill. I did not, but went to college when it was much affordable, which it is not the case today.
2. Would you rather have the a democratic country like the USA populated by of college-educated citizens? Is that a priority for a government and its citizenry?
The difference between the two programs is that the men and women that have benefited from the GI Bill have done so because they served their Country and took the risk of making the ultimate sacrifice for this great Country!
Spot on. All of it. Couldn’t have said it any better. It’s amazing to me how few people understand what’s happening. Thanks for educating people. CNN and MSNBC should show your video because their audience is who needs the lesson.
The best I’ve heard is a proposal that universities have to forgive student debts if the student is unable to get a job from the degree the university offered. I think that would help prevent the $150,000 education in Underwater Basket Weaving. 🙄
Thanks Mike for sharing your thoughts on this. I couldn't agree with you more!!!
Mike, I stand behind you 110%. I went to college back in 1964 to 1969 and paid for my bills by working my way through school while attending classes. Once I graduated in 69, uncle Sam decided it was time to draft me into the Army; so, out the door went my hard work and into Vietnam went my a$$. Once I got out of the Service, I got a job with IBM and I completed a 39 1/2 career before I retired. My wife and I have two children who are both making a life for themselves. I do not believe in freeloaders and I believe that all loan dodgers should have to go into the military for 6 years before they get any loan forgiveness. US blue-collar workers keep getting screwed while little miss or mister freeloader get a freeride.
@john klenzak Your story is really hard to hear and I applaud you on your perseverance. The government kidnapped you to fight in a war and we should be doing more to make sure nobody can ever be drafted again. Having said that I'll tell you my story for context. I graduated high-school and joined the Marine Corps to get the GI bill and save money for college. Then when I was finally able to get back to school in my late 30's I was told that my GI bill had expired. So I ended up having to take far more in loans than I ever would have if I hadn't trusted the government in the first place. Now since I graduated college I've paid about $20k in interest on those loans. If they want to cut me a break on what I still owe then I'm going to take it without any guilt.
After highschool I went to work at a steel mill, got my union card then enlisted into the army and went to Vietnam. Did my three years got out and went back to work at the steel mill. Decided to go to college on the GI Bill and worked nights at the steel mill. Attended a community college at first then transferred to a four year college. I went to school for six years and got two four degrees (finance-accounting) and a two year degree in economics. Stayed at the steel mill for 32 years and used my degrees for side jobs .
John and Jim,
Respect and damned proud of you all!
Although I worked summers and two part time jobs while in school, I graduated in 1970 with $6,000.00 in student debt. Worked hard to repay loan without any loan forgiveness. Think I'll apply and see what happens.
Hi William I’m Maria from LA. How are you doing 😊
You are disqualified. You were responsible.
BRAVO! You are a responsible person, you have raised your children to be responsible people, you have worked hard to get to the level of financial security you have, yet you continue to invest wisely in equipment, seek out business opportunities, etc. Like you, I spent almost 3 years of my life pre-paying for tuition assistance: in the US Army to EARN my GI Educational benefits. Then I ran out of GI Bill money before finishing my MBA, so I obtained a student loan for $5,000.00, which was the minimum loan amount, payable at $60.00 per month for about 5 years. I paid back every dime plus the interest. So, WHY DON'T THE BIG SPENDERS GIVE ME MY 3 YEARS, OF ARMY TIME BACK (which included 1 year in Vietnam with people trying to kill me) AND give me back my student loan money, including interest? Because the BIG SPENDERS are simply buying votes. "IT AIN'T RIGHT!"
I paid back all $100,000 of my student loans. Early, thanks. Guess I got my degrees too early because now I could have been forgiven 🤷♂️. Ridiculous.
Wish i didn't pay my 90k back in 2018 i feel like jumpin off a bridge just a 1/4 of that would save me and my family now. This is insane talk about a zero on the fairness scale.Know people that have taken out over 200k that haven't recieved any letters from the education dept asking for their money back but yet just years ago you would get garnished or liens.
I am with you 100 percent, you borrow money you pay it back. Do not ask me to pay your debt because I work hard and pay taxes.
Also, I watch every video you publish. I know not everyone is like the season premiere or finale of my favorite show, but I find them all very entertaining in one way or another. Keep them coming.
I have to say I do miss Melissa at the range with her crack shooting and fancy wardrobe!!🤔😎💣💥
Hi Robert I’m Maria from LA. How are you doing 😊
I agree with you, Mike, that this is debt transfer and not debt forgiveness. You and I and millions of other people will be paying for this. It's time that the American people wake up and stop putting the same politicians back in office time and time again. Thanks for the video and "have a day"!
Chris from South Central West Virginia
Term limits would fix some of that problem. I have a saying I've said for years: "Anyone who wants to be in politics probably shouldn't be". And it's my contention there is not a SINGLE member of the house or senate that has not abused their position in some form or another.
Spot on. Our educational system is broken, top to bottom. Colleges are out of control. Hopefully people will start to take voting seriously.
All I have to say is why isn't it being challenged in court! IT'S ILLEGAL!
Hey Mike thanks so much for your wisdom and common sense. Keep up the good work!
Mike I totally agree with you on this issue.
As for needing a college degree to succeed in life, there are plenty jobs out there that a college degree will not help you with. When I was 20 I dropped out of college, got married, and joined the Air Force. Back then I had no idea what I would do in the Air Force.
That was decided by the Air Force based on, their needs, testing before I joined and while in basic training. With help from GOD I got the second job I would have chosen if I could choose. My tech school was for aircraft mechanic on Turbo Prop aircraft. I ended up on C-130s for the rest of my 4 year enlistment. My first duty station was in West Texas.
Then I went to the Philippines, then back to my first duty station in West Texas. After two years into my 4 year enlistment I started using my GI Bill to get my Commercial Pilots License. Then an instrument and multi engine rating before my enlistment was up. I was able to get discounted prices for my Private Pilots License. The Base Aero Club was off base at a civilian flight school which also qualified to use my GI Bill at.
When my 4 year enlistment was up I got out of the Air Force and shortly after got my job on the Railroad as a fireman / engineer trainee. My Air Force experience did more to get the RR job than a College Degree would have done. Eight months after being hired on the RR I was promoted to engineer. As an engineer I made more then the guys I was going to college with, and we had great benefits too. I continued using my GI Bill to get further ratings like a flight instructor, instrument instructor, and a sea plane rating.
My job on the railroad had quite a few days off. I was on an over the road job that I only worked 14 days a month, 7 round trips. I would spend a good bit of my off days at New Orleans International doing free lance flying and aircraft maintenance. I also got my FAA Aircraft Mechanics license
Just before I got my RR job my wife and I went to an airshow. There was a C-130 on static display and we were taking a tour of it. When we got into the cockpit I got into a conversation with the guy giving the cockpit tour. I told him I has just recently got out of the regular Air Force as a crew chief on C-130s.
He immediately ask me if I would be interested in joining the AF Reserves as a flight engineer on C-130s. A flight engineer is the second officer, which is a pilot position, on civilian airlines. I told him I was interested and the next week I was back in the Air Force as a reservist.
With a little bit of testing and some paperwork I was a flight engineer. That was the first job I would have chosen if, I could have chosen, when I first enlisted in the regular Air Force.
Very interesting how we Vets often end up in jobs largely supported by our experience in the service. I think that early on, testing in the service keeps us from making huge mistakes in our career paths. I did go on to get a BS college degree. With the help of a PELL Grant and BEOG and a loan, I got through my first two years, and then the company I worked for paid for the next two years and oh, yes, I paid for my own books out of pocket, and yes, I paid every penny of my college loan out of my pocket. I got the last two years of college while working a full-time job and raising three children. If you want it bad enough, you will find a way to get your formal education. Others find their career paths in other fields by going to vocational schools and often make a whole lot more money than people with college degrees. So it all depends on your field of choice and your desire to succeed at something you love to do. The rest is cake and ice cream.
@@philipmorehouse1069 So true. When I talk with young people looking to go into the military I ask them what type of career interest them. Based on their answer I can usually advise them of what branch would be best to join. These days it is easier to go into the military in a field one likes if testing supports that decision. Usually I recommend Air Force, Navy, or Coast Guard first, then Marines. As these branches tend to have more career fields that can transfer into a civilian career.
One of my nephews was dead set on going into the Army. I advised against it unless he wanted to retire from the Army or become a mercenary after his enlistment. I told him he had a much better chance of going into a career field he could use after his first enlistment was up. He ended up in the Infantry. I got a letter from him about 6 to 8 months after he joined. His first words was, “Uncle Bill I should have listened to you. I hate this.” Then he wrote about the things that was huge issues for him.”
After his enlistment was up he did go to college on his GI Bill and got a business degree. He manages a large rental company. He is dealing with PTSD.
Well said Mike. It's good to hear to hear the truth these days. Like your daughter Hanna, I paid every dime of my student loans, picked a college and program I could afford, worked before-during-and after school, and picked a program where a job was waiting at graduation. It's called personal responsibility. Our federal government has a perfect record of screwing up every single program they've ever put in place and this is just another example.
You hit it right on the head of the nail. I hope more people begin to think the same way.
Question what is the difference when you see on the road , camp firewood and firewood for your wood stove? Can u use camp wood that they sell on the road in your wood stove
Yes sure can
Just an anecdote for the younger folk. I received my electrical engineering degree in the late 1980s, when tuition and books and rents were much more affordable. However, I worked at the university 12 months of the year in order to pay my bills, and I skipped out on all the fun in Colorado during those years, and didn’t ski once during those difficult years. I worked very hard and finished with zero debt, but I missed out on all the fun activities that would have been so much fun. Both of my daughters have graduated in the past ten years, and they both have debt that they are carrying. Yet each of them were encouraged to take a semester in Europe (Spain and England), which sounded amazing….. I didn’t take a semester anywhere else so that I could work at least 20 hours per week to pay my bills. It just goes to show you that allowing the government to take control of anything (student loan programs in this example) just makes things much worse.
Outdoors with the Morgans, I would like to formally notify you that we are going to continue our subscription. We support channels that share knowledge, display the American flag and promote hard work. In our opinion these things are needed in this country, and we are seeing less of it each day.
Your channel has taught us several things in the last couple of years. Two years ago, we purchased a new tractor, chainsaw, and some property. We have watched your videos to help us with our projects. It’s no longer how are we going to do that to let’s get it done! We recently completed a greenhouse. We did the site prep (cut down a 40-year oak), dug out the stump (tractor), poured the concrete (tractor helped) and built the entire thing ourselves.
The both of us started with nothing and through hard work, paid off school loans and conservative spending habits, we now live in the country enjoying life. We agree with your point of view and we are baffled that anyone sees this as a good idea. We ask that you guys keep doing what you do, and we will keep watching!
Hi I’m Maria from LA. How are you doing 😊
I completely agree, Mike! I signed away 8 years of my life to the U.S. Army to pay for my college.
Good on you Brother. Thank you for your service.
Well I agree with you 100%!!! The government is spending money faster than it can be printed!!! The interest on 30 trillion at just 5% is 1.5 trillion a year!!! When the interest eats the whole operation budget then this whole country comes to a halt!!! This needs to stop before it is to late!!! Thanks for saying something!!!...Dave
Mike, you are exactly right, the government has gone to far.
Spot on Mr. Morgan!!!!
Spot on Mike. This is such an infuriating move by the Democrats. I have called my Senators voicing my opinion multiple times and will continue to do so. I encourage everyone to step up and place those calls. Politicians care about their positions and they need to hear from you.
Mike, we are the same age. So we came along at the same time. I was the last child in the family and ended up being the only one to finish college. State college and I worked, stayed at home. Rode the bus and rail to classes. Walked just about everywhere I could. Worked construction when I was out of school. No debt. I was taught, you were responsible for your decisions and loans were one of them. Car, home, college it did not matter. You read the fine print, etc. No matter what it is your choice and you have to live with it. Most of my friends were the same way. Some had debt coming out of college which they paid back and others worked and did not. It did not matter a loan is a loan. I will have my own child that I'll pay for or at least help pay for her college, IF she wants to go. I still have quite a few years before that comes up. I DO NOT want to pay for others children to go to college and get a degree that is useless but they felt like they were pressured into it or whatever the current argument is. It seems to change over time. I think we, society, have raised a generation of kids that want someone to bail them out of trouble because we as parents, society, always have. Our parents did not. We paid when we messed up. Yes we want better for our children and we want to protect them always but at some point they have to take responsibility for their own lives. So far it sounds like you have tried to do the right thing with your kids and I hope my wife and I do the right thing with our 7 year old. Only time will tell.
If the best job you could get as a student paid you $0.83/hr., I wonder if you'd have still gotten a degree. My experience was that employers did NOT want to hire students, even one with 3.8 GPA. I had no parents to help, or give me guidance. Less than full load, you're draft bait. I myself learned a lot in the Army, and in Viet Nam, but no degree came with it. Yes, I took a student loan, paid most of it back out of my 'combat pay'. Congrats to you for your accomplishments.
Since we taxpayers are footing the bailout, we own those degrees and should apply them to any future resume.
In my neck of the woods, a person can go to community college for 6k/yr and then transfer to an in state public university for a similar price tag. Live at home, study your butt off, and work a job or two. Parents should also chip in where possible, provided they have the ability to do so. That’s the recipe for a debt free 4 year degree. Nothing wrong with the trades as well!
And I think your video is very well stated. The government is treating the symptom not the problem.
Mike - you are 100% right on the money. Schools are being fed ungodly amounts of money through the student loan program. It's like an open checkbook. Anytime the gov't is involved in anything the program becomes wasteful, expensive, inefficient and bloated. And schools have taken advantage of this. I worked part time to put myself through college. These young adults need to realize that taking a loan in anything has a responsibility to pay it back. Anyway, I've been saying exactly what you just said in your video. Thank you for explaining this to all. And keep up the great videos!
You started off exactly right. These schools are getting ungodly amounts of money, and charging even more for tuition. It's absolutely insane. Something needs to be done about that. But you can't put it on the young adults. If you want a higher education, if you want to pursue a career that requires it, what is there to do? Yes, both of my kids have and are started in a community college, that is a great option. And now they are in our state college. But that only gets you so far. Don't put this on the students, keep your argument to the institutions and demand a change from them.
Don't worry about what people think there's always a Karen or a ken in the group. No matter what you do you can't satisfy them. Just keep up the great videos! America loves you! You're perfect just the Way You are! I wouldn't change you if I could.
Either sex can be a Karen
Careful now, this Ken, along with his wife Karen, yes really, love the channel including these topics. LOL
Enjoy when you give your thoughts on these type of topics. Wisdom is in short supply.
If it is any consolation the UK is no different. We have encouraged / coerced our kids to qualify in all sorts of weird and wonderful subjects that have been a total waste of money and their time. In doing so we have saddled them with huge loans that they will never be able to pay back. In fact the system in the UK discourages them from getting a good well paid job as the amount they would payback will ratchet up quite quickly. When i left school you could probably count the kids on one hand that went to University, now it seems to be the other way round. I like my farther and grand father learnt a trade as an apprentice, and i can still recall my father saying that one day the tradesperson would come in to their own, we are now at that point as we struggle to get Plumbers, Electricians, Engineers etc, all of whom can now command their own price.
Well said. Thank you!
Thank you! Finally someone who isn’t afraid of going to TH-cam jail! Everything you said was fact, no apologies needed. If I wanted to go buy a dump truck, mini excavator and skid steer on loan, its my obligation to pay it back, not the taxpayers! But the bank would have a better chance of getting the money back because I could go work, oops, I used that nasty word.
Nasty four letter word!
Don't worry, I have the nasty word in my name.
@@seanworkman431,
Yes, yes you do!
This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. So now you complain because the little guy gets a break and not the wealthy who don’t pay taxes. Uh yeah, got it. Who said they were defaulting on their loans?? Hell people, trump bankrupt 6 times. Complain about that. It’s your tax money paying for that.
@@nico8587d,
You haven’t a clue! Pretty sure Soros is not paying for these comments anymore.
Mike , I totaly agree with everything you said on the "Student Loan Forgiveness".
I went to vocational school 40 years ago and paid back the small loan I had. My two kids worked before and while going to college and I was able to transfer part of my GI Bill benefits to my kids so they both graduated debt free. Now they are looking at the possibility of having to help pay for student loans of others that borrowed money to pay for their college and partying.
This is not fair but so many people are so blind to what has been going on in our county.
Thank you for having the courage to speak out about this, I know you try not to be political, and I understand that. Until more people stand up and speak out nothing will change. People need to educate themselves on what is really happening and get out the vote so we can turn our country around before it's too late.
Thank you
I have been watching for a couple years I truly enjoy your videos. I have never commented until now. I think you are 100% spot on about everything you just said. Thank you and the whole family for all the effort you put in.
Don’t be a stranger!
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans I wish I was closer to yea. I would offer my services to finish the woodwork in the building. I am a finish Carpenter from Sandusky ohio. That is right up my ally.
I like your last name. LOL
Absolutely agree with everything you said. Why should we pay for someone else's college tuition.
I couldn’t agree with you more Mike. The government is setting a very bad example for our future generations and it’s completely unfair for the kids that like you said work hard and didn’t go to college or like your daughter that paid their way through.
Mike I agree with you on the Student Loan Forgiveness! What they are teaching our kids is no responce ability.
I agree 100% with you Mike. The tuition rate has doubled in the last 10 years. The universities and colleges should be the ones on the hook for not controlling costs. Also they should counsel the students in picking a career that will allow them to cover the costs of their schooling.
If the government has extra funds to hand out they should put the money in the SSA fund. I am deferring getting SSA until I am 70 (extra 8% a year 3 years is 24%). My fear is they will announce they can only pay 75 cents on the dollar in several years from now. That will wipe out all of my 3 years of deferral. The government needs to fund their current obligations and stop giving away money - I really think this is trying to buy votes this year to keep them in power. They will find out next year after the election this is not legal to just have the president give away money.
Mike, you nailed it. Colleges are becoming an albatross around the neck of the working class, aka, those without a college degree. The curriculum available in college is a complete joke. More kids should go to a community college first to decide what they want to do. I would be willing to bet that most would be happy to learn a valued skill, aka, a "blue collar skill", and given time, they will make much more money in the long run.
Hi Mike.. Back in the days when I graduated I was given a choice between going to the military, going to work , or going to college.. I chose to go to work. Not there's anything wrong with any of the options I was given.. But I chose not to go to college and now 30 some odd years later I'm paying for it.. HMMM??🤔.. You are correct in the fact that anything the government puts their nose in usually gets screwed up.. I've had to pay my own way through my whole life, why can't others?? Now I'm not the smartest guy but I've done ok for myself and my family with just common sense and a lot of on the job or hands on training .. What ever happened to make your own way and don't rely on others??
Thanks for all the great videos..
God bless buddy..
Bravo Mike and Spot on in every regard. Be responsible for self and the vast majority of mankind’s problems are insignificant.
I enjoyed the video and most of the comments. I went to college with help from my parents, academic scholarships from the university, and working jobs provided by the university. I went to medical school with the HPSP and had to pay back the funding during medical school by spending every academic break in the school year by putting on my butter bars and learning to do fun stuff like marching on a parade ground or doing clerkships at an Air Force Hospital. After medical school I served eight years active duty. Towards the end of my payback time I got to travel to foreign countries and see great fireworks shows, which I must say were more spectacular than your great July 4th shows. Desert Shield/Storm. My free education did come with costs. There is an old saying that there is no such thing as a free lunch. The current generation does not seem to appreciate that and won't until they have to foot the bill. The politicians will keep passing the bill around until it finally gets paid by the ones who never got to eat the lunch.
I almost never comment on videos, however I think your analysis is fair, accurate, well-thought-out and expressed. I appreciate you stating it on your channel.
Randy from Chattanooga TN
Mike, I watch a whole heck of a lot of your videos and appreciate all of them. I do not comment on your videos or any videos for the most part, but when you put this video out I could not could not agree more! What is this saying to all the hard-working kids like you say, did do it the right way and work their butts off to pay off their student loan and get their degrees. I just cannot understand this government slapping the majority of the people in the face and pandering to a small percentage of kids that do not want to work for it! Your analysis is spot on and I do appreciate it. Keep up the great work
Sad times,I'm sick of my Taxes going to this BS,nothing is Free, someone pays but so many feel that they are owed,
100% correct Mike. The Higher Ed industry has successfully ‘normalized’ borrowing for college. Best I can determine in researching this problem; the cost of higher ed has increased on average between 2 & 3X broad inflation for…50 years straight. And it all started about the same time the federally guaranteed student lending business began. In 25 years in the wealth advisory business I was only recently asked for the first time to review the terms of student loan program for a young lady intending to go to medical school. Two observations…first I was stunned at how biased the terms were in favor of the lender and against the borrower. Second, there was a lot I couldn’t even understand. The young lady ultimately decided to sign up with the U.S. Navy and is having an incredibly positive experience with her medical AND military training. My opinion, there is zero reason kids or parents should take on debt to fund college for three reasons. First, start a Section 529 educational savings account the moment the baby butt hits the scale in the delivery room. Second, consider the military for a great start in life and lots of help for higher Ed training. Third, go see Wal-Mart, Amazon or the growing list of companies with programs to completely cover the expense of a college degree.
Well Said Mike - couldn't agree more with you. Never having gone to University, I eventually ended up doing part time lectures on Post Graduate courses at a University. I was shocked at the level of knowledge of these students, who, having spent 3-4 years studying the subject, did not even know the basics of the subject and so I had to adjust my lectures accordingly. They all left with student debts and many of them, never ended up in the industry that they studied for. What a waste of 3-4 years.
Hi P W I’m Maria from LA. How are you doing 😊
The sorry thing is WE THE PEOPLE ARE SITTING BACK AND ALLOWING IT TO BE DONE!!! Mike keep up the great work.
Couldn’t agree more Mike, great explanation! As far as Karen’s and Kens, they’ll always be there trying to argue with someone if they don’t agree! They’re lick fleas you just can’t get rid of! Thanks for the great content, love it all! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
lick fleas lol
I agree with you Mike. To much money given out to freely. I went to college and worked to help pay for it and my parents helped some too. No debt when I graduated like some friends did. But, I missed out on Spring Breaks in Florida because I was working and I couldn’t join a Fraternity because I had to work part time, etc , etc. Do I regret missing out on those things ? Not one bit.... I have gone my entire life paying my own way without going eyeballs deep in debt. I have only financed 2 vehicles and they were both on 0 % financing thru special promotions thru the auto mfg. I bought a small piece of property and had it paid for before starting our house. I had the house under roof before borrowing money to finish it. I pay off my credit card bills every month. DONT SPEND MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD is the key..... Sorry for the long rant but I’m kinda irked too because our daughter got thru college debt free but I now see where we could have not helped her and bought ourselves a new car instead....
Agreed that this new program misses the mark by a long shot. It's unfortunate that we have so many young people in debt but the real culprit is skyrocketing education costs and willingness to take on too much debt. I know it's a complicated topic but it would make more sense to understand and target where the source of the problem is. In a program like this, for those that qualify, it makes sense to tack on a work requirement to the local, state, or federal jurisdiction as the payback solution. No free ticket just do time to help solve government tasks/jobs with immediate work requirement. When I went to college in the 70s the cost was 10% of our total family salary. Now it would be 20-40% of most families' budget.
Because clearly it still needs to be said: Student loan forgiveness is not about irresponsible people taking out education loans and then not paying. These are compounding interest loans: borrowers are struggling because they pay many times OVER what they borrowed and still owe!
I could go along with hardship exceptions, and if you are sick or did try to pay and it swelled to a unplayable amounts.
Every loan is not predatory.
You're right on! My oldest boy got his degree and has only used his degree for about 4 years. Now he's in construction sales and has paid off all of his and his wife's student loans. Trades are a better choice for a great income.
Mike, I agree with everything you said, but you forgot to mention this: my wife and I paid for our three children to go to a four year college. We were happy to do it and blessed that we were able to do it. Now we’re going to have to pay for this loan forgiveness just like every other taxpayer. And how about the kid that got out of high school and went to work as a plumber or a carpenter or any of the hundreds of trades jobs. Now that person is stuck with the bill for some kid that went out and borrowed a ton of money to go to college. It’s not right, and I hope the politicians pay for this boondoggle in the upcoming election.
Hi Fred I’m Maria from LA. How are you doing 😊
Hey Mike I definitely agree with your assessment. It takes courage to speak out with the way things are but you must feel strongly about this.
I get what you are saying totally and would agree with you . The problem is that the alternative party in the USA has lost any integrity it may have had . Looking at the USA as someone who was in the forces albeit across the pond , I despair at the state of your federal politics , , but the answer is not to let a megalomaniac, narcissist take the whole of the USA down the path he wanted to . If I was an American citizen I probably would be a centre Republican , as I have core values but unfortunately they have lost their integrity if they had any in the first place .anyway keep doing what your are doing and look after your fine family and critters ............................ cheers !
