UPDATE: This is a repost from my Twitter! Hi guys! I'm still working towards having the Mean Girls game debugged and released as it was my main goal to share the game in its entirety. I hit a bit of a moral dilemma when the source asked me not to share it for reasons of their own that id like to respect. Honestly it makes sense, if I shared sensitive information from an old company I would be worried it would be traced back to me and that other dev teams wouldn't want to work with me in the fear their stuff would be leaked, so I can see why the person had asked me not to. I want to make sure a maintain a trusting relationship with the people who share lost media with me, whether they give permission for me to release stuff or not. I want to find more lost media and I feel like betraying the trust of people who share stuff with me just is not a good look, and i hope people understand. But that doesn't mean I was looking to hoard anything for myself, if I was doing that, I never would have released Clueless. I just wanna make sure I do everything respectfully, but I guess I'm just writing this to let anyone curious know, that I'm still attempting to either get their permission a second time around, or get in touch with someone who can give me the okay So much has already been found in such a short amount of time for a game we barely had any information about prior, and I feel like that in itself is already a huge step closer. ❤❤ im not done, and thank you for the kind words

There are two more things you should try with the rom: 1. Try it on the melonds emulator instead. 2. Try it on a r4 flashcart for the ds (works for 3ds too). You could play it on a hacked 3ds too.
As much as I’d lobe for this to ultimately become publicly available, I 100% respect and approve of your decision not to release the rom. It’s one thing if it’s given to you by a source who says it’s OK to post or says nothing about posting it, but since your source specifically asked you not to publish it you are absolutely doing the right thing. That’s a hard sacrifice to make, especially when people are clamoring for it, but it shows real journalistic integrity and respect for your sources. I applaud your decision and will just hope for a future scenario where the rom may be allowed to be released. Until then, your videos are at least preserving gameplay. I applaud you and all your hard work and integrity!
I respect you SO MUCH for this!!! Stick to it!! This is the respect you've earned, and why they opt to give ONLY you things! I do have a suspicion that the CEO GR was actually the guy who wanted to remain anonymous with Clueless Fashion DS. I bet he just didn't want it known and public he did it, due to NDA. I mean it had to be at least a manager to have ALL the design documents, and not just one..... ONLY a guess! I'm a computer nerd so I hope this next part helps? Seriously, a multi-threaded CPU of todays standards should show you EVERYTHING running on the DS ROM, en masse lol, and also within the emulator lies debug tools that can run frame by frame and such... This is is how they "polish" the game, you can fix anything with the right know how here. Its just really complex to understand(FYI most any machine/computer today is really capable doing this thought). Don't even try running it on real hardware, or anything retail, if its not working(nothing bad will happen, it just prob isn't finished somehow). Renaming the file sometimes is all it takes, though. More than likely there are too many debug tools running in ram and it hits an overhead/limit or something of that sort. It probably needs something with a higher allocation of memory. Which is what developer units have. If dev units aren't computer based, they are "consoles" that look like their retail counter-parts, but under the hood have improvements to help ease game development. They need the extra overhead/extra fancy parts, that just aren't feasible in mass market devices.
Except the latter can't be shared online due to respecting the anonymous's wish and also because the game is incomplete. Even if the ROM gets shared online, we wouldn't get pass the first minigame due to a glitch.
I loved the doc and I'm sorry about the issues with the ROM legality and bugs. I just want you to know that despite some of the toxic comments I've seen your posts getting on reddit and here on youtube, many of us are thrilled to see what you have uncovered and understand finding lost media can be tricky. I have a hard time understanding why some members of the community are giving you so much hate for taking care with the process of uncovering the full ROM. It seems awfully immature and selfish to be angry with someone who uncovered the ROM of a game many thought was not even real. I hate that some members of the community are alleging that you have not found the real game and are giving you hate for respecting the leaker's wishes. But regardless, I believe in what you are doing and I respect your integrity and care you take with your work. I sincerely hope that you are able to work out the issues with the ROM, and that maybe one day a playable ROM will be released. Maybe someday it’s possible to have it so everyone can play it, but until then, this is like absolute perfection and its incredible you were able to even get it, and to be able to show the entire gameplay, which is incredible

I can't even describe the absolute CHILLS I got seeing just the title screen... This is, genuinely, a historic discovery. I'm SO GLAD you were able to find it due to the attention of the first documentary, and I hope this one gets even more love and leads you to someone who can fix up the rom. I can tell the road to finding this game is something the lost media community will be talking about for years to come
Also I gotta say, just like the first one the production value and editing in this was just SPECTACULAR, and the guest voices blew me away (Saberspark and blameitonjorge are two of my go-tos for lost and obscure media, exquisite casting there)

Girl this is legendary it would be cool if you looked at more lost/unreleased games like maybe next you can look into the Alice madness returns beta because there is a good bit of stuff that has been found like a couple of beta clips beta pictures and unused ost and voice lines and also unsused sfx so there's a lot to go of so in a since that's the proof the beta exist the unused 3D models are also in the files of the game and a clip called blink test I wanna see if you can find even more remnants of the beta what do you think
he probably doesn't actually care if you release it--just had to protect himself in case the communication gets traced back to him....but since he said that, your hands are tied for your own protection too i guess
Wasn't there a 3D earthworm Jim or something title that was found on a Dreamcast devkit? While the creator doesn't really approve of it coming out and being shared online, he IS turning the other cheek and choosing to willfully ignore it so long as it doesn't get sold for profit. I think the person in contact for the Mean Girls DS game could have taken the same approach, but I guess he/she is too important that it can jeopardize his/her career.

Surprised no one else is suggesting you ask your dev contacts for a debug room, cheat codes, or test saves. If you can't fix the ROM, you may still be able to access more content with any of those if they exist.

Been super-hyped for this video, and I'm delighted to report that it's indeed a banger! I adore the found footage-style elements of this installment, they feel like such a natural and fun progression of the prequel's style and pacing, particularly of the prequel's ending clip! While there's definitely stylistic similarities in both installments' visuals (love the return of the nostalgic 80's-00's aesthetics!), I noticed that this one leaned more into the digital, "cybersleuth" kinda vibes in comparison with its footage and edits, which really fits the more tense tone of this point in the investigation. I'm a bit of a visuals nerd, admittedly lol! While it's a shame that the ROM file cannot be shared, the fact that footage of the Mean Girls game in action is in some way available is truly one hell of an achievement! It's incredible to see lost gaming media being uncovered, and I have to note that there's a particular wonder to watching the uncovering of games lost to time unfold during E3, amongst announcements of new games on the horizon. This docuseries honestly has been so fun to watch unfold over the past while, and I'm really feeling the anticipation to see how the story ends! I really hope everything works out with debugging the ROM eventually, and that even more footage of this game will finally see the light of day!
Just knowing that this game existed and wasn't just a troll is absolutely amazing. The dates that are always cited for the games released are dates commonly used by trolls. It's only a matter of time before you get the video we've all been waiting for released. Keep up the awesome
Just saying that if I really didn't want a ROM to get out, I'd make the recipient agree to that BEFORE sending the file. Hopefully this mysteriously leaks sometime in the next few years.
I wouldn't be surprised, but at the same time feel like I'm mostly just interested in the journey up to this point. As is, we were very fortunate someone was nice enough to give bobdunga the Clueless one and so much more, not to mention any real proof that either of these games exist.
Remember Viacom has some stakes in the mean girl property. The copystrikes are real. Pepperidge farms Remembers when Viacom would flag every other spongebob meme video and prevent us from cataloguing the Icarly web exclusive shorts after the site shut down in 2018 to the point channels were mass claimed or deleted for copyright issues. So the legality of who owns the Roms is probably the biggest concern.
I can't imagine how frustrating it must've been to have it glitch out, but there's definitely still hope that it'll eventually be playable and I'm greatly looking forward to that success. ♥ What you did find is still absolutely incredible, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the fact that it doesn't run probably indicates it never actually made it to shelves, right? Whatever the case on that though, what you've done is so cool, and the production quality on these videos are amazing; can't wait to see what topic you go into next!

That's amazing you were able to even find this game in the first place! It just majorly sucks that you can't share the game and that the game was left unfinished in a buggy state. As someone who has a weird nostalgia for shovelware "girly" games, this is awesome to see! Despite never seeing the movie, I totally would've loved this game if I got it as a kid.

Just wondering, have you tried running it on a flash cart? I know some DS emulation isn't perfect, and can result in issues that don't occur on actual hardware.

Holy crap! I can't believe you found it. After part 1 I was pretty certain that the Mean Girls game was gone for good. This is absolutely legendary! Hats off and kudos on a job well done. Honestly, the mod/preservationist/hacker community should be chomping at the bit for a chance to play an unreleased game that almost no one besides you and a handful of developers have ever played before.

That might have a level select screen it will allow you to bypass the burn book. I have no idea how you would trigger it, but you could check to see if other published games by crush have them and what the input is. It might be the same or similar! Girl this is legendary it would be cool if you looked at more lost/unreleased games like maybe next you can look into the Alice madness returns beta because there is a good bit of stuff that has been found like a couple of beta clips beta pictures and unused ost and voice lines and also unsused sfx so there's a lot to go of so in a since that's the proof the beta exist the unused 3D models are also in the files of the game and a clip called blink test I wanna see if you can find even more remnants of the beta what do you think

Wasn't there a 3D earthworm Jim or something title that was found on a Dreamcast devkit? While the creator doesn't really approve of it coming out and being shared online, he IS turning the other cheek and choosing to willfully ignore it so long as it doesn't get sold for profit.
I think the person in contact for the Mean Girls DS game could have taken the same approach, but I guess he/she is too important that it can jeopardize his/her career.

Surprised no one else is suggesting you ask your dev contacts for a debug room, cheat codes, or test saves. If you can't fix the ROM, you may still be able to access more content with any of those if they exist.

Been super-hyped for this video, and I'm delighted to report that it's indeed a banger!
I adore the found footage-style elements of this installment, they feel like such a natural and fun progression of the prequel's style and pacing, particularly of the prequel's ending clip! While there's definitely stylistic similarities in both installments' visuals (love the return of the nostalgic 80's-00's aesthetics!), I noticed that this one leaned more into the digital, "cybersleuth" kinda vibes in comparison with its footage and edits, which really fits the more tense tone of this point in the investigation. I'm a bit of a visuals nerd, admittedly lol!
While it's a shame that the ROM file cannot be shared, the fact that footage of the Mean Girls game in action is in some way available is truly one hell of an achievement! It's incredible to see lost gaming media being uncovered, and I have to note that there's a particular wonder to watching the uncovering of games lost to time unfold during E3, amongst announcements of new games on the horizon.
This docuseries honestly has been so fun to watch unfold over the past while, and I'm really feeling the anticipation to see how the story ends! I really hope everything works out with debugging the ROM eventually, and that even more footage of this game will finally see the light of day!

I wouldn't be surprised, but at the same time feel like I'm mostly just interested in the journey up to this point. As is, we were very fortunate someone was nice enough to give bobdunga the Clueless one and so much more, not to mention any real proof that either of these games exist.

Just wondering, have you tried running it on a flash cart? I know some DS emulation isn't perfect, and can result in issues that don't occur on actual hardware.

You might have already tried this, but does the game have a debug menu? That might have a level select screen it will allow you to bypass the burn book. I have no idea how you would trigger it, but you could check to see if other published games by crush have them and what the input is. It might be the same or similar! Alternatively, maybe the source who sent the file might know?
