    The 3 inch Talalay ( I think it was soft) topper was the most comfortable bed I ever had. The topper lasted about 13 years.

    Doesn’t Talalay always have to be mixed with a synthetic? I heard from 2 other videos I watched that there is no such thing as 100% Talalay.

      Actually there whether it's dunlop or talalay you technically can't get 100% natural latex. The most you can find is somewhere between 95-97% natural latex, the remaining 3-5% is the curring material to make it the latex rubber you see in mattresses.

    Dunlop latex is consistently described as 'heavier' & 'denser' - but you do actually have a reasonably wide range of densities with Dunlop latex.

    Talalay is perfect for pressure relief for side sleepers; though more expensive. You must know your sleep pattern, weigh & height to select the ideal firmness. Its similar to lying on soft jello while conforming to the shape of the body. It gets firmer the more you sink into it. The feel is definitely NOT the same as cheaper mattresses.

      Can you describe the firmness levels of Talalay? Nobody seems to be able to.

    • @hastensavoir7782
      @hastensavoir7782 ปีที่แล้ว

      “Gets firmer the more you sink into it.” So right. That’s why I think Latex should have a sophisticated blend of foam and other materials with it, to balance out the “resist” of the Latex. Personally I like a Responsive Medium-Soft feel with a Bit of SINK. Basically, Latex- Response, Bounce (Resist); Foam- Pressure relief (Sink).

      Talalay is very strange, lying on my back on talalay I feel the pushback a lot more than being on my side, my shoulders and hips don't get much pushback... very strange feeling. The key thing is pushback though, not everyone likes it, it almost feels like spices on your back or shoulders etc.

    Good stuff. Thanks. A question regarding breathability. If I use dunlop as the base support layer, and talalay as the middle and top layer, with I feel the difference in breathability, other things being equal, if instead I also make the base support level talalay? If it is all talalay, will air works its way up thru all the layers to the sleeper better? Thanks again.

    I'm thinking of getting a sleep on latex mattress in medium and a sleep EZ 3 talalay medium topper. I weigh about 230....you think this would be to soft? I sleep on my back or on my hip side w my chest more facing down so my shoulder doesn't dig in at all. I could also go 3 inch medium or soft Dunlop topper?

      @sherylfinucane5873 so I bought the medium firm. It was firm. I bought the soft topper for 50% off. Since then I have had my hip replaced.
      I can sleep on the opposite side, my back, and my stomach. The pressure is too much on my hip replacement though.
      Buying a bed online made me a little obsessed and kind of crazy for a few weeks. Because of this, I have gotten a job as a mattress sales person.
      Go to a mattress store. Go feel beds you're thinking of buying. Buy based on how it feels to you (pressure relief, and comfort). It's worth the time.
      Also I weigh less now, about 200 and its still "soft" enough to sleep on my non replacement side.
      It does come firmer and soften up over time. They all do

    Why lay on something more bouncy? Spock Logic tells me and common sense, The harder we blow up a basket ball the higher and faster it will bounce, Why lay on harder and why they are saying it's softer than Dunlop seeing Dunlop has less bounce? Make Boxing gloves out of Talalay and Dunlop and lets see the results after being punched.
    Wait! ahh I think I just Contradicted my self because Talalay weight is lighter then Dunlop but latex doesn't hit us we hit the latex that's a twist in logic. ok lets make crash test dummies to crash into a wall of latex lol.

    I need an firm topper, one that doesn't let me sink in like memory foam. I'm undecided on whether to get medium or firm Dunlop. I'm a side sleeper. Which would work best for someone who tosses and turns all night? And is 2 inches or 3 better for lower back support?

    • @sdmattressmakers
      @sdmattressmakers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you're going to get a dunlop I would stick with a medium layer as firm dunlop layer can cause pressure on the shoulders and hips. A medium talalay would be a good option as well.

    I have used a talalay mattress, (by Beautiful), for the past 10 years. Absolutely the softest but also supportive mattress I've ever owned. I was led to believe it would last for 15-25 years, but just recently I've had the return of back problems.I discovered the middle, (where I sleep the most), has become compressed.( I tested this by laying on one edge, and felt a sensation that my body wanted to roll to the middle). This compressed area cannot be seen visually, but it's definitely there.Final test was sleeping on a regular mattress with a 2 inch topper that yielded no back discomfort the next morning. I am so disappointed that the mattress has only lasted 10 years when I paid big money for it to last!! I'm a bigger guy, (230lbs), but that was not identified as a factor in durability initially. ALSO... it is not often said that these mattresses are super heavy!!! and they are dead weight. If you are in the market for one, be sure to try picking it up before buying. (Yes, I did rotate the mattress every 4-6 months, sometimes by myself which wasn't very easy).

    • @sweetea7035
      @sweetea7035 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing ever lasts as long as they say. My very expensive topper already has a big tear in it. If I could find the Talalay that I had about 12 years ago I would be in heaven! Like you I'm a big person, I've found the best combo is to get a super firm flat top mattress set and add the toppers to that. That way you get that very firm support but with a couple inches of bliss on top. Yes they are very heavy, but nothing is better than Talalay latex in
      My opinion.

    • @sweetea7035
      @sweetea7035 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sssssssslf it definitely has a better feel. And they come in different ILD (firmness rating) if you are heavier I would at least start with a mid range firmness, not the softest. I would also advise to spend a little more and get a zippered cover if the company offers it. They do tend to discolor and get yellow over time.

    Companies seem to be going more for Dunlop. I've sent 2 toppers back last year from different companies, I was led to believe I was getting Talalay but in fact they were Dunlop. I had a Talalay for over 10 years. It was AMAZING!!! I'm telling there is no comparison in comfort. The Talalay is a dream to sleep on. The Dunlop (even the soft density) is too firm. I'm saving up to get a real Talalay. I have a feeling they will eventually phase out Talalay.

    • @rts3613
      @rts3613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Dunlop is cheaper and less complicated to manufacture. The Talalay process is more specialized and costly. There are zero reasons to "phase out" talalay, as there are plenty of people willing to spend more for the talalay properties.
