You guys aren't wrong about this being a major change in tone for De Niro. He was a massive household name by the time this film was made. Prior to this, he had already starred in Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, and several more. The fact that he played such a subservient and subdued role here was shocking to many, but he pulled it off excellently lol

The beauty of Tarantino films is that you FEEL the love of cinema in each of them. The visual references to films past, the cool atmosphere he's able to concoct through dialogue and character, the music that only a music aficionado would include.. all for an audience that has grown and evolved with mass audiences regardless of age, gender or background.
Jackie Brown is, by and large, his most mature film, and in many ways his best (even though I give that title to Inglourious Basterds).

Most people knew Tarantino only from Pulp Fiction, and were expecting the same frenetic energy, and many were disappointed. But it has been increasingly appreciated as time passed. There's another Elmore Leonard novel with the characters of Louis and Ordell, this time played by John Hawkes and Jasiin Bey (Mos Def) called Life of Crime (2013) with Jennifer Aniston and Tim Robbins. It's a decent movie but it definitely doesn't have that Tarantino grit. I never get tired of watching Jackie Brown.

You guys really should fallow this up with the 1998 Steven Soderbergh/George Clooney movie "Out of Sight". I think it's worth checking out on its own, but there's a fun bit of trivia attached to it:
"Rum Punch" (the novel from which "Jackie Brown" is adapted) was written by a guy named Elmore Leonard, and he would often introduce supporting characters in one book who would then go on to appear in other books. Elmore Leonard was also responsible for the novel "Out of Sight" and Soderbergh tried to evoke that tradition when he cast his adaptation of "Out of Sight", setting both films in the same world.

Jackson shows up at the end of the film too, playing a character named Hijira Henry. You could argue that this breaks continuity because Jackson is playing two separate characters but given that Jackie Brown is set in 1995 and Out of Sight is set in 1998, I figured that Ordell survived getting shot and changed his name to Hijira after converting to Islam in prison.

This was just recommended to me randomly, great reaction! I love this film. I totally fell in love with Pam Grier as a young man watching this, then I had to go back and watch Coffy and other iconic parts of hers!
Subbed for sure, I'm gonna have to watch your Sopranos playlist rn!!

When you get a chance, I would like for you both to react to True Romance. That was Quentin Tarantino first project however only as a writer. The money he made from that was used to make Reservoir Dogs.

It annoyed me for a MINUTE that Max didn't run off with Jackie. But , deep down? He knew she was dangerous. I mean she DID , through her behavior, get three people killed.

Killing Zoe's another good one from this era; by the co-writer of Pulp Fiction. It's very entertaining; but the critics didn't love it.

Y’all keep coming back with great content and great takes on y’all reactions. I have to let y’all know DeNiro was absolutely the man when this came out and was a bigger Star than Sam at this time. And that’s taking nothing away from Sam back then cause he was lit after Pulp Fiction and still on the rise. But DeNiro did a great job in this movie and my favorite scenes of Louis are the once when he wasn’t saying anything. Just his looks and demeanor were enough. Keep it up y’all and hopefully y’all will get to a Do The Right Thing reactions eventually.
