The extreme cold water I was in (bit.ly/1SggvSf) caused the rubber to constrict around the plastic rim and pull out of the bead lock right in the middle of my run that day. So, today I figured I would go over tire repair on a scale crawler and touch on some of the basics. Want to come and hang out with me, then click play on the video bar! Just so you know, when you mention the little things that the veteran RC guy knows there are those like me, new to the RC world, who don't so I appreciate all the tips you give even though it might make the know it all mad. Hey Medic. Just an extra tip to stop bead locks from coming out. Take a wire wheel on a drill and rough up the bead on tire and also mating surfaces on rims. Just adds a bit of friction and prevents bead from slipping out again. I did this with my Yeti tires that are a common problem for axial and worked like a charm. Cheers!

Hey Medic! Thanks for the vid! I'm a quadcopter guy, but I want to get a crawler. I picked one out and it's a 6x6 Mercedes G36 RTR brushed with lipo. It has beadlocks and this video helped a lot! Thanks! I will be getting a brushless upgrade BTW. LOL I think it will be a good starter hobby grade crawler.
I have the Sawback and I run JunFac Hardened Universal Shafts so far so good. Had the stock ones foe a while then just upgraded. Can't wait to get my Komodo

Just for simplicity I get rid of any Philips head screws,bolts or the like and replace with Allen or hex head. When I built Sawback replaced with all Philips with hex's from Fastenal.
Medic you helped me so much with beadlock assembly and shock refilling, glad to see that you're still helping the new people with these vital parts.
P.S. I have the Losi MRC and need a new motor and esc.
Please help if you can, i have Novak's discontinued brushless crawler motor and esc combo and i fried the esc looking for a new motor and esc that will work with it. I have spent over $1500 on it and really hate seeing it sitting and not running.
+six9smoke most brushless esc's should work brother! Im a Tekin man.. are you using it in water at all? From what I understand Tekin will be releasing a waterproof esc very soon ;)

Hey Medic, ended up picking myself up an Axial XR10 and was thinking it would be a good fun build. Ended up getting really busy and can't find time to build it. Well recently I got a bit of time and need to find some components. I don't know what to get for it but I don't need super stuff like you. So I have 2 rc's... they have been around for a while but I brought one out that works (the servo is broken on the other) and it's worked fine until one turn it just stopped but I researched and learned the pinion gear is stuck and won't budge at all. still turns on and turns and everything just when I push throttle or brake it just makes a sound no movement. Any thoughts on what to do? Any feedback is appreciated.

I tested those no name drive shaft last for ever on brushed rig once you go on brushless you get a few run out of them
medic, do beadlock wheels work on non beadlock rims without using the beadlock feature

I only have 8 RCS and have a hard time deciding which one to run how do you do it?
I guess it is sold as a Bead lock system, but back in the day that style wheel was referred to simply as a 3-picee wheel. It was very common of RCs through the 1980s into the 1990s. They are great for swapping tires and the seam in the wheel was an natural vent for the wheel and tire. I still have a couple of sets of 3-pc wheels for my old buggy.
For buggies and most racing applications they were dropped for lighter one piece wheel that required you to glue the tires on. Other than On-road Foam tires, gluing tires to the wheels was not really heard of before that. But then RCs did not have enough power to spin the wheel inside the tire or traction roll hard enough to even risk peeling the tire from the wheel.
3-pc wheels were not really any much heavier that most racing wheels, of that time. Even in the day, Racers would notch out the inner ring to lighten that part up, and improve tire "breathing". But ultimately the material the wheels were made of, and the lack of Teeth the grip the tires, was what lost 3-pc wheels their prominence. But for fun runners, crawlers, and monster truckers, 3-pc wheels should be a thing again.
They are just easier to live and work with.
+DocWolph I suspect that glue wheels are desirable for the manufacturer because we have to buy new ones more often.

great video Medic, Loved it as always! I in alberta and as you know its cold, im new to the hobby and was wondering if i should take my foams out of my tires so i get more traction and the dont get so solid. please reply i would love your advice on this.
+Cody Ogden it's all trial and error brother! I have several trucks set up on air tires only - and in the cold (unless you have adjustable air) they shrink and can cause a wobble. Foams for winter is recommended from me ;)

So i bought new tires and wheels for my barrage and i cant get the wheels to go on all the way to screw them on. Do i have to cut the foam in the tires? Yes the wheels are the same size as the tires. Having some difficulties here

Hey medic!! I'm new to the rc world, but i do know my way around electronics. I own a brushed 2wd slash and I'm looking to make it faster. What would be a good way to make it fast enough for a indoor clay short course track. Ps it's not fast enough now.
