  • Click to Subscribe! ► bit.ly/JOovvU - During a blast of winter, I took an opportunity to light a fire and head out to the icy rocks. I wanted to see how the Komodo 4x4 faired on this slippery terrain, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
    Ok, so many people ask me questions about the rigs I use, so I have provided public info on the manufacturers website below.
    "The new GMade Komodo Scale RC Crawler! Based on the GS01 chassis, which was first used on the Sawback, the new GMade Komodo comes equipped with an overload of high performance scale crawling parts. Features include a steel c-channel frame with built in scale plate, a 4 link suspension system with internal spring oil shocks, one piece graphite solid axle housings with metal diff covers, a single speed transmission with metal motor mount, a set of MT1903 1.9″ rock crawling tires on NR02 bead lock wheels, and a low COG adjustable battery plate. While that’s all great, what really makes the GMade Komodo stand out from the crowd is that amazing pickup truck body. It is made of clear polycarbonate with multiple plastic accessories including a front grill, front and rear light buckets, door handles and much more.
    Specs
    Width: 236mm
    Height: 247mm
    Length: 506mm

    A reply to your comment that many people don't really enjoy crawling and trailing - I personally think those kinds of RCing are the most appealing. I have not had the financial opportunity yet to purchase a trail truck, but I can't wait until I finally do. I really enjoy all your videos with the Ascender and Komodo - my 2 favorite trucks!

Thumbs up for the venom !!

      +Joel Sanford I have been very pleased with this truck so far, (thankfully) I havent broken a single thing on it yet! The mirrors are pinned on, and rotate when friction is applied - and like you said, the scale accessories are awesome! Makes it really look beast, right out of the box :)

    • @oldironsfury
      @oldironsfury 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +RCSparks Studio I agree brother , hopefully the innovation from G-made will continue. The rotating mirrors is a nice feature. Your convincing me on my next crawler purchase hahaha, capable rig!

    I am amazed at how well the tires are gripping. Never gave them a chance on my build and put on a set of Trepadors I had. As for the stock shocks, the trick is the 4 hole pistons with 20 wt silicone oil. Very smooth (should have added teflon tape to the threads to stop leaks though. Overall I am super impressed with the Gmade Komodo kit. Buy a stainless screw set and you are golden.

    • @TheRealRCSparks
      @TheRealRCSparks  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Scott Elenbaas Thank you Scott. I learned over the years of filming that watching a truck climbs is cool and all - but it certainly helps to know what the driver is thinking, while they are traversing a course. Im glad it has helped you learn a bit :) thank you for commenting

    I like these crawling videos. It's quite technical.

    • @TheRealRCSparks
      @TheRealRCSparks  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dave Cooper I agree Dave, it is very technical. Especially when you start setting up markers and restricted areas. Trying to make it through a course can be nerve wracking and extremely fun! That's part of the reason I do videos like this - to showcase how many avenues of the Radio Control hobby there are. Thanks for commenting!

      ***** Santa is hopefully bringing me one of those mini 4 wheel steer crawlers and so I'll be able to crawl around the sofa!😀 It's great when you explain the thought processes and how to tackle a given situation. +Liam Crawford I certainly have! In fact, we have done several over the years. The only problem for me, is that they dont hold up to the abuse my rigs go through.. and people end up being disappointed. So, I left a few vids up on budget rigs.. and then moved on to types of rigs I prefer. Good comment!

    I think a lot are put off by rock crawling because they set up a course a pro couldn't master. its a fine balance between being hard enough that you don't fly through, but not so hard that each obstacle makes you roll or get stuck.

    • @wolfbanger2124
      @wolfbanger2124 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the ppl who i crawl with would find those challenging and would not be "put off" , they would except it as a challenge. If you want to run easy courses then stay in class 1 or 2 and let the big Boys take care of the rest. Honestly ive not met one person who quit running because the course was "too hard".

    You could mount your camera on your controller so that you have two hands to drive. Maybe Velcro straps for use on multiple controllers.

    I love RC cars and in the past have had all kinds of battery and nitro fuel models. The one thing that spoils the scale of these models for me sometimes is that they don't move slow enough in some instances, and when making films as good as Medic does here especially using large trucks or crawling etc, this really show up and it's not realistic. For instance in real life driving you don't just engage first gear then take off.. You have a clutch to get you going from 0MPH and if you wish you can use that clutch to continue at 1MPH if you wish. This is the opposite with RC as the thing just engages gear and takes off at it's minimum gear speed.
    I'd love it if the manufacturers of these things made them so that they could start off VERY SLOWLY and then run very slowly at like 0.1MPH when they do start to move. I understand that even when using a digital motor controllers erc that a motor still needs a certain voltage to start to spin, but this could be overcome using either a tiny gearbox or even a type of slipper clutch. I feel that this would make the likes of crawling, trucking, works machinery etc seem sooo much more realistic.

      +orbiter8 (John) That is the beauty of RC.. you can setup your rigs to suit your driving and mental image needs! Then again, we are just goofing around having some fun :)

      +orbiter8 (John) That isn't actually true. There are RC's with a more than scale minimum speed and many that can move VERY slowly like the truck displayed in this video. Throttle control on these vehicles is just like the control you have in your own.
