Fabulous run-by s!! Probably the best so far of the 30-40 videos since the beginning of May! There has been more coverage of the Big Boy in this week than the entire 20 years of its original existence in the 1940's and 50's (that's been shown publicly). We are indeed very lucky to be around for this. Thank you UP, especially Ed and crew and Corporate Mgmt.
Seeing and hearing this locomotive operating for the very first time in a very very long time gives me the chills. So beautiful is the Big Boy, it's hard to put it into perspective. The shear size of this locomotive alone is very intimidating. I think most will agree that steam locomotives are alive. Diesel locomotives have an altogether different life of their own. As do electric locomotives. Like the GG 1. Big Boy is and shall always be, my most favorite of any locomotive ever manufactured in the world. This video, as well as the many others posted are testimony to American Greatness. Sure, other countries manufacture locomotives. Very powerful ones, but none to date have ever surpassed the many records set by this particular locomotive. Her it is today, in 2019. Who knew? Such beauty. Love watching this locomotive....... 🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸
JR Ewing this is thee largest on planet earth. 1,250 , 000 pounds 7 thousand hp. 14’6 “ tall. 135 feet long. It took me nine months to rebuild the engine and firebox. We fired it I cried long live the BIG BOY AH BEAST
Now, you, my friend, know how to shoot video. This is great! Nicely done. Thanks for sharing so us here in Wisconsin can enjoy this magnificent machine.
I think the most interesting project UP Steam could undertake now is to get the 9000 up and running... totally unique 4-12-2 beast that sounded different than any other steamer.
Wonderful video. Thank you for posting. I had planned to be there, but things changed and I wasn't able to go. At least I can see what I missed, but sure wish I could feel, smell, and taste it as it passed by. Hopefully on another run in the near future...
Very nice...hmm...May 8...As I recollect, "One" Thomas Durant on May 8, was supposed to be at Promontory for the wedding of the rails, but was detained by workers wanting payment, under pretext of a bridge wash-out...and Grenville Dodge suspected swindling by the "Good" Dr. Durant...
@@robertcampbell9946 the sound. I just want them under a little more load for the sound. I dont think they will ever have them pulling 12 miles of cars.
There's a video here on TH-cam showing a Challenger pulling 143 double-stack container cars. Look for "Challenger on Archer Hill." It's not exactly the same as a Big Boy, but it's close, and is quite impressive. In fact, I've been acquiring containers and well cars for my model railroad so I can recreate that event...

Living history before our eyes. Have been in Cheyenne a few times and know this location well. Wish that we could be on the trip to Ogden but seats were $3.000-$5,000. Too rich for my wallet.
Your video is fantastic, but the mono sound leaves out a whole different dimension of all the wonderful sounds associated with these trains. Got a stereo mic?
Why do the videographers keep shooting the train after the star of the show goes by? They should pan to follow the locomotives - who gives a rat's bum about the train when 4014 and 844 are the stars of the show.

I'm hoping the 4014 eventually comes through Milwaukee. It's an absolute beauty, it's whistle sends shivers down my spine.
Thank you for identifying the locations of the shots. I really appreciate that. Also, nice to see stable video shots.

13:59 I Love It! 4014: I’m Ready!!! Are You Back There? 844: Yes!!!! Let’s Go!

Excellent choice of vantage points and great camera work.

At 7:19, as the Big Boy goes over the bridge, you can almost hear the bridge groaning in pain.
What a great piece of AMERICAN HISTORY !!

Thank you for posting. Beautiful video. I couldn't be there but this may be better. It also shows me Wyoming which I will never likely see. Thanks.

Great shots. Train Lord subscribed.
Thanks!
Wow! Awsome! Great vid! I just wish they were pulling a mile of heavy freight! The sound would be absolutely blissful!
1 mile?. 1 mile of cars is childs play to this beast .Big Boys were built to pull a 5 /12 mile length of cars !.

How or why would anyone give this thumbs down? If you don't like it dont watch it!
Nice job
Thanks
very Awesome video NY Trainzchaser :)
Thanks!
How do you manage to see all of this? Do you have more people working to get videos on the channel? It's amazing!

One of the best 4014 videos I've watched! How the heck did you manage to grab the initial segment in the yard?? Looked like a lineman's perspective!
Thanks! The shot in the yard is from the Warren Ave bridge.
Why are there 2 steam lovomotives?
No petrol, no diesel, no electricity, no batteries, no fuel cells, no reactors, no problems.
Why is there a modern locomotive in the train? Is it there in case the big boy breaks down?
To provide dynamic braking to increase the load. This simulates the load of a much heavier train.
유심히보면 디젤기관차가 중간에 끼어서 밀으주는게 보입니다. 증기기관차는 그냥 달리는 시융만 하는것이다
Why do they had a diesel engine itt is this one is pulling.
Braking power and if big boy were to break down they could get it off the main line
