I am surprised they don't offer one stock. After all these years they don't offer a more heavy duty version with off-road tires. Bike Friday has done this for quite some time now.
Totally missed the opportunity to have an impeccably dressed Si drop the Brompton off for Alex as "Q" to convert before heading out on a mission. #GCN007
Great job on the editing, and give that person a raise. It should’ve been a subject I care a little about but you had me at the intro and love the hammer sequence into the music. Really out done yourself.
Ok. Thanks Alex and crew...The "Why are we doing this '"? guy is effing awesome , impeccable timing and diction , BAFTA nomination in the future! Good job on the Bromster. Bromzilla , Bromasaurus Rex ...etc
More brompton builds please. I saw a super brompton in Singapore this year. Titanium frame with carbon everything else. Probably after market since it was 11 speed as well.
Nice set up! It will be interesting to see GCN does a head on challenge of a Brompton P or T Line Explore 12 speed against a road bike. The first of its kind challenge.
I had ordered a kit from him. I do not recommend these parts. I was really exited about that, but the quality was terrible, and the communication even worst. The Brompton parts I had ordered came extremely late. He said 2-3 weeks lead time, but I only got it after 2.5 months, without an apology or anything. I got an incomplete order anyway, but he did not really cared about that, he did not send the forgotten part after the fact. The paint job on the parts were terrible, really, it flaked down under every screw, it is full of scratches now. He said he did not do the paint job himself. And that is all, it feels like he do not care about customers. The parts are expensive, but the quality is not good at all. My rear triangle was even skewed in the mounting consoles. I was expecting a quality hand made product with a personal touch, but I did not get that at all. (The picture is just for an example, it flaked down everywhere...)
I'm pretty sure Simon got the idea from me 🤔 However good to know he watched my video. My build was similar but went with the di2 11 speed and hydraulic discs, looking forward to see if he can tackle a mountain like I did.
I was about to say, this looks mighty familiar!! Just not so in detail as you presented it but probably with a bigger budget on the video production. But did they buy it as a “ready 4 build kit”?
Is Alex planning to take that jacket back to the shop? The vents are still sewn closed. Maybe it's to turn the air into turbulent rather than laminar flow.
Would really like to see a video on folding bikes. I travel a lot and don't always find a place to rent a bike. I am intrigued by some of the folding bikes like Montague but would love the advice!
Dutch Firm: Bromptonian builds Off Road Brompton versions, triple folders and repair parts for broken frame parts! But if in need of an MTB folder, try American Montegue, a former Army bike also now in civilian versions!
Brompton is the best bike in the world if you live in appartments or need to commute with a bus or train.......... It really is a worthwhile fantastic investment to have !
You are able to buy Eastern, Brompton-like parts also from titanium and a fork and triangle intended for a Disc Brake. I would definitely prefer a "Hydraulic Disc Brake" in front, and not waste my time and money for the back, as it is easily able to block the wheel at any time, with the ordinary brake! My now much less than 2019 SuperlightM6LXBrompton for now weighs 8,5 kilo (mudguards), and still falling, with a little more work on my mudguards, mostly! Finn. Denmark
007 James Brompton? LOVE THE BUILD! What are the parts and what did they cost? I personally would still keep it as a road bike with less knobbly tyres but the wheel size and choice of gearing and brakes looks great to me.
Any chance you'll publish a parts list? I'm particularly interested in the front fork and rear triangle you used. There's a million no-name clones and a few places with a web presence, but no clue what's worth money.
Iu make a video about doing tricks on a bromoton? I've noticed brompton content on your channels (gravel bike conversion here, uphill racing, commuting, ect.) But what about tricks? Is it possible to do a wheelie, manual, bunny hop, etc?
The standard 520mm bars will be too narrow and make the ride twitchy. You’d be better to fit Joseph Kuosac mid-rise bars, they’re 600mm wide and have a 100mm rise, SJS Cycles stock them. I run them on my 2012 Brompton H6R, trimmed to 560mm and they handle much better than the stock item.
That's a myth. I have a TERN VERGE X18. It's the only folding road bike ever made. An amazing bike. And the handle bars are narrow. And there's no twitch. But I can slip through traffic others would have to stop for. With 560mm or wider bars.
Quite right. I’m traveling with a Moulton XTB and it’s great for mediocre pavement and well-packed gravel, but as you surmised, not mud, ruts, hopping, or steep ascents where standing on the pedals is needed. With up-spec’d components it is shaping up nicely, though.
The thing is it cost a lot of money to build an off-road Brompton with disc brake. The total cost would be around 5K USD with all the aftermarket parts. I don't know if that's a good idea.
A bike project doesn’t have to make sense. Would love a gravel foldie. There are many others in the market. Brompton was never interested in making it gravel worthy. It’s a boutique bike in Indonesia.
Did you return the jacket back to the shop after shooting or why was the "tail" of the suit still stiched together? The two X stiches on either side are still clearly visible.
Hmmm, I can see where this is going. Next up -GRompton (is already 1x...) -TTrompton OOH, I sees what you did with the opening sequence! "Missed it by t h a t much" [thinks...] Oh Dang! Manon as 99 😍 😉😉
Bigger tires are better on the street, too, less prone to flats and a larger footprint. Nice work, Alex, except for marking up the frame with a marker, yikes. I'd be mighty disappointed by that, hopefully it'll wipe off easily enough.
I dont understand the point of this it was already a bicycle after all this effort its still a bicycle, once I made an umbrella from a Brompton this deserves a Mac Gyver award.
Give it to a bmx rider and see how long the frame will stand up to it. My guess: a donkey will never be a horse,no matter how fancy you dress it. Leave the Brompton alone, let it just be a fairly good folding bike.
Who would build an off road Brompton? 🤘
I am surprised they don't offer one stock. After all these years they don't offer a more heavy duty version with off-road tires. Bike Friday has done this for quite some time now.
The Brompton folds to enable multimodal transit. Who is taking a train to the trail? IMO it's just a less effective mountain bike.
You need off road wheels and tyres to cope with the roads around Bath tbf. Reminds me a bit of the Cannondale Hooligan.
What was the final weight?
My Brompton Bicep is already at its limits.
Alex, how much would the Brompton cost to begin with, and then the rebuild, if someone were crazy enough to follow your example?
Nice!! Looking forward to the review video. I am surprised you did not mention where the kit come from (Kinetics)
Excellent. I have a “normal “ Brompton with an 11 speed Alfine hub. Really good hub although adds weight. The kit from Kinetic is brilliant
An 11 speed Brompton would seem to be impossible to stop 🙌

The power of a good edit 😉 Great to hear you enjoyed the video - enough to make you want to try an off road Brompton?
@@gcntech let’s not get carried away
It used to be the GCN Brompton.
Now it's the GMBN Brompton

@gcntech started from the *Brompton
Looking forward to this vs Brompton G.

brompton has carefully look your video, and now come out G line😂🎉
That's what I m going to say! 😂
It turns out GCN mega base wasn’t a joke, Alex is just describing it.
Mega base is certainly no joke! Top secret GCN HQ is where the magic happens, think yourself lucky that you've had this much clearance 👀
How many damn security doors does one need to go through?!?!?!?!?!
Right? I'm intrigued by the gcn mega base tour
And the fire escape?
How very Maxwell Smart of you.
@@nateisrightWe're just missing the fall into the phone booth at the end.
Shhhh 🤫 You saw nothing 🕵
Get a Bike Friday All-Packa, no mods needed, and all parts are standard not generic. AND it folds ;-)
Interesting! Does it still fold? 👀
That's Kinetics rearframe and fork from scotland!
10 out of 10 for that intro GCN team 😂
Shucks ... you're making us blush 😳
More brompton builds please. I saw a super brompton in Singapore this year. Titanium frame with carbon everything else. Probably after market since it was 11 speed as well.
Ooooof sounds super bling! Brompton crit racing anyone? 💨
Some Singaporeans are getting custom Titanium ones from Taiwan instead of the T-Line
My mechanic went with 20" disc brakes and Shimano Ultegra
Alex needs to join a trade union, Alex is doing all the work whilst Si is just going to have all the fun.
Yep, like it. Doing a (re)build such as this is what bike life is about. Have fun with it.
Bikes are made to be fun, no more so than the humble Brompton 🙌
I've a Brompton but it's just not practical for rough roads, so I bought a Reach GT folding bike for that
C’mon guys, you might have at least mentioned Ben at Kinetics. You know the guy who made the kit you just fitted?
Nice set up! It will be interesting to see GCN does a head on challenge of a Brompton P or T Line Explore 12 speed against a road bike. The first of its kind challenge.
Did you borrow the suit, as you left the vent stitching in? 😂
I pointed that out to the spouse! 😂

With hub gears, you could go for a belt drive system for lower maintenance and cleanliness.
Harnessing your inner Michael Spicer in the intro there, Alex.

The Moulton ATB/APB was designed for this but I suspect small wheels and stump jumping mountain biking don’t mix. Gravel yes.
