There's a bit more to the gameplay than mentioned; once an enemy is jumped on and flattened it can be picked up and used as a projectile weapon, somewhat similar to Don Doko Don.
This is another game I mainly remember for receiving a bootleg Mario-themed reskin (it's known as "Pizza Pop Mario" or "Mary Pizza Pop"). Other than the obvious sprite changes, that version was significantly easier (perhaps too easy?), changing the timer to 10 minutes and giving you nine lives on the outset. As for the base game, it's alright. Presentation is solid, and while it's a pretty short game, what is here works well.
I agree with most Famicom fans that this is a GREAT game. It may not seem like much, but when you want a short, fun little experience, these are the kinda games you should look for. A distraction for a few minute with bright, colorful visuals and a neat soundtrack. Not very deep, but it doesn't have to be. There's no way I can get this one in my collection easily. People want too much money for it... but now that I am reminded of it, I think I'll pop it into my Everdrive and give it a play again.
One odd thing about this game is if you run for I think 3 seconds without stopping or jumping, your character gets tired and you can't move for a second. It will probably never happen to you on a playthrough in fact I only found it by accident trying to speed through the first level so IDK why it's even a mechanic.
I like how the enemies turn into pizza when you jump on them - you can use them as projectiles if you pick them up IIRC. :P This game is... very, very simple, but fine for a playthrough. It's literally what the rental market was made for back in the day (not in Japan though...). Overall, it's not bad, but like some other platformers on the system there's not that much game here.
this is a fun one to pop in and play also obligatory mention that this was also the subject of getting a bootleg hack that replaces the main character with Mario
so the boss can get in one last pot-shot and send you all the way back to the beginning... yeah great. other than that? yeah seems like an okay platformer, even if it's nothing special.

As far as food themed platformers go I'd put this between Panic Restaurant and Yo Noid 🍕

It's like somebody liked Daiku no Gen-san and thought "what if Gen was a pizza boy?"

Fun fact: This game was a brainchild of Jaleco's US branch. Weird how it never saw the light of day as an NES game.
