    Thanks for watching this video and for sharing it. Make sure to continue developing yourself and updating your profile accordingly. Also, remember you are competing against millions of young people across the world who are highly qualified and motivated. So you need to tailor your profile towards a need and skillset that the UN is seeking. Finally, be patient and know that it could take a couple ofyears like in my case to get your first shortlist for an assignment. Good luck my friends.

    Hello Peter,
    Thanks a lot for this encouraging video. I've always dreamed to work with the UN and now it's almost one year and half since I created a profile with the UNV platform but I have even applied for so many positions but got no reply up to now. After watching this video, I have this feeling that maybe my profile need to be updated!!! Hope to hear more from your experience.

      Hi Moise,
      Thank you for your feedback. It took me two years to hear back from UNV after creating my profile. You definitely have to keep updating your profile if you want to increase your chances of being noticed. If you've gained a new skill or experience, it's always advisable to login and update your profile. I wish you the very best in your pursuit.

    Hai Peter, thank you for the video. I'm over 31 years old, I have Bachelor Degree in Communication, and I have 2 months experience in local NGO and currently work at government institution / ministry in my country for 8 years as administrative, do you think someone like me still have a chance to land a fulltime UN International Volunteer?

    • @petertah
      @petertah  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see that you have vast experience in your field. You stand a great chance of landing not only a volunteer position but a full-time job. You just need to have the right instruments like a great resume and cover letter. With that I will advise you apply for as many jobs as possible in your field with the UN.

    • @petertah

      You need some work or volunteer experience to increase your chances of getting a UNV position. If you have very relevant education, you can also create your profile. However, work experience is paramount.

    What is better to start with volunteering or interneship ????

    • @petertah
      @petertah  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for this question. If you have had some work experience I would say volunteering is the way to go. But if you are still in school or fresh out of school you can give internship a shot. Either way if I had a choice to.make I would go for volunteering. As a volunteer you are bringing your full abilities to the table. Interns can be treated as purely leaners which can limit you from putting your skills fully into work.

    • @petertah

      There's no specific time frame for them to get back to applicants. For some people it could be weeks or months and for others it can take up to a year or more. So patience is required. Good luck.

    • @petertah
      @petertah  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for the question. You can find an organisation to work with as a volunteer and use the opportunity to build your experience. I started out like most people as a volunteer and worked myself up to where I am. I understand it can be challenging especially if you have bills to pay, but that's part of the sacrifices you have to make to build the life you want for yourself. God bless you.

    So I am 30 with an MBA degree and less than 2 years of work experience ( as i was busy with education) . I recently completed a 6 months internship at UN DGC. Is 30 too late to apply for UNV?? Should I directly apply for jobs( i feel like jobs require a lot of experience) . It would be great if u could shed some light on this topic .

      I hope that helped !

      I can see that you're already on the right track. I will encourage you to create a UNV profile and also look out for full-time or temporary positions with the UN and other international organizations. With an MBA you sure have limitless opportunities and just need to take the right steps in searching for the fitting job. Keep developing yourself, keep giving back to your community and keep searching for your dream job. Age is not a big deal. This month I got an assignment with the UNV in the Middle East which I had to turn down for personal reasons. As you can tell I'm well over 30. Age is not a barrier when it comes to UNV. Ride on.

      Yes you can. But first of all you need to be 25 years of age and on top of that you have to create your own inspira account. Then after that, you proceed by applying to be a UNV through your local UNDP office.

    • @petertah

    Could you share your cover letter or maybe make a video showing your profle?
    I have created my profile and also i've applied to some UNV Vacancies but i did not get any call.I think i need some help because i have experience in local NGO as a social worker and project coordinator, but i never get shortlisted.

    • @petertah
      @petertah  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for reaching out. The key thing is to create a very good and competitive profile and keep updating it. I may look at doing a follow-up video where I tackle what to include in a profile and how to make it stand out from the millions. You have to also realize that you are competing against millions of young and very qualified people across the world. As a leader in my field, it took me close to 3 years to get my first assignment which I turned down for personal reasons. And then the second one came and I can tell you that this was after I went and acquired more skills and experience. So, keep developing yourself and updating your profile.
