Thank you so much for watching Cassandra!😊 I just try to be the best Husband I can be (she certainly deserves it❤️) and part of that is always being patient, encouraging, and helping! This really is one of the best we have done! We hope to go back soon and do it again! It was so much fun!
Aw thank you so much!! We really appreciate you watching our video and leaving a kind comment!😊 We are very blessed and very thankful to have each other!❤️
I have done these trails numerous times as I live only a couple hours away and also have a camper as a summer home only a few miles away from Grandfather. Of the many videos I have watched of this, you guys were the best! Nicely done and condensed to less than 15 minutes. The “most technical“ part that you referred to is called the “chute” and the part where the short ladders go into in the Calloway gap is actually called the subway. Thanks so much for sharing, you guys really seem to “get it“ and obviously love each other! All the best to you!
Thank you so much Steve! This means a lot to us! We really do love each other and love to adventure together! Hopefully we can make it back out there soon!😁
Thank you so much Jonathan! So glad you enjoyed it! You are truly going to love it and it looks like the weather will be great!😁 You will have to let us know what you think. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you! I'm going to go hike this mountain for the 1st time this weekend with my wife! I'm also looking forward to walking the bridge! I'm originally from Texas, and now that I live in NC, I'm adventuring this state.
@2:08 Indeed... IT is the best water ever! I drank from that spring 30 years ago and it IS the best water I have ever drank. I have traveled to Steam Boat Lake, CO, Big Bear CA, the Highlands if Scotland, the countryside of South Korea and the Andes mountains of Chile, believe me when I say this spring that I first drank from when I was 13 is the best water I have ever tasted!
I love that you shared this!! I fully agree!! So cool to hear that someone else thought the same! Thanks for watching!😊 We are hoping to go back again soon and hike it again!
Awesome, last weekend I took my 2 oldest (14 and 12) to hike the Grandfather trail from the swinging bridge to Calloway gap. It was there first time and I habent been there is 15 years. We want to return this fall to do the profile trail and an overnight up top somewhere. Looking forward to drinking from that spring once again.
Just moved to NC. We love hiking. You made the best comment ever. Hiking IS the best couples activity. We had a dangerous hike in NH, thunderstorms, rain, and steep faces. You got new subscribers here!!!!
That straight up is the best water ever. I remember my first time hiking back to the trailhead and stopping to take a break there for water and a granola bar-pure bliss!
If you do it in winter make sure you not only brings warm clothes but a lot of changes and waterproof clothes/gear if you plan on camping because from my experience in the fall, it tends to be very moist and cold, but you will have a lot of fun if you prepare around that.
Hey Colton! So glad you enjoyed it!! It is one of our favorites! Thanks for watching and commenting!😊 We hope you will subscribe and check out some of our other videos!
That decent through those rocks almost reminded me of going to down the Abol trail in Baxter State Park in Maine! Except Katahdin doesn't have ladders. Once you start reaching the tree line it's a technical climb all the way to the top. It's not easy going down. I though t going down was pretty tough and I tore up my boots real good, too.
I hiked up this mountain with my Boy Scout troop and camped near the peak. It had the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen and was the most physically challenging hike I’ve been on in a while, but it was extremely fun. If you every plan on coming here note that the temperature gets very cold in the fall and early spring near the top due to the wind, it’s wet alot due to mist and fog in the air, and the ground is very steep. Pack accordingly to that and you will have alot of fun.
Great video guys! The views are breathtaking! Hayden, as your mother, I prefer you not jump over any chasm. My heart skipped a beat when I saw that, you could have died! Love you both!
Hiked this a few weeks ago with a pal in -20 windchill with 75mph winds, had to turn back from McCrae at that rocky area due to incredible ice and wind making going forwards unwise. We did make it then to Calloway!
Before I even watched I knew you were talking about Grandfather Trail off of Profile..😂..my buddy and I usually start our run off Danial Boone Scout Trail by the old plane crash on to Callaway to McRae and then on to the swinging bridge and then back..if you had gone just a mile or so more you would have ended up at the top of Grandfather mountain where the swinging bridge is at and the gift shop (bonus is free entry to the mountain if you hike in that way)! Good job you two! And I LOVE THE Journey More hat!!!
I figured some people would know before watching!😂 We actually went to the swinging bridge the day before with Nikki's family and found out the next day we could have done that! Haha oh well! We definitely want to go back so we will have to start at the Danial Boone Scout Trail. That sounds awesome! You'll have to get yourself a hat next time we do a merchandise order!😉 Thank you for the support and encouragement Shawn! We really appreciate it!
Yeah free entry to a privately owned park from the Profile or Daniel Boone trail! But get caught on the bridge side you can get fined for trespassing on private property!
@@JourneyMore We actually kept going to Ravens Rock. We tried to keep pushing to the bridge but it was a lot for us and we were varying levels of hiking experience. Were also the kind of group that stays together.
Awesome footage and B-roll. You folks need to do the Black Mountains Hiking Challenge. I just completed it and am 13th in the world to do so. Awesome challenge that takes you on 60+ miles of trails around Mount Mitchell.
Thank you so much Jonathan! Nikki and I really appreciate your compliment!😊 That sounds incredible! We are definitely going to have to try it. Do you have to complete it in a certain amount of time?
You ought to go to looking glass mountain at Pisgah national Forest. The hike is straight up so it's challenging in that right but it's nowhere near what y'all just did on this hike. But the view is absolutely incredible
Hahahaha we actually hike a lot, including a 14er in Colorado. We made this video a while ago but we also didn’t pack a lunch because we thought we would finish sooner so we definitely didn’t have the fuel we needed!🤣
Hey! We started at the profile trail head. It isn’t actually in the Grandfather Mountain State Park (so you don’t have to pay that entry fee to get to the bridge if you want to go all the way😉). If you just type that into your GPS it should come up. It is an awesome challenge and such a fun trail!!
Nice job! Love this hike - but I especially love how you two took on the challenge. Must have been tough in the rain. We will have to check out the Boone Cocoon. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. We are subscribing!
Next time go to the bridge and you will get to take the 3 ladders on the side of the mountain. Only adds a mile or 2 and another 1k of elevation. I've gone to the bridge from both free trail accesses, it's about 13-15 miles and 4k elevation
That’s actually and easy one if you’re active and love the outdoors. For a true challenge try hitting Cumberland Knob on a bmx bicycle. I did it as a young teen… @ 14 I think. If you don’t have the skill to balance sometimes on just one wheel/tire then I’d suggest walking it.
Great question! This is a fantastic resource for any hike and especially this one!! www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/day-hiking-checklist.html The best advice for this hike is to start early, pack a lunch, plenty of snacks and water, and take it slow. This looks so awesome! We aren’t into super technical hikes but this looks like fun! But I’m curious, how long did it take you and how much food did you pack?
Even if you aren't into technical hikes, I think if you guys did this one you would love it! It was so gorgeous and fun! That is a great question. We actually did not pack enough food😬 We thought we would finish far earlier than we did so we each had a dense protein bar and a large bag of trail mix. We should have packed a full meal on top of it but we thought we'd be back by lunch time or a little after. We started at 8am and finished a little before 5pm. Now with all the filming and photos there was probably about 2 hours of that and the storm really slowed us because of waiting it out as well as having to go slow because of everything being slick. If it was not raining, we weren't filming and had plenty of food I think we could have done it (while enjoying it) in 5-6 hours. But it is a tough one for sure! Thank you for watching and asking!😁
@@JourneyMore Your video makes me wanna visit here, especially in the fall to see the colorful trees from the two viewpoints! And food is always tough to pack in my opinion, that’s why I asked! We usually have too much or not enough. And you’re definitely right that filming and weather adds a lot of extra time! But thanks for sharing your hiking adventures 🤩
Wow that looks like a really awesome hike… don’t think we can’t to take our 5 kiddos with us on that one tho 😅 Grandfather mountain has some breathtaking views that’s for sure.
It was definitely our favorite so far!😊 It would definitely not be safe for young ones! Unfortunately the video just didn't do the views justice, they were amazing! Thank you for watching and commenting!!
There are parts of this hike I did between 7&11 years old. It's really fun and kid friendly at certain parts. They even have summer camps for kids sometimes that do this hike. Depending on their ages, don't rule it out for your kids entirely!
You definitely should take a trip! It is one of the most beautiful and well kept state parks we have ever been to! You do have to pay to get into the main entrance of the park to go see the swinging bridge, animals, etc. We met hikers along the way who did a trail into the park and had someone waiting there to drive them back home. Lots of options!😁
I think you'll always remember this hike! 👍😮❤👍
